About Broken Earth Winery
Broken Earth Winery was originally born as Rancho Tierra Rejada, meaning “land of worked earth” in Spanish. Based in Paso Robles, they’re a fine representative of the high-quality wines the region spawns and a paragon of sustainability. Winemaker Chris Cameron is the face of Broken Earth. Committed and passionate about winemaking, his attitude is reflected in the winery’s unique wines.

Three novels make up the Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin: The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and The Stone Sky. The story takes place on a supercontinent called the Stillness, heavily damaged by events known as Fifth Seasons every few centuries. Whenever there is a Fifth Season, catastrophic climate and seismic changes ravage the world. Among humanity, there are those who can manipulate a sort of geothermal energy/magic which helps assuage smaller seismic disturbances, but simultaneously their ability makes them pariahs to society. These people are known as orogenes. They are generally either trained and controlled by a group of people called Guardians, or killed. The story begins with one very powerful orogene triggering the worst Fifth Season ever.
