2020 Lost Toy Cellars Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
Tasting Notes
Aromas & flavors of honeydew melon, guava nectar, grapefruit, and honeysuckle. Crisp fresh acidity with a balanced mouthfeel with a great mineral finish.
Vineyard
Volcanic rock deposits influence minerality and the diurnal fog influx provides shade to the vines & keeps fruit from over-ripening.

2020 Lost Toy Cellars Sauvignon Blanc - $65 = 36.10%
Reverse Wine Snob offered this just a few days ago, 7/20
The 2020 Lost Toy Cellars Coombsville Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc opens with pleasing aromas of citrus, a little melon, some honeysuckle and other floral notes along with really intriguing mineral notes. There’s no grassiness but it does have some of those signature tropical fruit Sauvignon Blanc notes. And it gets even more expressive as it has time to breathe.
My first thought on tasting the wine is that is unlike any other Sauvignon Blanc I’ve had before as it has many of the characteristics we’re all used to (like the rich fruit) but it is loaded with mineral notes. This is highly complex. All I can say is to take your time with this one - sip it slowly and let it evolve in your glass and you’ll be greatly rewarded. It ends dry, vibrant and very long on the crisp finish. Excellent! $52.95/4 pack
Speaking of RWS, they have new summer shipping options, both $9.99 per order. Their usual price for ship is $6.99 per order.
Summer Shipping orders will ship in heat protection (styrofoam) 5-10 days after the conclusion of the offer, via UPS 2 day. Summer Hold orders will ship UPS Ground (in cardboard) at a date of our choosing in mid-October once temperatures have cooled down (this is not a “ship-at-will” program)
Thanks for the opportunity to be a lab rat! The nose reads much more like a Chardonnay than a Sauvignon Blanc. Very buttery with a slight acidity. The mouthfeel is very smooth with no sharpness or astringent flavors. Some melon and apple notes. This wine does not have any topical notes or minerality that is typically associated with Sauvignon Blanc but I think it is true to the region and may serve as a bridge between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc drinkers. If you have a crowd that likes whites, this would be a crowd pleaser. Color is light straw.
I also got the opportunity to lab rat this bottle, thanks to Casemates!
In the glass, we noticed aromas of pineapple, melon, and maybe a little apple and tropical fruit notes. The taste follows right along with these notes. The wine is bright and clean tasting, leaning more towards the fruity side rather than herbaceous and green. I agree with Kevo that this is a definite crowd pleaser! I think even some non-wine fans would appreciate it’s refreshing tropical taste. I think this would be a wonderful choice for a summer outdoor event but also should be a good wine to pair with a meal.
OK not bad. Wish wines like this would use the screw cap/stelvin closure. Synth cork was resisting efforts to remove it a bit. It was a “porch temp” about 65. I don’t usually super-cool white wines to refrigerator temps, but this definitely would be better around 48 - 54 or so. But so far seems to be a win, bottles and case in good shape.
@pmarin OK quick update reading previous comments. Do get some “minerality” but not as severe as a Northwest dry Riesling, which can be like licking a wet rock. Which I seek and many people might hate. And in fairness this is a CA SB and not a NW dry Riesling. So far it’s working pretty well as a Northern CA SB.
As a rat review said I do think this could be a Summer “crowd pleaser” if cooled a bit but not at refrig temp, or taken out of refrig an hour or two before in that case. People that expect the cheap sweeter white wines may not “get” it. Maybe with experience they will learn; some never do. As they say “you can pick your friends and you can pick your wines but you can’t pick your friend’s wines”

@marjoryk Maybe some frequent-flyer miles, at least.
@pmarin perhaps it will arrive with some souvenirs
Got it yesterday. Have not tried yet. Standby.
