THAT REMINDS ME OF: The Usual Suspects.
Released 1995, the film centers around the interrogation of disabled con-man Roger “Verbal” Kint by Customs agent Dave Kujan as Kint recalls the events that led up to a boat fire and 27 dead bodies.
According to Kint, he connected with four other criminals brought in for a hijacking and decided to pull jobs with them afterwards. After one major success, their second foray goes bad, resulting in a murder. The group learns the job was arranged by a man named Keyser Söze, a shadowy criminal mastermind known for killing his own family. The group is coerced into doing one more job on Söze’s behalf: sinking a ship with a cocaine shipment in the bay. After taking out the gangsters aboard, they shockingly find no cocaine.
27 dead bodies, including the rest of Kint’s gang, and a burning ship later, Kint is arrested and interrogated. Kint is released on bail, his detailed account taken as believable at the time, but something doesn’t sit quite right with Kujan…
