This very expressive rosé is pure Gamay from the Beaujolais area of southern Burgundy. It is produced by Nicolas Potel at his Burgundy négociant company, Maison Roche de Bellene. Nicolas and his team have sourced beautifully clean, ripe fruit and have used minimal cellar work in order to preserve the naturally fruity personality of the Gamay grape. The Bellenos Rosé of Gamay Noir has vibrant red raspberry and cherry notes and the mineral inflection that is typical of the southern, Austral region of Burgundy.

Named for the ancient Celtic god of the sun, Bellenos wines are the ideal introduction to Burgundy. Bright, charming, affordably priced and ready to drink, they are the delicious “yes” that answers the eternal question: “Can’t we drink Burgundy every day?”
The Bellenos wines are grown on the sunny slopes of the Coteaux Bourguignons (“Hillsides of Burgundy”) appellation. This new appellation was created to showcase the classic taste of the entire Burgundy region, from the Côte d’Or in the north to Beaujolais in the south. Produced by Nicolas Potel at his négociant company, Maison Roche de Bellene, the Bellenos cuvées are the graceful result of Burgundy’s cool yet sunny climate, noble terroir, and traditional grape varieties — all in the hands of heartfelt winemaking.

@cduan splitzies?or buy 2cases, one for you & one for me? Thoughts? Otherwise I’ll have to leverage a wine friend in VA who doesn’t know I’m about to ship them wine : )
Hey everyone, I hope that lab rat image worked, it’s a little awkward on my phone. Thanks to Alice and the casemates team for sending a bottle of this to me!
This wine is a very pretty peach or light orange, not the dark pink rose of gamay I randomly drank earlier this week!
On the nose my partner and I picked up strawberry, apples, and watermelon.
Those fruity flavors carried through on the palate, finishing with rainier cherry.
I bet the main thing you’re curious about is how this is holding up, and I think it’s funny beautifully right now. No mouth puckering acidity, almost a creamy mouth feel which keeps me coming back for more.
Definitely worth the price of admission here, I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying what this rose has to offer.
Reverse Wine Snob had this back in February as an Insider deal. About $12.50 per bottle delivered. He gave it a taste rating of 8, and overall Highly Recommended.
@jeffmarazoni Good day…are you associated with the wine? Nice marketing pics but any comments on this wine? How long do you think this will hold up? Thanks!
Hello, this 2017 is holding up extremely well, quite fresh and showing all the fresh, vibrant fruit notes as when released. I even tasted the 2017 along with the 2016 in planning this offer and both show very well. If you buy a case and don’t get to the 12th bottle for 12-24 months, it will still be showing quite well. No worries here! This
Rosé is well worth the regular price, at this discounted offer, it is really a great opportunity. Cheers!
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?
(Note: Tax & Shipping not included in savings calculations.)
2017 Bellenos Rosé of Gamay Noir - $30 = 23.07%

Wine Review: This pale ice pink colored wine made from Gamay was very well received by all those that tried it. It opens with a faint Maraschino cherry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is light bodied, slightly acidic and fresh. The flavor profile is a mild strawberry and gentle mineral blend with a hint of watermelon and peach. The finish is dry and drifts away nicely. This Rose is a great value and a real quaffer that would pair well with a mahi-mahi sandwich. Enjoy – Ken
Wine Enthusiast too…had this to say:
86 Points. Fresh, light and fruity, this is a crisp, red-currant-flavored wine. Refreshing acidity and a bright aftertaste are already delicious. Drink now. RV 4/1/19

When I visited Burgundy in the summer and fall of 2017, cellars were full of Côteaux Bourguignon. I was surprised at how many vignerons had embraced this category – one that falls into the gluggable, cuddly, one-more-glass-why-not-? sort of category.
Producers that previously made nothing but estate-grown wines were producing it, so it was hardly surprising that a talented négociant like Nicolas Potel was not only making some, but making it under a new, smartly styled label with a nod to the Celtic name of Bellenos emblazoned on the label.
Between the wine, the price, the look and the distribution, I think Bellenos just might crush it!
And in May 2018 said this about today’s offer:
86 Points. Bellenos 2017 Rosé of Gamay Noir 12% $16
Cotton candy pink in color, this wine has a nose of rose petals and field strawberries. Despite the palate-filling texture, there’s not even a whisper of oak influence here; it’s all about stainless steel to protect the wine’s pure fruit core and lean, lithe body. The palate has scintillating acidity and bursts forward with a shower of light tannins on the moderate finish. This is a crispy, dry and minerally food-driven wine made in a markedly different style in comparison to its Provençal cousins. This drinks well now and with its massive acidity will hold nicely in the short-term. Drink: 2018-19
And let’s not forget The Fifty Best(?) who awarded a silver medal in 2018:
To make this wine, Gamay Noir (100%) grapes from a vineyard noted for soils of granite, clay and limestone were harvested and “whole cluster” fermented, then aged in stainless steel tanks.
Aroma: Fresh-pressed empire apple cider, apple, pear, peach, strawberry, raspberry, cranberry, tangerine, lemon, citrus, honeysuckle, floral, lemongrass, black pepper, mineral, stones, funky, musty, earthy.
Palate: Strawberry, red berry, cherry, currant, white peach, apple, watermelon, white grapefruit, lemon, lime, lemon peel, citrus, pink lemonade, salinity, mineral, flinty.
Finish: Cherry, strawberry, cranberry, citrus, lemon peel, grapefruit peel, floral, minerality, salinity, ocean breeze.
This wine made the rounds it seems…let’s see what our Danish friend Houlberg(?) had to say June '19:
Casemates is directly tapped into my brainspace. I had a need for some nice roses for an upcoming baby shower at our home (for the non-pregnant people of course) and boom, here it is. In for 2 cases.
I am a completely dumb person: when the email said the was launching for August 12, I assumed that was at 9pm today, not 9pm yesterday.
So here’s…a too late report? For posterity.
So I was pretty excited to receive this. Popped it in the fridge, and then the next day pulled it out about half an hour before I opened it.
On the nose, a nice crisp pear with a hint of grapefruit. Nice color, I had high expectations. The good: really nice color, nice acidity, a nice floral nose. No one will hate this wine!
The bad: well.i don’t think anyone is going to love it either. You know, it’s a misconception to say that Rosé can’t age. It’s all about the quality of the fruit and making it in a style the makes it age-able. That said, this is not an aging Rosé. There’s a floral nose, and nice acidity, but in the mouth, this is an incredibly neutral wine.
My recommendation is use it for a base for a white sangria.
