2018 marks the 2nd year for our family’s first ever Rosé wine, Rothchild Rosé. The 2018 literally shimmers in its barely-there hue with irrepressible perfume of flower petals and lemons. Intense acidity, bright citrus, and white peaches are anchored on the palate by prominent minerality and a crisp, mouthwatering finish.
Vineyards
Harvest was in mid-August by picking the Grenache vineyard—tall vines set in deep white sandy soil. The clusters are usually just through veraison. A week later the Carignan vineyard planted in 1906 came in with low yields. In the tank the aromatics and flavors moved through iterations of guava and golden raspberry into bright cranberry with great acid. Labor Day was when we picked our Syrah.
Harvest Notes
All vineyards were handpicked between August 15 and September 7 at 18-20 degrees Brix. Multiple heat waves throughout the spring and summer resulted in lower yields. Uneven clusters required diligent field sorting to make sure the best fruit made it to the winery. It was even more important this year to call our picks at the right moment, balancing ripeness and acidity.
Winemaking
Whole clusters were pressed with the juice flowing into separate, cold stainless steel tanks for long, measured fermentations. Blending occurred in early October followed by bottling of 400 cases in late December.
Family-owned and operated for several generations, Tayson Pierce Estate Wines is the collection of award-winning Napa Valley single-vineyard fine wines ranging from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Rosé, to a line of Champagnes produced in France.
Each vintage is exclusively created in reserved quantities to provide the highest quality wines possible, adding to its scarcity. Our belief is that the cultivation of single-vineyard fine wines is the truest expression of earth’s artistic qualities. This philosophy is the reason all of our fine wines and champagnes are critically acclaimed, and our vintages originate from the prestigious Napa Valley region, while the champagnes come exclusively from their Grand Cru & Premier Cru Vineyards in Champagne, France.

2018 Rothschild Rosé (California) by Tayson Pierce, Napa, California
Rose gold color. Shy nose with notes of cantaloupe, white cranberry and white cherry.
Body is very light and full dry up front with hints of white, under-ripe stone fruit. It leans slightly on the acidic side with a little tension across the palate. This quickly relaxes to reveal a slightly, bitter, waxy, citrus zest. Hints of minerality keep the palate moist along with a very gentle tingling spice warmth.
This is a very delicate Rosé. It may come across as a bit abstract to some but the intermediate to advanced palate should find it refreshing. It’s more of a French Provence style Rosé. Light, subtle, crisp, nuanced, refreshing. At 11% ABV you can kick back and enjoy this wine without any palate fatigue. At this price I’m not sure you can beat this wine, especially if you enjoy a good Rosé. So I say go for it!!!

This sounds like a Rose I would really like to get especially at the case price. But the uncertainty of shipping dates (anywhere from 1 week to 6+ weeks in my experience) makes it impossible for me to order now as I’m about to do a seasonal relocation.
Would really love it if we had a “hold shipment until xxx date” or “hold until I tell you to ship,” even if there was some additional fee. Would also be great so people could avoid shipping during high-heat events (which are becoming more common) or hard winter freezes. But I think this has been asked before and as I understand it the WCC business model just doesn’t seem to have a way to actually make this happen, since there are multiple parties involved.
As a last hope, if any Wootleggers in PDX (Oregon) area are up for a split I’d be glad to go for 1/3 or 1/2 case.

@losthighwayz Social media posts (fb, ig, x) all stopped 3+ years ago, suggesting they may no longer be in the business.
