Let us do the picking. Each 6-pack and case in this offer is filled at random from ten distinct Sojourn Cellars Chardonnays, with few or no repeats. Vintages span 2020 through 2023, with suggested retail prices from $40 to $75 per bottle. Fewer than a third of the wines sit at the $40 entry price, so most of your selection falls in the mid-to-upper part of the range. It’s an easy way to explore the full lineup, compare vintages side by side, and discover new favorites.
Our 2020 Durell Vineyard grapes were harvested on two separate nights in late August and fermented separately in a combination of new and used French oak barrels. Yields were tiny. The lower block offered minerality and focus, with nice acidity while the hill block added expressive fruit flavors and full body. The resulting wine has robust flavors, rich texture on the palate with fresh acidity on the finish.
Winemaking Notes
Pressed whole-cluster • Fermented in French oak barrels • 85% malolactic fermentation • Native yeast
• 40% new French oak • Bottled unfined • Bottled September 2021
In 2020, the Gap’s Crown Chardonnay grapes were picked in mid-September at optimal maturity. The blocks were harvested at night and gently whole-cluster pressed first thing in the morning. The juice was fermented in French oak barrels at low temperature to maintain delicate aromatics. The resulting wine offers focus and tension on the palate.
Winemaking Notes
Pressed whole-cluster • Fermented in French oak barrels • 85% malolactic fermentation • Native yeast
• 30% new French oak • Bottled unfined • Bottled August 2021
Yields were low in 2020, with small, loose clusters. This unique terroir transcended our hands-off winemaking approach, resulting in a rich, distinctive wine.
Winemaking Notes
Pressed whole cluster • Fermented in French oak barrels • 70% malolactic fermentation • Native yeast
• 50% new French oak • Bottled unfined • Bottled September 2021
Press fractions were managed carefully and the resulting wines impressed us, offering expressive fruit aromas and refreshing acidity with layers of rich texture. The individual Sangiacomo vineyard components were harvested at night and fermented separately in 30% new French oak barrels.
Winemaking Notes
Pressed whole-cluster • Fermented in French oak barrels • 70% malolactic fermentation • Native yeast
• 30% new French oak • Bottled unfined in September 2021
Yields were lower than average in 2021, with small berries and loose clusters creating wines of increased depth and concentration. In 2021, the Hill block really shined and brought depth and rich layers of stone fruit to the blend. The resulting wine offers intense flavors and rich texture on the palate with fresh acidity on the finish.
Winemaking Notes
Pressed whole-cluster • Fermented in French oak barrels • 70% malolactic fermentation • Native yeast
• 40% new French oak • Bottled unfined in August 2022
In 2021, the yields were the lowest we have seen at Gap’s Crown for Chardonnay. The resulting wine seems to benefit, offering intense flavors and a layer of minerality. The grapes were harvested at night, and the juice was fermented in French oak barrels at low temperature.
Winemaking Notes
Pressed whole-cluster • Fermented in French oak barrels • 80% malolactic fermentation • Native yeast
• 25% new French oak • Bottled unfined in August 2022
The resulting wines have concentrated flavors with tension and length. The 2022 yields in Gap’s Crown Vineyard were particularly light, resulting in a concentrated wine. Both blocks were harvested at night, and the juice was fermented separately in French oak barrels at low temperatures.
Winemaking Notes
Pressed whole-cluster • Fermented in French oak barrels • 80% malolactic fermentation • Native yeast
• 25% new French oak • Bottled unfined in August 2023
2022 offered moderate yields in Reuling Vineyard, resulting in a wonderful balance of rich fruit flavors and distinctive savory notes that are characteristic of this unique clone.

All of our Chardonnay vineyards are in cooler locations and retained wonderful fresh acidity due to the early harvest timing of 2022. Each component was fermented separately in French oak barrels with 30% new oak. They were later blended to create a balanced wine with layers of texture and alluring aromatics.

THE VINEYARDS
Durell Vineyard
The Sojourn Durell Vineyard Chardonnay is made from 100% Old Wente clone from two blocks of the famous Durell Vineyard. The Hill block was planted in the 90s and gives very low yields of small clusters with prominent hen and chick berries. These small bunches provide extraordinary flavors, complexity, and texture. The Barn block’s younger vines were planted in 2009 and they are still only producing small amounts of fruit with concentrated, lively, and exotic characteristics.
Gap’s Crown Vineyard
Gap’s Crown Vineyard is situated on Roberts Road just above the Sangiacomo Vineyard. This is a high-end hillside vineyard that has become a gem of the Sonoma Coast. We source Chardonnay grapes from two distinctive blocks within the vineyard. The Clone 95 block was planted in 2004 on 16-16 rootstock and has a beautiful south facing aspect. The Clone 76 block was also planted in 2004 running over a ridgeline with a variety of exposures. Both of these blocks start off in sandy loam with alluvial gravel, transitioning to iron-rich loam with higher proportions of volcanic rocks as they ascend uphill. Clusters are small and dense with hen and chick berries.
Reuling Vineyard
Reuling Vineyard is perched on a small hillside with gentle slopes at an elevation of 250 feet. It benefits from the cool marine influences converging from the coast, yet is exposed to the sun and afternoon heat, allowing the grapes to reach optimal maturity. Its extremely sandy Goldridge soils naturally stress the vines, resulting in low yields and concentrated flavors.
Sangiacomo Vineyard
The core of our Sojourn Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay is from the same vineyard source as the highly-acclaimed Sojourn Sangiacomo Vineyard Pinot noir wines. This wine features a combination of Clone 95 Chardonnay from Sangiacomo Roberts Road Vineyard and Old Wente Clone from Sangiacomo Vella Ranch. The Roberts Road block, planted in 1998, provides minerality and vibrancy. The Old Wente Clone selection is known to produce distinctively small clusters, low yields, and results in elegant, complex wines that round out this blend. These ranches are perfectly suited for growing Chardonnay, with cool climates and well-draining soils.
Sonoma Coast Vineyards
Our Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is a blend of unique lots from several distinct Sonoma Coast vineyard sites. Old Wente Clone from the Sangiacomo Green Acres ranch forms a foundation of bright aromatics and balance. Clone 95 from the Sangiacomo Roberts Road vineyard adds minerality and length. Durell Vineyard Old Wente Clone Chardonnay from the historic Hill block adds a layer of rich fruit character and body. Clone 4 Chardonnay from Ueberroth Vineyard adds zest and focus. Clone 95 from Gap’s Crown Vineyard rounds out the blend with citrus notes, focus and tension.
