THAT REMINDS ME OF: In Dungeons & Dragons, there are these elves called the drow, or dark elves. They’re called dark elves because they live underground and have grey-purplish skin. For a long time they were subservient to the goddess Lolth, the Spider Queen. Drow, supposed to be faithful to Lolth, would undergo tests of faith at times. Failure of these tests would result in the drow transforming into a drider.

The drider are elves from the waist up and spiders from the waist down, similar to how Lolth appears. Despite their appearance being similar to the goddess, driders existed in shame. They were exiled from general drow society, plagued with feelings of hate and self loathing, and needed to drink blood every four days or else their body would deteriorate.
