THAT REMINDS ME OF: Tin toys, like the one on the label. Specifically robot tin toys.

Tin toys have existed since the 1800’s and saw their heyday between 1890 and the 1960’s. Cheap to make, cheap to sell. Prior to World War I, Germany was the largest producer of the toys, but, given World War I happened, other countries like the US started to gain traction as manufacturers. This lasted until World War II, where in its wake arose a new tin toy power: Japan.

Under Allied Forces occupation, Japan resumed industrial production of goods, though they were pressured to explore new avenues. Thus Japan began producing tons of tin toys, and fancy ones too. They could light up, walk, make noises, even shoot sparks. Would love to see toys shoot sparks these days. It also just so happened that Japan had already developed a fascination with robots by that point. And what better subject is there than robots to model your moving metal toys off of? Things were good up until the 70’s when cheap plastics took over, in addition to increasing safety regulations. Nowadays they’re nothing more than a collector item.
