2023 Caton Cabernet Collection by Ty Caton Estate Little Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, Moon Mountain District, Sonoma County
There is nothing “little” about this wine with its complex flavor profile and lingering mouthfeel. Aged in the finest, tightly grained French oak barrels, this wine showcases rich tannins and flavors of dark fruit: black cherry and black currants.
Caton Vineyard Notes
When first developing the land with vineyards, a steep hillside off the side of the road on the way up to the upper bench block was found that would be perfect for planting Cabernet Sauvignon. As much brush as possible from the plot was cleared until it was too steep and rocky to continue, finishing with a 1.35 acre vineyard, which today we call Little Hill. The soils are described as white volcanic ash, shallow and lacking in fertility. This leaves an environment ideal for producing a rich, concentrated world-class wine.
2023 Vintage Notes
The 2023 growing season was marked by a long, cool spring with plenty of rainfall. The wet weather and cool temps delayed bloom dates and pushed back the harvest timeline. A mild summer led to longer hang times and results of larger, healthier grape clusters making this 2023 season a robust and high-quality harvest.
