VERMENTINO - The Vertical Shoot Positioning (VSP) trellis system in our vineyard offers excellent shading to lessen the chance of sunburn on our Vermentino fruit. The fruit was handpicked to ensure it retains freshness (no split berries). The grapes were processed first thing in the morning through the new Diemme Velvet 80 Press utilizing the N2 inert gas system; this press ensures that little to no oxygen comes in contact with the juice, resulting in brighter, fresher product.
The fruit arrived on September 24th, 2019, and the yields were a pleasant surprise and larger than expected. The fruit was hand harvested at 6 tons per acre, making this vintage the largest crop to date for this varietal. On September 25th, the remaining Vermentino was harvested, and put through the same processing as the day before. After chilling the juice, it was racked off solids on September 28th and QA23 yeast was added. Alcoholic fermentation finished on November 20th. The wine was racked again, sulfur added, heat stabilized, cold stabilized, and filtered for bottling.
This wine presents a clean clarity, with a gentle shade of straw. Aromas of grapefruit and green tea leaf on the nose, with medium acidity and citrus notes on the palate, completing with a long finish and lingering minerality. Drink now and pair with seafood dishes.

2019 The Outings Vermentino - $30 = 21.42%
I received this bottle a week ago (thank you Alice!) and as it happened, we were having friends over for dinner that evening. Perfect timing as far as I was concerned. You will have comments from five of us.
First I had to look up “Vermentino”. According to Wikipedia:“Vermentino is a light-skinned wine grape variety, primarily found in Italian wine. It is widely planted in both Sardinia and Liguria, to some extent in Corsica, in Piedmont under the name Favorita, and in increasing amounts in Languedoc-Roussillon.”
Then I learned parts of California does grow this varietal.
We served this chilled bottle with Goureges (little French cheese puffs) which was a wonderful pairing. The wine was pale straw in color and two of us tasting felt a very very slight effervescent tingle.
Here are the remarks “Crisp green apple” “minerality of some Rieslings” “Citrusy but not sharp acidic” “I like it” “I like this a lot” “it is very fresh tasting and easy to drink.”
It reminded me of the Vino Verdes we have had in Portugal but with a little more depth (and alcohol).
I asked our friends what they thought the price point would be.
We all agreed that anything around the 14 dollar mark would be an acceptable bargain and around 10 dollars would be a great bargain.
One of us thought this would be a great bottle to bring to events where you want to bring something nice- but not that nice. (I hope I do not have to explain this statement).
In for a case.
Kind of odd, maybe not, but there is a 2019 Broken Earth Limited Release Vermentino on the winery website. Same price as this wine, same specs, same write up as the notes above. So is this same wine with a different label, my guess, or wrong notes and specs here or something entirely different? Just an observation.
Hello Casemates Community! This is Broken Earth Winery and we are here to answer any questions you have, or just tell you a little about the wine and the label…
We grow 21 varieties on our vineyard on the east side of Paso Robles (its really hot on the east side). Vermentino thrives in the heat, as the varietal is mostly known in the Sardinia and Piedmont regions of Italy, but also widely grown in parts of Australia. We use our pneumatic press, which greatly reduces the exposure to oxygen during press. This is why you see such great acidity, color and life to this wine!
The outings label was created by one of our employees that married the ideas of outdoor adventures and exploration. We feel that the Vermentino fits both spaces… it is perfect to take on a hike in the outdoors or a picnic, but also has a sense of depth and exploration in the body of the wine!
Wish this had been offered earlier in the year. I don’t have the space to store what sounds like a nice wine until it’s patio weather again. Full up with reds at the moment.

definitely fwiw
@kaolis @ilCesare
full explanation temporary redacted …
@ilCesare @kaolis @rjquillin … you know those redactions just make us more curious. Whatever we weren’t supposed to know must be super-important!
I know because I watch TV news!
@ilCesare @kaolis @pmarin
Yeah, sorry about that.
The contents of both bottles is indeed the same, just with a different marketing channel.
I am definitely always up for a Vermentino! At this price especially.

I wish this had been offered when it was still warm!
Summer foods lean more towards Vermentino than my present hearty offerings.
@sandbarhappy Agreed, but it will keep for 6 months or so.
