About The Winery
Winery: Twisted Oak Winery
Owners: Jeff and Mary Stai
Founded: 2004
Location: Murphys, CA
We’re often asked what the background of Twisted Oak is, to which we invariably reply, “The Sierra Nevada, of course!” If we are pressed further, we are forced to admit that Twisted Oak Winery is the culmination of a delusion, er, vision by Jeff and Mary Stai. The vision was of a terroir-based winery making superior, hand-crafted, yummy wines, and then having more Twisted fun than anyone in the industry selling them.
Jeff and Mary found 120 acres just outside Murphys in the Sierra Foothills at nearly 2000 feet elevation. It is there that they planted 10 acres of vineyards in Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano, and Touriga Naçional to take advantage of the continental Mediterranean soil types and climate. It is on top of this property, with an amazing view of the Sierra, where the state-of-the-art, no-pump-over, four-level gravity flow winery was built. When completed in 2004, it included open-tank, stainless steel fermenters along with our own 300-foot barrel cave. This was all under the watchful eye of a 350-year-old California Blue Oak tree that not only is our namesake but also adorns every Twisted Oak bottle.

The fact that I am even considering this proves that I am insane, as I keep trusting that Casemates will send me Twisted Oak (TO) and they never send me any. In the first cleanout, TO was specifically to be included - and there was no TO in my case. In the second cleanout, where TO was teased as possibly being included - and many people reported getting one or more bottles - there was no TO in my case. Now, a case is “guaranteed” to include 8 bottles of TO?! I have to assume that doesn’t apply to me. Fool me once - shame on you, fool me twice - shame on me, fool me thrice - I should be institutionalized. Why am I considering this? Arrrggghhhh.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?
(Note: tax and shipping are not included in savings calculations.)
Mostly Twisted Oak Mystery Offer - $35 = 15.55
Nope, no more mystery cases for me, Two Jake’s going out of business mystery cases were enough mystery for me, bought two cases, got over 19 bottles of Cab Fran which I wasn’t fond of.
@user33071884@winecaseaholic@WkdPanda I love Cab Franc, unfortunately Two Jake’s was hard to swallow. I ended up throwing mine away. Too much good wine to waste on drinking wine you don’t like.
@danandlisa@winecaseaholic@WkdPanda That makes sense. I’ve got a few Twisted Oak bottles in the cellar that I still haven’t opened yet, and odds are good that most of what’s left is from their highest-volume varietals. Feels like the draw is more about them being gone than the wine itself being great. There are plenty of solid options in this price range on Casemates — and they did close down and go bankrupt because they weren’t selling enough wine while they were open. That being said, I’m a sucker for wine deals and I’m intentionally talking myself out of just grabbing a case from sheer Curiosity, lol.
Couldn’t ship to my state before they closed. I loved the Tempranillo trio from last year, once we were able to get it.
Once again- don’t need this, but I’ll take a chance on a case, before they’re all gone, and hope that I like it as much.
And I’ll be happy for WD to send me the “or more Twisted Oak The Spaniard”!
@scott0210 I split a case with another person. So far I’ve gone through 4 of my 6 bottles and all were excellent. They take a while to open up in the glass.
@fibrs86@Winedavid59 Pig Stai was great and I kept the bottle because it explained the level of disorganization of my kitchen, or house in general.
I will re-use the bottle for something.
Casemates got me again! Money a bit tight but I didn’t realize Twisted Oak is no more. I think I only got one twisted oak order previously but it was all very enjoyable!
/giphy gigantic-heavy-passenger
Even though I know I shouldn’t have, I couldn’t help myself. Maybe WD finds a Corison hiding in a corner that will find it’s way into my case.
@HitAnyKey42@Winedavid49
Hope you’re hanging in there and doing okay, my friend.
I shouldn’t have either but we can never have enough TO either.
Hope WD find something good and interesting to put in my case.
@Winedavid49 if I go in for four, would you be able to select and send me the Twisted Oak *%#&@! Red Blend (just 'cause I love the name) and three reds that should be sweet please?
@SylvreKat
Although a couple of the wines are typical Port varietals, I don’t believe any of them are sweet. Also, while WD is hand selecting the mystery reds, I seriously doubt that he is doing any packing!

in for a case! hell yeah!
Is this really the end? And there’s enough for a two-day offer??
I’ve only ever had the Twisted Oak Torcido Garnacha and it was amazing. Truly a complex palate. How are the other TO wines?

@trapuh But with this offer you’d get your money back if no Twisted Oak showed up!
@trapuh They’re coming to take me away,
Haha, they’re coming to take me away,
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,
To the funny farm
Also, what sort of other reds might be in the cases?
@klezman
“As Seen on UC” wines, I would suppose.
@chipgreen yeah, I suspect that much. But was looking for guidance beyond that part.
@chipgreen @klezman

Aren’t they listed up there?
@chipgreen @karenhynes no, only the twisted oak ones are. I’m asking about the others.
@klezman cheers!
@chipgreen @klezman mostly casemates oriented.

I want WD to sign the extra 4 so I know it was him
@CruelMelody @winedavid59 @eljefetwisted
Can we get the Spaniards signed as well?
/giphy creative-gentle-wizard

In for two cases, because I fear this may truly be the end, my friends.
@Foobarski

yea! in for a case!

I’ve had a couple of these and enjoyed them. I really don’t need more, but I’m a sucker for a mystery.
/giphy tender-preferable-pilsner

El Jefe = Must Buy. So sad he’s leaving.
Seems so popular here, any brief story about why they closed up?
@forlich Retirement. Quite a lot of chat about it in the most recent TO offers.
/giphy strange-turbulent-kitten

just had the Twisted Oak 2017 Syrah last night. Might have to order this mystery-ish case just to get other Twisted Oaks.

@winecaseaholic Hmm, if you don’t want the Cab Franc, maybe something can be arranged.
@winecaseaholic @WkdPanda Right! I love Cab Franc.

@WkdPanda let me know if you ever (within next year) are traveling thru western AR on I-40.
Or pm me your state

If the ratio on the 4 pack is 3:1 twisted oak, shouldn’t the case be 9 bottles of TO to 3 bottles of warehouse?

@forlich I think the guaranteed bottle of Spaniard is the draw for TO lovers to purchase the case
Anybody else try The Spaniard from the February offer? I had one… seemed off. I always loved that wine. Need to try another, maybe a bad bottle
@scott0210 I split a case with another person. So far I’ve gone through 4 of my 6 bottles and all were excellent. They take a while to open up in the glass.
Y’all got any more Pig Stai?
@fibrs86 nope

I have like 3 cases coming in next week from Summer Hold or I would be all in on this. TO is great juice.
@GatorFL i only have 2 cases being delivered tomorrow so does that mean i should order this ?
Told myself I would not pass up TO any time it shows itself even though I have no room

yeah dude. yeah.
Sad to see the end of TO, but excited for the wines! In for 2 cases!
/giphy astute-quicker-olive

@knlprez Also, this random person kinda looks like my grandfather…
I waited 24 hours, hoping for a sellout. I shouldn’t buy this financially. Alas, here I am ordering a case. Well played.
Edit. Too bad I didn’t have any coupons.
/giphy anxious-bejeweled-business

Well, this’ll be my last chance to try some twisted oak, in for a case.
/giphy conventional-giddy-tomato

2 cases of mostly TO im in!!
Hell yea, in for one. Just in time for Halloween.
/giphy sleek-mindful-ass

OK WD, you got me… some known, some unknown… I couldn’t resist the temptation. Also, SWMBO is on a cruise…so ship quick!
Well you got me here. I have a 4 pack untouched downstairs but always nice to add more. Thanks WD

@chipgreen Yeah, I sort of figured that. But doesn’t hurt to at least ask, otherwise the answer is no for sure.
