Antique single varietals
1Just wondered what unique old school wines people had tried and what they thought of them. I was reading about Charbono and wine in Napa and wineries founded on this now very obscure wine. I went looking to see where I could buy it. One place would only let you order a single 375 ml bottle?
So have you tried this or something else like it? Tell me/us about it?

Buena Vista I believe sells it as a single varietal. Also Barak Mountain, checking my CT.
Had Charbono. The old site sold one called “Fable”.
Chassellas is a nice crisp aromatic white you don’t see on this side of the ocean but it’s the dominant variety in western Switzerland.
@klezman thanks
interestingly, the Charbono from Napa is a red
@Cerridwyn Yeah, it’s a red grape. I didn’t mean to suggest that it was in any way related to Chassellas aside from being obscure.
@klezman
my misunderstanding
that chassellas sounds interesting,
i much prefer interesting and unique / obscure to the every day stuff.
what did you think of the Charbono?
@Cerridwyn I liked it. iirc it had nice floral aromas.
Saddleback makes a Charbono. I have some in my “cloud cellar” from UC, so I haven’t tried it yet.
Summers Estate in Calistoga has Charbono. We tasted it there last Spring and brought a bottle home. No specific notes but we both liked it and it was somewhat unique to our tastes.
@pjmartin
And Benchmark has one currently up in their bin sale
