About Piedra Creek Winery
“Piedra Creek Winery was conceived atop a small knoll in the heart of the MacGregor Vineyard overlooking the beautiful Edna Valley of San Luis Obispo, California. In 1984 Piedra Creek Winery became the smallest bonded winery in the Edna Valley, if not the state of California, originally producing only a couple hundred cases of estate sourced Chardonnay. The ultra-small batch wines quickly gained notoriety. The grapes used would not come from a selected vineyard, nor from blocks within vineyards, but rather from only the best sections of the 55 acre Chardonnay vineyard. The result: only the best fruit would be used to make the finest wines possible.”

TASTING NOTES:
“Layered aromas of Bing cherries and ripe, spiced strawberries are enveloped in silk. The aromas lifting out of the glass are enticing and carry through in the mouth. It’s pure Pinot Noir. This estate wine has a superb balance of fruit, oak, and a sense of place from Edna Valley.” (AbV 13.9%)

The Lernaean Hydra was a serpentine beast with many heads that resided in, obviously, Lerna near old Argos. A swampy region, the hydra itself could release poisonous fumes and had toxic blood that would burn anyone it touched. In addition to having several heads, the popular version of the myth states that its head could regrow when chopped off, multiplying if left unchecked. In most versions, the beast is technically invulnerable so long as it retains on head. When Heracles found this out, he worked with his nephew Iolaus on a solution. They determined that fire could potentially cauterize the neck, stopping immediate regrowth. As Heracles cut off each head, Iolaus used a torch on each stump. The final head was severed, still alive, only to be trapped under a boulder because it wouldn’t die. Heracles would use the blood of the Hydra as poison for his arrows in later tasks.
