The Willamette Valley is Oregon’s largest AVA with 12,000 planted vineyard acres, known for high quality Pinot Noir and its volcanic, silty clay loam soils.
Oregon’s 2016 vintage will truly be remembered as one of the greatest. Warmer spring and summer temperatures led to one of the earliest seasons on record in the last 25 years in our vineyards. Despite the early start, 2016 ended up below our historical average of 2,440 growing degree days. The consistently warm, dry weather allowed us to achieve true physiological ripeness at harvest, which started September 5 and concluded October 1. The fruit that came into the cellar in 2016 is truly expressive with rich, concentrated flavors that will continue to evolve over time.

Battle Creek 2016 Reserve Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)
Light and forward, this fruity wine shows strawberry and raspberry flavors out in front, thinning out through the midpalate. As it fades away, some lightly grassy, herbal notes come up, and the finish turns just a little bitter. PG 10/1/19
Upon opening I sniffed yummy strawberry jam with hints of cherry with a hint of cherry cola. I detected a bit of alcohol there, but it was not overpowering. This is a pretty big PN.
The wife got some darker fruits.
On PNP We both detected darker fruit with some acid and tannins on the back pallet. There was a bit of tartness on the finish.
After 20 mins the acid and tannins smoothed out and the fruit blossomed with a long finish of raspberry and tart cherry. There was still a bit of tartness on the pallet but I enjoyed it following the fruit. Almost like a tart pie.
The wife and I were thinking anything under $15 would be a steel. Looking forward to any rats on the Unconditional PN. May just have to order a case!
I am traveling today but will be around for any questions.
In my rush to post before my flight I forget to post what wine I was reviewing. Yep, this was for the reserve. Looks like a Casemates Christmas elf update my post for me

I’m in for half a case if someone in Houston wants to take the other half.
@modfalk I’d be up for that! I’m inside the loop, so can meet pretty much anywhere for the exchange.
@lethcoeb Cool I will let you know when it’s on its way.
