THAT REMINDS ME OF: Carbonation, which I had to remind myself is not carbonization.

While carbonation is the addition of carbon dioxide to liquids to make them bubbly, carbonization is converting organic matter into carbon. How do you make something into carbon? Intense heat! Turning wood into charcoal is a process of carbonization. You essentially burn away the rest of the wood at a high temperature, leaving only a carbon residue that burns well itself and with high heat.
