Crafted by Malek Amrani, founder and winemaker of The Vice Napa Valley, this Cabernet Sauvignon reflects his commitment to natural winemaking. Guided by a “less is more” philosophy, Malek allows the wine to express its terroir with minimal intervention, ensuring a pure and authentic representation from vineyard to bottle.
2023 Vintage
Perfect conditions from the growing season start to its finish. Winter will be remembered as the 10th wettest season on record in Napa, with consistent rain that got us out of the extreme drought, and with surprisingly no floods. Spring was poetic, leading to a mild summer with no heatwaves whatsoever. Harvest was a month behind compared to the past few years. The slow ripening helped the grapes reach a potential that we’ll be talking about likely for decades to come.
Vineyards
81% Oakville AVA: Oakville is one of the most influential regions of Napa’s history. It is located in the heart of the Valley with a moderately warm climate that is still marginally influenced by early morning fog. Our single vineyard is located on the hillside of Oakville, west-facing, right off the Silverado Trail.
19% Coombsville AVA: A small 4-acre vineyard with western sun exposure that allows our grapes to ripen to their peak potential. The nearby San Pablo Bay keeps the vineyard at relatively cooler temperatures than most of Napa Valley, with temperatures here rarely exceeding 90°F. Rich mineral volcanic soil with California Certified Organic Farming (CCOF)
Aromas of dark berries, purple flowers, clove spice, and roasted cacao. The palate is rich and velvety, with fine-grained tannins and dense fruit, unveiling layers of black currant, sandalwood, toasted hazelnut, and allspice. Vibrant, full-bodied, and expressive, decanting reveals the full depth and complexity of this young Cab.

About The Winery
Winery: The Vice
Owners: Torie & Malek Amrani
Location: Napa Valley
The Vice was founded with the belief that the best wine is not the one with the highest price tag—it’s the wine that’s the most meticulously crafted.
We proudly craft wine from 15 of Napa’s 16 sub-regions, and are currently the only vintner offering such a diverse portfolio of Napa Valley under one label.
From the vine to the bottle, we use only the best grapes from the very best vineyards. Our wines are crafted with minimal intervention and finished with only the minimal sulfites necessary to ensure stability in transportation and on the shelf.
For our Single Vineyard Wines, each batch is crafted from single grape varietals sourced from hand-selected vineyards that best express the grape varietal and the region that it comes from.
Our mission is to make exceptional Napa Valley wine accessible.

Happy four-day-week Friday! Tonight I’ll be labratting the
2023 Terra Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
We’ve had an unseasonably beautiful few days here in the midwest, and despite the long day in the brown truck under the (not too hot actually) sun, the rat bottle arrived only slightly warm… luckily I had about a 24 hour window to let it rest and slowly cool back down.
At first glance, I actually confused the back label for the front, as it was quite minimalist and I thought I had something a bit underground, but even after attempting to dig up some info on the bottle or winery I didn’t turn up much, except that the winemaker is from South Africa, and a wine called Tara Hill from the same area. Ok, plot thickens.
Noticed the bottle doesn’t sit perfectly flat, like it’s slightly misshapen? Huh, maybe it’s just this one. Pulled the cork, no sign of seepage or protruding. Light pink stain. Seeing as it’s barely 2 years old, went ahead and transferred to my meh-rathon decanter to get some air – nice shady hibiscus color, fairly dark.
In the glass, has a bit of strawberry scent. Unsurprisingly first taste is a bit tight, but gives some bright cherry red fruit, floral oak, maybe a little vanilla. After a few minutes opening up, it starts showing some legs, and some tannins, a hint of pepper. Got a “mm, not bad” from the partner. Maybe just a hair on the lighter body side for a cab, but I like the mouthfeel and finish.
It’s been a long short week so we opted for some take out steak which accompanied nicely, and after some time decanting I think there is some pleasant development. Likely there’s a good potential for aging, but otherwise let it breathe a bit first. As of writing the bottle is about spent, so certainly there’s an ease of drinkability here. If I had picked this up in the $15-20 bottle range I’d be perfectly content (I mean Napa cab, come on). Seeing the offer now looks like a solid case deal!
Curious to see if there are other reviewers. Thanks all for the chance to taste! Cheers!

I’m curious, which winery is this from? I haven’t been able to find any information about Terra Hill online.
I would have thought there’d be a lot more discussion around a Napa cab. Interesting…
