You might know about slingshots, but what about their progenitor, the sling? Two cords with a pocket or cradle in the center, the sling was a cheap but effective weapon in the old days for shepherds to use defending their livestock. David uses one in the story of David and Goliath, being a shepherd himself. While a sling is pretty dangerous on its own, there also existed sling staves or shepherd’s staff slings. These were slings affixed to the end of a long staff that allowed for greater force and heavier projectiles. Even when firearms became a thing, people were using them to lob stuff like old-school grenades.
