For more than four centuries, the Duboeuf family has been producing wine. And Georges Duboeuf is a name that needs no introduction, as he is famous for turning Beaujolais Nouveau into an international phenomenon. He cared a great deal about Beaujolais, and his dedication still resonates today – elevating both the Beaujolais region and Gamay grape to near-cult status.
2020 Château de Nervers Gamay, Brouilly, France

The words charm, balance and elegance are perfectly suited to this wine. In its red and purple robe, this Brouilly displays delicate fruity aromas, especially of cherry and kirsch. It presents an unctuous mouthfeel with suave and silky tannins and a persistent and silky finish. This is a balanced wine with excellent aging potential.
A former hunting lodge, the Château de Nervers has been a family-run wine growing estate for almost 200 years. Six generations of de Chabannes have followed on from one another up to the current managers, Jean-Benoît and Tiphaine.
The vines are 50 years old on average. They grow on rocks and clay, producing well-structured and spicy wines. The yield per hectare is quite low and the acidity is not very high, allowing for the production of full-bodied yet well-rounded wines.

2019 Domaine de Javernière Gamay, Morgon, France
92 Points, James Suckling
Deep garnet color. A nice expression of the terroir with aromas of black fruits and black cherry matched with spices and a touch of pepper. Charming, voluminous and powerful on the palate with fine and coated tannins showcase the beautiful maturity of the grapes.
Morgon is the name of a hamlet which, due to its reputation for wine, has been attached to that of the village of Villié. Morgon comes from a special terroir made up of decomposed rock and friable schist, and is without doubt the most typical of the ten Beaujolais “crus”: certainly the easiest to identify on tasting. Its “terroir” taste becomes more intense over time : we therefore say that it ‘morgons’, an enigmatic word that has been unanimously adopted by its supporters.

Trader, breeder and producer recognized worldwide, sometimes nicknamed the “Pope” or the “King” of Beaujolais, Georges Duboeuf (1933 – 2020) comes from a long line of winegrowers. Established since 1964 in Romanèche-Thorins in the heart of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. Its heirs are intended to work in the line of its founder. Perpetuating this heritage means striving to reveal the talent of winegrowers and sublimating the great terroirs of your region.
Les Vins Georges Duboeuf is a house renowned for its Beaujolais Nouveaux and its great associated celebrations. It also offers all the Beaujolais and Mâconnais A.O.C.s through a range of wines appreciated by the specialized press. Today, the House is supplied by more than 300 winemakers. A true ambassador for the region, it exports 75% of its production to nearly 120 countries. The labels of his wines are easily recognized by their floral ornament. Since 1993, the Hameau Duboeuf, a veritable vine and wine museum, has been welcoming you for an initiatory day in Beaujolais country.

I don’t usually drink Beaujolais, but my spouse urged me to try this one, as once I decanted it, the aroma was quite heady and rich and full of almost port-like bouquet (and other fancy words). Yum!
At first sip, very bold and tangy on the palette. Grapy goodness and my spouse stated lovely stone-fruity vibes. We didn’t have any strong cheeses to go with it today, but we had some good heritage Bramley Apples and Almond spice cookies, both of which really brought that lovely jammy mouthfeel, even though it is a dry one. Sweet Chili Heat crackers also paired nicely to bring out more delicious smells.
Opened up nicely but retains a good bite. I bet this would be amazing with a good wintery stew with lots of root vegetables and mushrooms (Mmm Ropa Vieja!), or sat by the fireplace with good company, or a good book.
I feel like this one deserves a good spot in the cellar, because at 6, nearly 7 years it is doing just fine and aging handsomely.
Hey all, I was the lucky recipient of a bottle of the Brouilly to taste.
I’m always on the hunt for lighter reds, especially ones that drink well chilled, so I was excited to give this one a try.
I popped the cork and poured a glass, and tossed the bottle in the fridge so I could try it cold later.
First I’ll say I was surprised how dark the wine poured, a very deep purple. It has a subtle nose of black cherry and maybe a little pepper, definitely smells fruity.
My tasting notes are brambly dark fruit, cherries, blackberries… it’s definitely a fruit forward wine. It felt fairly round and actually had nice mouth coating tannins. Overall a nice but simple wine.
Chilled brought out more red fruits, almost like a strawberry jam followed by some white pepper. I was reminded of taking a bite out of a ripe plum a little bit. The tannins faded but there was still enough going on to keep me coming back. Sometimes a chilled red becomes a little boring.
Overall this wine is a good representation of this region… Pretty fruity, lower acid red that would be a solid pairing choice for Thanksgiving. It won’t be the center of conversation but you’ll keep refilling your glass.
