In order to produce Prismé, we use only Pinot noir free-run juice. It is then barrel-fermented and aged on its lees in French oak barrels for 16 months. This structured white wine has a backbone of acidity, a voluptuous mid-palate and a long, creamy finish. Prismé is named after the word prism - the splitting of white light into its corresponding colors. Here we are doing precisely that in reverse, making a rich, textured white wine from Pinot Noir.
Vinification
The Prismé starts with 100% Pinot noir free run juice that is settled and racked into barrels. It is entirely barrel-fermented in French oak puncheons; bâttonage, allowed partial natural malolactic fermentation and then aged on its lees for 16 months before bottling.
Vintage Description
The 2019 growing season was a departure from recent years in the Willamette Valley. The last five years (2014-2018) have been warmer than average years with heat spikes in the high 90s to low 100s. These years also saw precipitation stopping in May or early June. 2019 continued the trend of warm temperatures but with only a few days above 90. The weather stayed consistently in the 60s-80s. We also received measurable rainfall every month of the season. These conditions were excellent for steady vine growth and fruit development, but they were ideal for grape pathogens as well. In the vineyard, we managed this disease pressure by training the vine growth onto the trellis and opening the fruit zone to provide air movement and light, which makes conditions less favorable for infection. Our crew did an outstanding job pruning; focusing on vine architecture so that the natural shape of the vines “set the table” well for the handwork we did in the summer. In the middle of September, as harvest approached, we received several fronts that dropped 2.5 inches of rain on our winery estate and even more on our Twelve Oaks Estate. These late rains brought ideal conditions for botrytis to develop in the clusters and put us on high alert. Because of the disease pressure, we picked earlier than normal in some of our lower elevation blocks at the Twelve Oaks Estate, which were hit the hardest by the rains. The rains subsided in early October, as we harvested the majority of our crop. The challenges of the year were a reminder that you cannot take anything for granted when growing wine grapes in a cool climate. And this vintage shows when you meet those challenges, you are able to produce truly stunning, compelling wines.
AROMA
Fresh peaches, mead, star anise, butterscotch, cardamom, yellow plum
When Dr. Robert Pamplin, one of Oregon’s most forward-thinking philanthropists and businessmen, purchased the historic Chateau Benoit Winery in 1999, his vision was to create wines of the highest quality to reflect his passion for excellence. To this end Dr. Pamplin has charged winemaker Thomas Houseman and winegrower Peter Ebbers with the task of crafting extraordinary pinot noir. Thomas, Peter, and the rest of the crew are absolutely passionate about producing wines of the finest quality and have dedicated their lives to this quest.
Pinot reigns supreme at Anne Amie Vineyards with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc forming the heart of our production. Complementing the pinot family is Old-Vine Estate Müller Thurgau, planted in 1979. As with all great wines, our’s start in the vineyards. We are fortunate to have some of Oregon’s best sites, all of which are Salmon Safe and LIVE certified. Our estate vineyards, along with those we purchase from, receive only the minimal required treatments and yields are dramatically reduced in order to give fruit with great depth and complexity.
Our estate vineyards are located in the rolling hills of the Yamhill-Carlton District and on the steep hillsides of the Chehalem Mountains, both nestled in Oregon’s verdant Willamette Valley. Our LIVE certified winery is located on our Yamhill-Carlton property, a few miles from both Lafayette and Carlton, Oregon.

@bunnymasseuse@moczy@thelecroy@bszamd@cduan I would also take a few bottles, ideally 3 or 4 but perhaps up to 6, if there’s a big group ordering and I’m not considered too far away. I’m near Hagerstown.
@Bszamd@cduan@jeffcohen@moczy@thelecroy well that single case isn’t going to flex that far, I’ll get another case, but we may need to figure out who is VA based to see if there’s enough to split one out round border. @applepi would you be interested in any of a VA box if one emerged?
So:
Box 1: bunny and Cduan (bunny receiving)
Box 2: Jeff cohen & bszamd (bunny receiving)
/giphy shocking-tangible-okra
Box 3 (yet to be purchased): maybe moczy applepi & thelecroy ?
@ApplePI@Bszamd@bunnymasseuse@cduan@moczy@thelecroy Just let me know what I need to do. If it’s 6, that’s fine, but if there are others who join I’m fine with less. I’m out of town a few days but I’ll respond. Thanks!
@Bszamd &@jeffcohen I got a case, if we can peel some off of this for @thelecroy and make that work I’d like to do it. I’ll handle the logistics of the H-town coordination, including with the more DC metro folks. DM me your info so I can coordinate over phone for those that have not wine-legged with Bunny before.
Waiting for the rats, but we’ve really enjoyed the earlier Anne Amie offerings. Price is a bit beyond our usual budget, but would be willing to go for it with good reviews.
ALICE… thank you for choosing me as a Lab Rat!! Love the opportunity. This is an easy wine. Perfect for a hot day like today.
It was a surprise pour right out of the bottle. This wine may be made from red grapes but truly has the profile of a white wine creating a dynamic and complex experience for the consumer.
As complex as it may be, there is something simple and understated about it. It is a clean, crisp, faithful and delineated. I like it! White gold and almost amber in color. Body makes a weighty introduction at first, but then gives silky mouth feel. This pinot noir blanc has bold citrus flavors, perfect for an end of summer evening drink to shake the hot wether. Right out of the bottle the aromatics give subtle notes of lemon, orange and grapefruit. The finish engulfs you with a smooth buttery taste, with hints of peach and caramel apple. The more it sat, the buttery it got!
There is a happy little something hidden in the profile that elevates those fruity notes. I think it may be the oak? It’s truly hard to pin down, whatever it is has added another great flavor level to this wine that the chardonnay and non-chardonnay drinkers will enjoy. Get it before the Summer ends!! Well made and approachable. I paired my glass with grilled buttered shrimp on cauliflower rice.
Pardon the photo bomber in the back… he was so excited to LabRat with me.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?
(Note: tax and shipping are not included in savings calculations).
2019 Anne Amie Vineyards Prismé Pinot Noir Blanc - $80 = 28.56%
I got super lucky this week and also got to Rat this wine as well! I have purchased other Anne Amie wines and love them and was super excited to try this.
It was the same group that tasted with me. Most of the group prefer red wines, but are not opposed to a nice well structured white.
I had this in the regular fridge and had planned on taking it out before we tasted, to let it warm up a bit. I forgot, but that turned out to be a good thing.
PNP
Color- A beautiful medium amber honey color.
Aroma - nothing distinct - General consensus, way to cold for the aromas to come thru.
Taste - WOW!!! was the first word we all said. Which is super crazy as we very, very rarely all like the same wine.
Wonderful thick mouth feel. Most got an apricot/peach flavor. With a bright aftertaste, kind of lemony/ citrusy without being overpowering. Crisp and clean and had us wanting more.
Poured another glass and we let the wine warm up, cool, but not room temperature.
Aroma - got hints of citrus and maybe tart apple
Taste- I got more granny smith apple flavor/feel. That tart, but not to tart flavor with the kind of tangy finish. I thought it had a more pronounced lemon finish. The others were still getting stone fruit flavors with a nice crisp finish.
Warmer it had a thicker, creamier mouthfeel.
The general opinion is both straight out of the fridge and warmer, it is hard to describe, in a good way. We found it unique, complex and totally delicious! It is crazy as we hardly ever agree on a wine we all love.
Some preferred the flavor straight out of the fridge.
I personally loved that either super cold or room temp, the wine is super delicious. You can pour it cold and enjoy the transformation as it warms up.
We guessed the price point to be between $25-35. Mom said “I don’t care what it cost, I want a case”. I agree. So I am ordering 2 cases as soon as I am done with this review.
@mommadeb was it “oaky” or “buttery” like Chardonnays? Or would you say it’s more like the Anne Amie rose of Pinot Gris (the last Casemates offering, if you happen to have gotten it)?
@cduan definitely not oaky. It is richer than the Pinot Gris, if that makes sense. Im not a huge chardonnay person. But tvis seems more complex, richer and brighter than some of the chards I’ve had.
Hope this helps.
Too interesting to pass up. I enjoyed previous offerings from this vineyard. Sounds like a perfect Thanksgiving wine.
/giphy whispering-fascinated-daisy
Have had and enjoyed Anne Amie in the past, including this particular wine which we purchased when visiting the winery a few years ago. Anyone in San Francisco interested in going splitsies on this? I’ll take 3, 4 or 6 bottles depending on interest.
@jennyrenard@mommadeb So sweet? Not sweet? Sweet but balanced by acidity? I’m guessing by the fact that you both found it crisp and clean, that it’s not notably sweet.
It would have been nice if the winery had included RS info in the specs, but getting confirmation from the Rats would be great.
@kaolis he didn’t mince words either! Most people in the industry dance around when addressing certain subjects. I like his honesty. Thanks for sharing
@kaolis@losthighwayz Wow always like my wine with a bit of scandal. However, now I do have a new bucket-list destination in Michigan. Cabernet Franc from Michigan? who would have thought?
Any PDX case buyers? Or, hey is that a Clark County WA order I see on the map?
Would love to get 4 or 6 btls.
would order myself but with random shipping schedules, afraid it might hit right while I’m at the coast for my mother’s 95th birthday. I have UPS mychoice but they will only hold for a few days.
Here’s again wishing there was a buy-and-hold system, even at extra cost, where purchases could be stored until you request a bulk shipment of all the stored stuff. Presumably in an air-conditioned warehouse and not in the back of a UPS truck.
@losthighwayz I guess I should have looked at the closure first! But either way I hope it’s a one-off. There have been many excellent Anne-Amie deals here over the years.
@klezman we shared a case with @losthighwayz. We opened a bottle yesterday and also share his opinion, even after trying again today. Maybe our case was abused in transit because we have been happy with past offerings. At this point we are chalking it up to summer shipping rather than the wine itself.
Casemates… it’s been almost a year since you brought this to my attention… can you bring this back sometime soon? Myself and friends are asking and pleading!

@bunnymasseuse Im near Kings Dominion in VA and would be interested in splitting a case if youre not too far away
@bunnymasseuse count us in!!!
@bunnymasseuse @cduan how many are people thinking?
@bunnymasseuse Here in PGMD. Glad to go half.
@bunnymasseuse @moczy @thelecroy @bszamd @cduan I would also take a few bottles, ideally 3 or 4 but perhaps up to 6, if there’s a big group ordering and I’m not considered too far away. I’m near Hagerstown.
@Bszamd @bunnymasseuse @cduan @jeffcohen @thelecroy
Ideally 3-6 for me but im flexible based on number of people, etc
@Bszamd @cduan @jeffcohen @moczy @thelecroy well that single case isn’t going to flex that far, I’ll get another case, but we may need to figure out who is VA based to see if there’s enough to split one out round border.

@ApplePI @Bszamd @bunnymasseuse @cduan @jeffcohen @moczy @thelecroy I’m in the Fan area of Richmond and would be willing to part with up to four bottles - sounds like @moczy is closest.
@ApplePI @Bszamd @bunnymasseuse @cduan @DebRVA @jeffcohen @thelecroy 4 works perfectly for me!
@Bszamd @bunnymasseuse @cduan @jeffcohen @moczy @thelecroy I’m going to skip this one, but thank you!
@ApplePI @Bszamd @bunnymasseuse @cduan @moczy @thelecroy Just let me know what I need to do. If it’s 6, that’s fine, but if there are others who join I’m fine with less. I’m out of town a few days but I’ll respond. Thanks!

@ApplePI @bunnymasseuse @cduan @jeffcohen @moczy @thelecroy Many thanks for thinking of us.
I’m pretty far from VA and Hagerstown so I got myself the case. If someone near Bowie wants, I can share.
@jeffcohen & @thelecroy you wanna split the 6&6 then? On the 2nd case I got?
Waiting for the rats, but we’ve really enjoyed the earlier Anne Amie offerings. Price is a bit beyond our usual budget, but would be willing to go for it with good reviews.
@stolicat also liked previous offerings, decided to go for it…
@bunnymasseuse Feedback and rat reports sounding great, started worrying it would sell out, so in for a case:
/giphy uplifted-unfortunate-family
and I ordered the stroopwafels also …
@stolicat I get mine at TJMaxx/Marshall’s/HomeGoods
I had to go check meh to see if they were selling stroopwafels again tonight.
@InFrom Ha! Woot is but there’s only 12 minutes left and the button is blinking.
@catcoland @InFrom - they’re on SideDeal:
@catcoland @stolicat That is too funny.
The other pairing suggestions sounded pretty tasty.

2019 Anne Amie Vineyards Prismé Pinot Noir Blanc - $80 = 28.56%
So what’s the difference between this and a Pinot Rose? Just lack of skin contact?
@klezman Duh, it ain’t pink!
Why no Iowa? I’ve ordered from this winery in the past?

@DebRVA hit up @moczy they could be a decent splitter with you pending distance b/t, and whether you are looking to hold on to the whole case
@bunnymasseuse @moczy Done in your earlier thread - I’m willing to part with up to 4 bottles. I’m in the Fan area.
I am in. Anne Amie has been a consistently quality juice and this one sounds just too intriguing to pass up!
Have had and enjoyed Anne Amie in the past, including this particular wine which we purchased when visiting the winery a few years ago. Anyone in San Francisco interested in going splitsies on this? I’ll take 3, 4 or 6 bottles depending on interest.

@InFrom Not sweet. Not bone dry either. It was perfectly balanced with the acidity. Nice crisp finish
@mommadeb Thanks. Sounds like something I would like.
@InFrom not too sweet for me. It was crisp and citrusy, with hints of peach
@jennyrenard Thanks, good to hear.
Thomas Houseman, the winemaker named above, is no longer with Anne Amie as of the '21 or '22 vintage I believe. Interesting little blurb here
Current winemakers are Jay Somers & Kory Sumner
fwiw…and it’s not much!
@kaolis he didn’t mince words either! Most people in the industry dance around when addressing certain subjects. I like his honesty. Thanks for sharing

Received shipment yesterday. Opened just now. Dark yellow in color and nutty. Over the hill. Drinkable but I’m disappointed
@losthighwayz ouch, got mine, have not tried yet, still need to disperse.
@losthighwayz Nutty usually means oxidation which might just be a bad cork. Maybe it’s a one off.
@klezman but it’s a Stelvin enclosure
@klezman @losthighwayz
Stelvin is not perfect either.
@klezman @losthighwayz @ScottW58
Especially if they get dinged around the top edge.
@losthighwayz I guess I should have looked at the closure first! But either way I hope it’s a one-off. There have been many excellent Anne-Amie deals here over the years.

Just opened my first bottle (of 12). Greatly relieved in light of the @losthighwayz thread. This bottle, at least, is crisp, clean and delicious.
