Fig on the nose, with soft tobacco. Take a sip and you’ll taste luxury in a glass. Silky smooth. The Mourvèdre – well, it’s badass. Heavy, imparting the meatiness of this wine that will coat your whole mouth and excite every taste bud. This one is perfect for an evening hanging out in lounge chairs with friends and a charcuterie board. You’ll finish the bottle before you know it and reach for more.
The Vineyard
Farmed by the Dusi Family, our Paper Street Vineyard straddles Willow Creek and Adelaida AVAs in the hills of Paso Robles. Its virgin soils, steep slopes, and rugged terrain make for intensely bold and saturated wines.
Female-owned and operated, J Dusi Wines is guided by its head winemaker and owner Janell Dusi. Janell was born and raised on the Dusi Vineyard where her grandfather Dante taught her the old-world Italian style of winemaking. The Dusi family’s heritage and history in Paso Robles Wine Country dates back to the early 1920s, where grape growing has been a craft that has deep roots in the Dusi family. The sustainable farming practices that were implemented by Janell’s great-grandparents ninety years ago are still the standard that we follow today. The unique, hand-crafted quality of J Dusi Wines results from Janell’s intimate involvement in every step of the process: working in the vineyard, driving the tractor, hand picking her own fruit, crushing the grapes, and fermenting the juice from the bins to the barrels to the bottle. One thing Janell knows for sure; winemaking is part science, part art, and 100% passion.
Janell takes great pride in blending tradition with progress. The Dusi family has partnered together to purchase other vineyards with different grape varietals including Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Clairiette Blanche. Along with the Classic Zinfandel, Carignane, and Petite Sirah with an adventurous spirit, Janell is able to produce more hand-crafted wines to highlight her “spice rack” in the cellar. Janell Dusi is a farmer and she is a winemaker. She continues a legacy and also the dream: A family tradition with a new perspective.

2018 Paper Street The Narrator Red Blend by J. Dusi - $150 = 33.32%
Happy Friday Casematers! To my surprise yesterday (because I hadn’t looked at my emails) a lab rat btl arrived! Looked at my emails then but not before I tore into the package. Thank you Alice & Casemates! Immediate joy and smile to my face then I opened it and knew I definitely got the golden ticket on this one. I definitely wasn’t expecting this due to a couple weeks ago I did see a email from Alice asking if I would be around that weekend to be a lab rat & I responded joyfully but alas no further email or btl arrived then but casemater never fear Alice way more made up for it on this package. So, in my package was a btl of 2018 Paper Street The Narrator. I only know the name because I love J. Dusi wines but haven’t had any of the Paper Street wines.
So let me just start off with if you like a nice smooth blend this is the wine for you (and for me)
Since the wine arrived late afternoon yesterday here in southwest Fl where heat index was 112 degrees I did put it in the fridge briefly to cool off since the bottle was hot to touch and one of those nice heavy wine bottles. Initial pnp strong alcohol on the nose, deep purple color. Let it breathe in the glass for 30 mins and starting to smell dark fruit. First taste didn’t disappoint nice smooth, bold fullbodied wine tasting blackberry, cherry, plum and a hint of spice I think. It was mouth watering especially the longer it was opened. Also had a light sweet jamminess mid taste and finish was smooth, well balanced and complex. Each taste as it opened up just kept getting better and better. So enjoyable
Sorry guys our hands kept reaching for our glasses then the btl and there is no day 2 notes from this rat but I don’t think it will last a day 2 at many tables. It was great by itself and a easy wine to pair with food.
I would highly recommend this wine as I have already secured my case. Thank you J. Dusi, Alice and casemates again for the opportunity to taste this wine. Hope to see more J. Dusi offerings
@wino121 Having been a lab rat on this and split the bottle last night I was suprised felt fine this morning because I was also concerned by the 15.2% ABV
Hello Casemateys!! I get to share this rattage with you all. This past Thursday, I received the mail and found a single vertical box. A bottle of Narrator was inside, warm to the touch, and went straight into the fridge for cooling prior to initial tasting.
On to the wine review.
The J Dusi Narrator was consumed around 70F after an hour of cooling. I was super excited about the Grenache/Mourvèdre/Syrah blend in here and had to jump in as soon as possible!
Pop and pour:
My wife and I were the tasting committee. Poured a small glass for each and decanted the rest. Initial impressions: creme de cassis on the nose, heavy legs. Palate was spice, alcohol, figs and raisins at the finish. Full bodied, we decided to allow the wine to breathe a bit more and serve dinner.
Dinner had already been planned. Seared steelhead trout with roasted cauliflower. Admittedly, this wasn’t the best pairing, doing well with the cauliflower but not with the fish. The wine opened up more, full bodied, with acidity, spice, tobacco, jam and fig. This wine in our opinion would pair with hearty dishes such as pasta, pork/ pork belly, or ribeye. or can be enjoyed on its own. My wife really enjoyed the spice and jam balancing each other out. This wine with some fat to cut through would have been outstanding but my pairing was not flexible.
Definitely a nice wine for those that enjoy GSM blends with nice acidity, spice, and fruit, from a quality wine maker.
Thank you Alice and WCC/Casemates for the opportunity!!

Do like a unique blend. And J. Dusi usually does not disappoint. Hoping for some rats….
If anyone in the Bay Area would like to do a split, I could go for four (maybe six) of these. J Dusi is good stuff, but don’t have room for a case.
@davidj94112 me!
@davidj94112 @sdfreedive I’d take 4. I’m in SF.
Two good reviews on CellarTracker, and community average value of $63.66 there. Also hoping for rats here…
If anyone in the NOVA area (we’re in Alexandria) is interested in splitting a case, we’ve got room for 6. Let me know!
@dkrupps I am interested, live in Burke Centre
@dianefreda @dkrupps Any interest in splitting 3 ways? I’d be happy with 3 or 4 (or even 2).
Any takers for an ATL split?
Any Raleigh Durham splits

The wine looks interesting, the high ABV does not.
That hurts the next day!

First time buyer of the Dusi! Seems to be a well regarded producer so happy to try it.
Anyone else loving this wine?
