A fruit-forward and savory wine that makes a statement from the first sip. Rich dark fruit is focused on the palate leading into a dynamic finish that’s not soon forgotten.
Lodi experiences a Mediterranean climate. Warm, sunny days allow for optimal ripening of wine grapes. Cool winds off the Pacific Ocean act as a natural air conditioner. Winegrapes maintain racy acidity.
Let’s snap out of it. Wine doesn’t always need to be taken so seriously. Taste leads the way, not the price tag on the bottle.
At The Cult Wine Co., we believe enjoying wine should be fun. For us, wine is for loud potluck style dinners, endless catch-up conversations, poured for those long rambling toasts, with glasses that don’t need stems, all to make every occasion a celebration.
From our seasoned wine family rooted in Napa Valley, The Cult Wine Co. started as a pursuit to prove that great wines can be crafted outside the limits of the valley. Napa Valley produces powerful fruit, but it’s not the only place that grows quality wine grapes. California’s Lodi region also benefits from a Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool evenings that develops rich flavors in the wine grapes.
With The Cult Wine Co., all you need to know is what you like. This bold honesty is captivating and suddenly you want to be surrounded by those that see the world of wine as we do. Do you see what we see?

Today’s offering: 2020 CULT Cabernet Sauvignon, Lodi
I think many of us have had various vintages of the CULT Cab over the years, so I’ll keep this report a bit more concise than usual. This one is certainly on par with my prior experiences. Color is deep ruby with a tinge of purple at the edges. The nose opens with red/dark red fruit mostly in the cherry range, a bit of spice, and some earthy/tobacco notes. After an hour or so, some of the earthy notes fade and the cherry steps up front. Palate pretty much echoes the nose. There’s a nice acidity, integrated tannins, and a smooth finish. This wine is food friendly and paired nicely with my simple sausage and mushroom pizza, though it certainly doesn’t require food. It’s just fine sipped on its own.
Day two, the fruit seems darker and more brambly, with blackberry and plum leading the charge, with cherry in the background, still making its presence known. Palate still has a nice acid backbone with a very smooth, lingering finish.
Let’s try a few nibbles:
Milk chocolate covered raisins (Costco): Yes!
Dark Chocolate covered pretzels (Ascher’s): Definitely!
Cherry applesauce (Seaquist): Pretty good!
Marcona Almonds (Costco): OK.
Dried cherries (Costco): Yes (obviously)!
Parmesan herb bread: Pretty good!
Simple Mills Sweet Thins (Costco): Nope, not a match for me.
To sum it up, this is a food friendly Cab that should please the masses. Will it knock your socks off? Probably not. Call it what you want…crowd pleaser, cellar defender, daily drinker. I’m writing this before the deal posts, so I don’t know the exact price, but I have some idea of the historic CM pricing, so at the Casemates price, it’ll be hard to beat.
As always, thanks to WineDavid, Alice and the Casemates crew, as well as CULT Wine Co for the opportunity to contribute to our amazing CM Lab Rat program.
@karenhynes@WCCWineGirl the chocolate covered almonds have proven disastrously addictive in my household. And we’re moving this month to a new place less than 5 minutes from Costco. As the kids say: RIP
