2019 Pedroncelli Sauvignon Blanc, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County
Tasting Notes
Pale yellow, brightly aromatic, and very varietally correct-true to the Sauvignon Blanc grape. The clean and fresh flavors are layered with pear, Meyer lemon, and tropical fruits. Our Sauvignon Blanc is crisp with notes of citrus, green apple, grass, and a touch of minerality. The finish is quite refreshing. Please enjoy upon release or within a year or two as no aging is required.
Vineyard Sources
Dry Creek Valley has a great pedigree for growing and developing great fruit characteristics as well as bright acidity in Sauvignon Blanc. We sourced two vineyards for this vintage: our estate vineyards as well as Kay Wood’s. Each vineyard’s microclimate combines sun, soil, and fog to retain ripe fruit and crisp flavor. Add these components to the special care and attention from the vineyard crew and the resulting wine is a wonderful reflection of terroir—wherein the sum is greater than the parts.
Vintage & Winemaking Notes
Quite a bit of rain in the winter and early spring slowed the growing season and the maturation of the vineyard. It set a nice pace for the vintage. Grapes were harvested one week later than normal. Perfect weather conditions during harvest season with even-handed warm days and cool nights developed more aromatics and flavors than in previous vintages.
Once the grapes are destemmed and pressed the juice goes to a stainless steel fermenting tanks to cold soak for 24/48 hours. Inoculated with selected yeast and slow fermentation at about 58 Fahrenheit in stainless steel tanks completes the process. Keeping the temperature-controlled during fermentation maintains varietal flavors. The wine is bottled a few months after harvest without oak aging or malo-lactic fermentation. The style of this Sauvignon Blanc captures freshness and showcases the luscious Dry Creek Valley fruit.

The year was 1927. President Calvin Coolidge captured the imagination of nobody. Babe Ruth hit home run after home run powered by little more than whiskey and sausage. And John Pedroncelli, Sr. bought a vineyard and winery in Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County. Since then, four generations of Pedroncellis have weathered Prohibition, wine booms and busts, and changing tastes. And they’re still a family-owned operation making acclaimed premium wines. Wherever you are now, Sultan of Swat and Silent Cal, this next glass is for you.

@Superllama7@Winedavid49 Pedroncelli is a good deal regardless of today’s environment or casemates’ price.
I have noticed that for a good year(s) the case discount was likely 50% + of MSRP.
I haven’t seen many that get to the half-off if you get a case anymore. A few dollars a bottle here and there add up.
I guess my (perhaps the community?) question is how much of this less-than-we-are-used-to discount will continue.
If a winery can sell a bottle for retail (see: Corison) we don’t see them on casemates. Sometimes, they could sell it for retail over a time, but business being business, they need cash flow and to reduce inventory.
It makes me wonder how much the MSRPs were always inflated and they are still keeping it what they are, despite “today’s environment” and making the discount sites seem less of a discount, or why they don’t up their SRP and we are back to the 50% with a case.
All a bunch of psychology and business decisions, but I have noticed casemates taking a bigger chunk of the price from the past.
Pedroncelli East Side Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2019
We received this bottle on Saturday afternoon and put it in the wine fridge to relax. We opened it on Sunday for a light chicken and mixed greens dinner. The color is a beautiful pale yellow and I smelled the citrus right away. It is very clean tasting and was wonderful with the chicken. We also felt it would be nice to enjoy on the patio with a cheese plate. We love the Dry Creek Valley and this wine didn’t disappoint. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a nice white.

Other notes/rats/reviews on the previous offer here last March:
Was excited when I got the email that a wine was being sent my way. Received the bottle Friday night and put in the wine fridge so it would be ready to try on Saturday. I have had Pedroncelli red wines in the past so I am familiar with the winery but had never tried one of their whites.
I am primarily a red wine drinker but my wife likes to drink Sauvignon Blanc, so I enlisted her help on this one. Upon opening we noticed strong notes of citrus on the nose. The citrus notes came through on the first sip but they didn’t really linger for more than a few seconds. The wine was very smooth and I would classify this as an easy drinker and a crowd pleaser. It wasn’t overly complex and was on the dry side, maybe that is why this white was a little easier for me to enjoy.
The second day we paired this with a light shrimp and pasta dish and it worked perfectly. The lemon notes of the wine worked with the garlic, lemon and white wine sauce of the pasta dish.
Knowing what I know about Pedroncelli’s typical price range I thought this would sell closer to $10/bottle for the case offering. My wife approved and said she would drink this again.
I have unsuccessfully been lobbying for MONTHS that the next Ped offer be a mixed case of Friends white and rose…it looks like I continue to be unsuccessful. That said I’m in for a case as this is good juice, just wish my request would be granted
It would be only a slight exaggeration to say my prayers were answered with this offer. Been waiting to get some SB. Love Pedroncelli winery, the family, and their wines in no particular order. Thanks - In for two cases.
$13.75/bottle at the case price? While I have purchased nearly every Pedroncelli offer in the past few years, this price puts it into competition with similarly priced wines from France (not Sancerre) and Australia that I can buy right now at the local wine store. Can anyone make comparisons to foreign offerings at similar price points? Thanks.
Just arrived today. Opened a bottle to try it out. Very pleased and more importantly, Mrs. Woop - who was disdainful at seeing two cases of wine get delivered, changed her tune when she tasted this.
@pmacostello The 2021 vintage is available on their site, if you don’t mind spending more. And mention you’re a Casemates customer, they’ll make you a club member for pricing purposes.

Normally I autobuy a case when I see Pedroncelli, but this isn’t as much of a discount as other offerings. Maybe someone wants to talk me into it…

That is a steep price increase from the same wine + Chardonnay offering last March. Unless that Chardonnay was only valued at $3.75 per bottle.

@sosptuba that’s a great blast from the past. I’d a been all over that.
@sosptuba +1 on this one. I LOVE the Friends blends.
@sosptuba Agreed. That case was incredible and I remember buying 2. Appreciate your efforts!

…and it’s actually Sauvignon Blanc this time!
@chipgreen yes indeed. The “mistake” is still quite drinkable …
