A sparkling Rosé of Pinot Noir from the Dundee Hills AVA. Bright, effervescent, and perfectly refreshing for #roseallday on our countryside patio or anywhere else you choose to enjoy the great outdoors! This wine bursts with notes of strawberry, rose petals, and grapefruit. It is light-bodied and refreshing with a mild acidity that makes it very food-friendly.
Food pairings: Baked brie, grilled prawns, pasta primavera, dark chocolate truffles.
Sourcing incredible fruit from the Dundee Hills AVA, and aging the wine in French oak barrels, we maintain the Alesong approach and high standards of quality and complexity with this effervescent offering.
The finished wine is dry and lightly acidic with a beautiful fruit character, mild oak flavor, and spritzy carbonation, making it exceedingly food friendly.
Food pairings: Raw oysters, aged gruyere, roast pork tenderloin, apple pie
Alesong Brewing & Blending is a small artisan brewery, winery, and cidery based in the heart of Southern Willamette Valley wine country. With 100% of our products spending time in oak, we believe that a thoughtful, balanced blend is much more complex and satisfying than the sum of its parts or each individual barrel by itself.
After seven years of crafting award-winning barrel-aged beers, Alesong launched its wine and cider program in 2023, bringing the same oak-aging expertise and patient craftsmanship to its thoughtfully blended wines and ciders. As enthusiastic consumers of wine and cider in addition to beer, we’re thrilled to share our interpretations of these beverages with you.

I’ve been out to the Alesong tasting room, they are up on the same hill as King Estate a little south and west of Eugene. Don’t recall if I tried either of these.
Also, baked brie is one of my favorite things in the whole world.
Hello, it is your friendly lab rat who was tasked with sampling an interesting pair of bottles.
First off, the bottles are really pretty and unique (500 ml with bottle caps).
I received the bottles a week ago and put them in the wine fridge until tonite to chill and rest after their journey.
I had the rose first.
At first sip, did not like it at all. It was just fizz then with a wine backbone. I did not want to trundle on, but I embraced my inner lab rat and sucked it up. 10-15 minutes later it is much more enjoyable. I am assuming it needs a few minutes for the carbonation to dissipate or needs to warm up. It tastes more like a sparkling rose. Taste is like a standard rose of pinot. Notes of watermelon, strawberry and raspberry. The carbonation seems to block the initial taste and leaves more of a finish.
On to the pinot gris.
The initial impression is quite a bit better than the rose. This is drinkable in a pop and pour manner. The wine was definitely a pinot gris in the new world style, but picking out specific notes is a bit difficult. Low acid and some oak, maybe a bit of prune?
For my tastes, I definitely preferred the rose after it settled down. Its a unique offering as I’m pretty sure these are carbonated more with CO2 injections like beer from a keg than your traditional Champagne method. It just feels and tastes different than your usual sparkler. (I once put some wine in a Sodastream and it would be my closest comparison.)Overall, I prefer the more traditional variants, but I could see people who like beer or cider preferring this. It is hard to compare this price-wise since it is unusual. If you are adventurous, I say give a 6 pack a shot. I’m going to sit this one out as I would prefer a still rose over this expression.
You are probably going to love or considerate meh. Which side you fall on is going to be down to your personal preferences.
I usually try to reserve some for the next day, but it is hard to do so with a carbonated bottle, so I will follow up and go off of memory.
Alesong Brewing 2022 Sparkling Pinot Gris and Sparkling Rosé of Pinot Noir
I wasn’t quite sure how to approach this rattage, but fortunately a sunny summer day in Sonoma presented the ideal opportunity. Alesong Brewing Sparkling Pinot Gris and Rosé of Pinot Noir. Quick take, if you bit on the St Mayhem offers here or like something adult, cold and bubbly for the pool like hard seltzers, this is an option. I took them pool-side and experimented.
First the wines themselves. The 2022 Pinot Gris was a nice golden straw color. It was lightly aromatic with notes of apricot, citrus and lychee. It was quite dry with light stone fruit on the palate. There was a sense of tannin like almond skins which I think may have come from the oak aging.
The 2023 Rosé of Pinot Noir was very pale ruby and had a nice strawberry and watermelon aroma profile. In the mouth, the fruit had to overcome the carbonation to show through and seemed more citrusy. The wine had a similar almond skin taste on the finish with a hint of tannin.
I checked the website for details, and I am guessing that these wines did not undergo a secondary fermentation to develop effervescence. Perhaps they were force carbonated. That carbonation is right upfront on the palate and tends to mute the fruit a bit, which is why they reminded me of a more wine-like hard seltzer. I will check later to see if that changes, but in the meanwhile I decided to let it be bubbly.
I experimented with the Sparkling Pinot Gris instead of Prosecco in an Aperol Spritz. Some Proseccos can be on the sweet side, but the Alesong Pinot Gris was a nice counterpart to the Aperol. We also tried them over ice and with a dash of Cassis like a Kir Royale. They were refreshing, dry and bubbly.
With the sun shining and temps high, these sparklers could fill the bill for dry adult bubbles in place of hard seltzers and wine coolers. These are not to be compared to a Method Classic or Charmat sparkling wine in my opinion, but more like a fun, bubbly wine option to light beer, tonic water or Perrier. Cheers and happy 4th!
