For many years, you have seen Dwyane Wade play the game he loves at the highest levels of achievement. Now, Dwyane is able to share with you something personal and profound. Wade found his world-class wine-making partner in bon vivant Jayson Pahlmeyer. For over 30 years, Pahlmeyer has consistently produced iconic Napa Valley wines of power, finesse, and distinction. Jayson has been a leader in the world of fine wine and shares Wade’s bold and irrepressible spirit. With Jayson’s knowledge and pedigree and Dwyane’s enthusiasm and joie de vivre, a powerful partnership was born.
Deep opaque purple color with a nose of fresh and macerated black fruits with a mineral lift. With time in the glass, the wine develops plum, exotic floral elements, and a distinct savory note blossom as this powerful wine shows off the characteristics of the 2014 vintage in California.
2014 Vintage
The third year of the California drought cycle, which broke in winter of 2016, resulted in an even earlier harvest than 2013 and a surprisingly abundant crop. Still, the 2014 has managed to hang on to a good deal of acidity. Today the 2014 has terrific energy, minerality, and nuance. There will be little drop off in quality from the 2013s, although the 2014s have less flesh and pure concentration. Time has been a benefit, as the 2014s continue to grow.
Winemaking
Jayson Pahlmeyer has been making wines of distinction for over 30 years in Napa Valley. Throughout his career, he has been able to forge deep and lasting relationships with top wine growers. Jayson relies heavily on these relationships when sourcing the fruit and developing the blend for the “Three by Wade.” Jayson is a firm believer that the best fruit grows on hillside vineyards where the vines are forced to struggle for ripeness and in turn, develop complex and powerful flavors. It is these same hillside vineyards, owned by a select handful of Napa Valley insiders, which inform the 2014 Three by Wade blend.
The 2014 Three by Wade was aged in 40% new, super fine-grained, medium-plus, and heavy toasted French oak Bordeaux barrels for eighteen months. The wine was bottled unfined and minimally filtered.
Wade Cellars has separated itself from the crowd as an authentic producer of approachable California wines and a principled advocate for the wine industry. Established as a partnership between Dwyane Wade and the Pahlmeyer family, Wade Cellars strives to make the wine industry more inclusive to people of all backgrounds by consciously growing production and creating opportunities for access and education to all those who choose to indulge in this affordable luxury.
Wade Cellars was born out of Dwyane Wade’s love of the great wines of Napa Valley. Inspired by the opulent Cabernet Sauvignons of this famed American wine-growing region, Dwyane sought the advice and mentorship of his friend Jayson Pahlmeyer to collaborate in the production of Wade Cellars. Since the first vintage in 2012, the production range has expanded to a diverse collection of wines that are inspired by California’s rich winemaking tradition with a healthy dose of DWade style.

When I received the notice of wine coming my way - I thought, perfect to share with some overnight guests! A red blend, even better for me and my guests to partake, one of whom prefers white wine.
Upon PNP the wine presented a lovely color in the glass. It is very jammy on the nose.
First taste was quite alcohol forward. It had a bold fruity taste but was smooth on the palate. The non-red drinker said it had much dark cherry flavor. We all agreed also red fruits were present.
After 30 mins and with dinner:
The wine is still jammy. Not as much alcohol forward are previously. The dark cherry stands out. It was tasteful with food and held up to a shrimp and salmon dinner with salad.
Next day:
Even smoother as the wine has breathed. The red fruits are still very much present.
This case price is a steal. If I wasn’t so overstocked, I would be in for this as it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Thank you as always to the Casemates team for the opportunity to rat!
I got the notification I was getting another bottle to lab rat and as always was excited. I wasn’t excited about the delivery day so I redirected it to a local UPS store for pickup. When I picked it up and examined it I figured this was another celeb collab since I live near Miami and am very familiar with Dwyane Wade. I’ve had good luck with these in the past.
Sadly I suspect this thing was on the truck over the weekend because it was definitely off.
Bottle and label look nice, typical celeb high end looking graphics.
PNP the wine is dark reddish purple. Nice color. In the glass you cannot see through it.
Nose has red fruits, a hint of apple and a bit of vanilla. Perhaps a touch of ripe cranberry? Definitely a bit of alcohol. Nice nose!
As soon as I tasted this one I was not a fan. It was very sweet (almost port-like) and very strong. It did smooth out with time. It turned into a jammy red with some red fruits, a touch of spice, and the heat from the alcohol. The finish was quite long with a hint of spice at the end. But I was not able to finish the bottle.
Given the other Lab Rat’s review I am going to suspect this bottle was cooked over a hot weekend in a UPS truck. Or maybe it is past its prime, it’s a 2014 after all. At the case price maybe it’s worth the risk?
@GatorFL@Kraxberger My high school band used to play in the UF homecoming parade and marched at the Gator Growl. They started the tradition of lighted matches there during their marching performance. They were almost dis-invited us for the 1967 growl because the “committee” wanted to take over the match lighting for the crowning of the homecoming queen, but our director said they could have it if we could participate (which we did).

Pahlmeyer/D.Wade collab? Case price is about the same as 1 bottle of Pahlmeyer’s Proprietary Red Blend. Interesting…

@GatorFL BTW, nothing on the bottle indicating what it is. I figured it was a blend.
@GatorFL
I’ll assume you chill this down a bit, but consuming an entire bottle in an evening, unless you had some help!?
Did you save any for day two?
@rjquillin Yes chilled it before consumption. My wife helped me drink it. Day two it was still jammy, much nicer than day one.
@GatorFL Love to see another Gator fan!
@Kraxberger Wish we had a better FB coach for sure. Go Gators!
@GatorFL Basketball will sure be interesting these next couple of years!

So not only a celeb wine but a second label for Wade… 2018 interview/article in Wine Spectator:
here
Most of those varietals are meant to be consumed fairly young…like 3-6 years old, yet this blend is 11 years old. That’s a bit concerning to me.
@user33071884 Could be why I found it bleh. I will say, the cork was in perfect shape and looked like it had many years left.
