Okay, okay, Six Sigma Winery came into being in 2005. Located in Lake County, California, it sits on a 4300-acre working ranch with multiple vineyards that’s been integrated into the environment and protective of the natural wildlife. One of these vineyards is the Christian’s Diamond Mine Vineyard, the source of the Tempranillo in today’s offering. Now, I know what you’re thinking: calling your vineyard a diamond mine is pretty presumptuous. It would be, BUT this vineyard is literally on top of a field of diamonds. Okay, a field of volcanic quartz very similar to diamonds. Close enough.

But, focused on a natural, hands-off winemaking philosophy and producing small, high-quality lots, Six Sigma’s got some gems of their own.

Tasting Notes:
“Earthy notes of Tempranillo dance with aromas of dark chocolate, cherry, plum and spice from Cabernet and Syrah. The wine reveals flavors of juicy dark stone fruit, and minerality and dusty tannins linger on the long finish. The wine is full-bodied and age-worthy. Let it breathe for a couple of hours.”

TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help make conversation over this wine:
Apparently the song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” was first inspired by a nursery school drawing made by Lennon’s son Julian. Of course, people speculated that since the nouns spelled LSD, the song was about LSD. Circumstantial evidence, I say.

DRINK IT FROM/EAT IT WITH:
Red wine glass, though it’s on the heavier side. According to the winery, it’s very food-friendly. Recommended "grilled meats, pastas, BBQ, spicy sauces and soft cheeses.”
