2015 Bergevin Lane She-Devil Syrah, Columbia Valley
Tasting Notes
Silky dark fruit with layers of savory earth. Dark fruit and smoke create a woven and plush feel to the flavors. Get a good long book to enjoy with the finish of berries cocoa and tobacco. Wow.
Winemaking Notes
Whole Berry Fermentation at cooler temperatures creates deep, dark fruit flavors. We go slowly with our fermentations, creating smooth textures and darkening the color. The new oak adds bold coffee and toast notes, while the neutral barrels add weight and substance.
Our favorite foods with this wine are: Grilled lamb with grilled veggies with lemon and rosemary. Any creamy and strong cheese with baquette or crackers.

2015 Bergevin Lane Moonspell Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley
Tasting Notes
The color is a deep dark garnet with aromas of blackberry pie complimented by a dusting of toasted oak. The curtain opens with dancing cherries on the first sip mingling with mouth-coating tannins, blackberry and a hint of tobacco.
2015 was a warm year which resulted in harvest starting earlier than usual and finishing three weeks earlier than we ever experienced. Due to a freeze in November of 2014, our yields were lower than usual resulting in intense dark wines. To determine ripeness we rely on both chemical analysis and flavor analysis to select our harvest date. Our cabernet sauvignon clusters were hand harvested, hand sorted, destemmed and lightly crushed. We only use gravity to move the crushed grapes and juice. No pressed wine is used in making the Moonspell. The free run juice is barrel aged for 18 months and thoughtfully blended by our winemaking team just before bottling.

Established in 2002 by two friends pursuing a shared dream. Bergevin Lane Winery nurtures wines that embody the truly unique environment of Walla Walla, Columbia and Yakima Valleys and the distinct single vineyards from where the rich terrestrial wines come from.
Our goal is to design wines that are well-balanced, fruit forward and structured so that they may be cellared or enjoyed immediately.
The vision that we share is to create elegant-styled wines that reflect harmony between fruit and oak. Stylistically, we make wines that reflect the unique terroir attributes, while maintaining integrity to the varietal characteristics. Some of our favorite adjectives for our wines include: food friendly, fruit-driven, structured and smooth… And simply put, wines that all can enjoy for any occasion.
We make wines of sizzle and mood. Wines that can muscle for your affection, or drink like a dash of glitter across an elegant shoulder.

@danandlisa it’s tasting so yummy the good news is that you really won’t need much storage because it will be gone before you know it! We have found that it pairs really well with your favorite streaming show or movie! Thank you for your support!!!
Hey all! I was lucky enough to get to be a rat for the
2015 Bergevin Lane Moonspell Cabernet Sauvignon
Timing couldn’t have been better, as I got a rather shiny little wine fridge for the holidays, so I don’t have to fight for fridge space for them now.
Initial impression ~56* from the wine fridge. Tart, not much tannins at first. Very bright, cherry-like fruit. Not sweet, but definitely cheerful. I rather like it, but I can tell it’s got some room to open up, so I pour it into the decanter.
I let it sit in the decanter for about an hour while dinner cooked- Steak au poivre with mushrooms, roasted potatoes, and green beans. As it warmed up, it got more tannins, enough to hold up to the steak quite well. It’s very rich and deep, rather reminds me of one of the Scott Harvey wines in terms of comparable flavors.
I think next time, I’ll let it spend a bit less time in the decanter, it got a bit too tannic for my tastes once it got to room temperature. (Then again, my building’s central heat is set to “skinny old person” mode in the winter, so it’s a constant game of opening the windows long enough to not overheat but not so long we freeze, so it might have just gotten a touch too warm). But definitely an enjoyable one at this price point. Thanks and happy holidays!
I have the 2014 Cab and the 2015 Syrah from previous offers. If this 2015 Cab is anything like the 2014, then the ~$11 per bottle case price is a steal. Even the $14/bottle price for the 4-pack is a bargain.
Good evening all!
I’ve had the good fortune to rat a bottle of the
2015 Bergevin Lane She-Devil Syrah
Pop…eh… Twist and pour at around 65 F revealed nice medium-deep ruby color with medium viscosity. Nose initially has a little heat, faint plum, smoke, and oak, with stronger earthy notes. On to taste. No perceived sweetness (as it should be). Acid and tannin are moderate. A slight bit hot, but expect it to go away. Nice medium body with flavors of plum, tart cherry, and peppery spice. The spiciness lingers for a good 30+ seconds.
Paired the wine shortly after opening with some grilled/lightly pecan wood smoked chicken thighs with a slightly spicy dry rub; garlic mashed potatoes; and grilled zucchini. This was a very nice pairing for the syrah with the dry rub playing off the extended finish of the wine.
Filled a second glass after dinner and waited about 90 minutes after opening to take a second tasting and was quite surprised by the change in profile. Nose is dramatically different with predominate notes of cocoa and licorice. Flavors follow along with addition of tart red fruit and baking spice. Alcohol has calmed a bit and the wine overall has become more cohesive.
Overall this is a nice syrah, especially with some open time. Should have plenty of life left in it, especially with the screw top. This wine would be a very good value at $15 a bottle and now seeing the case price with the cab below $11 is pretty damn great.
I will take another tasting tomorrow evening to see if any additional changes develop.
Cheers!
Howdy all ! Kickstarter and winery person here, so if you have any questions that aren’t too techie (I didn’t make the wine, but I do sell it) HMU. Thanks all for being here again !
@tastebud@luvbergevinlane Any thoughts on how these will continue to age and the optimal drinking windows? By all accounts these seem to be great now, but whenever I buy a case, I always like to lay down a couple of bottles and mark the calendar.
@jfuruno@luvbergevinlane Sorry! just getting alerted to this msg ! I think for me, the CS will definitely have a few more good years on it, I would probably enjoy the Syrah over the next 2. Thanks for your support !
I’ve bought both the Syrah and the cab before and they’re fantastic - it’s a lighter bodied Syrah which makes it an easy drink and the cab is just wonderful. Both need air but man they are tasty. Thanks David for another stellar offer.
@DebRVA We have found that you do not have to purchase extra storage for these beauties! They tend to disappear about as fast as they arrive! LOL! These prices are easy on the pocketbook and during these crazy times they help make hanging out at home a lot more enjoyable!
Based on our She-Devil and 2014 Moonspell experience, we’re definitely in for a case! This week may present a bit of a hit to the wine budget!

FYI: ReverseWineSnob has the Bergevin Lane Moonspell Cab 2015 for $15/bttl. Seems like an amazing Casemates price. Interesting that WCC is doing both deals! Glad to be on the cheaper side! RWS Bergevin Moonspell
@ejrunion@rjquillin Everything I’ve seen on that site is not as advantageously priced as on RWS. But not everything there also shows up here - picked up a 6-pack of Harvest Moon Estate Zin there a while back that hasn’t come here.
@ejrunion@rjquillin Um, obviously I was writing that with a screaming child around or something. The RWS deals that appear here have always been better on this site.
All the positive comments put me over the top. Hopefully getting this Syrah will also help me keep my hands off of the Andrew Murray I ordered earlier this year.
I’m up for it. I don’t know nothin’ about nothin’ but I have had Bergevin Lane’s other offerings before and been nothin’ but happy.

So I went to the cellar to check how many she-devils were left…there were 12, after all… hmmm…none. OK, I’m in. (not festooned)

Thankfully ordered a case yesterday. My present to me for getting my covid vaccine. Great QPR! Enjoyed the 2014 Cab I got last year & hoping 2015 is the same. And come on how can you not like a wine named she devil just fun but seriously like it as well. It’s a easy drinkerCheers Happy New Year!
Hardly remember the last case of She-Devil…because the wife demolished it. In for a case. Maybe I’ll even get to drink some of it this time.

Ack, looks like right as I tried to place my order, cases sold out again. Settled for 4, but @WineDavid49 I’m guessing no chance of a 2nd reup? #hopingforanewyearsmiracle
I already bought my case last night, and have bought from this producer before, but for anyone on the edge, I’d recommend getting the small pack that is still available. Especially if you have not had wines from this region. These are quite different from what you may typically find in a California product. You know you can read the description (thanks, rats!) but really the only way to really “get” it (learning what it’s like) is to literally “get” it (the wine) and taste it. The 4-btl pack is a good way to “get” it. And besides what better way to say goodbye to 2020 than ordering some wine?
Received our case January 15. Opened one of each to have with a bowl of homemade beef stew with cornbread and roasted veggies. Wife loved the syrah straight away with dinner. After dinner, I put together a quick cheese plate of domestic Camembert, Societe Roquefort, English walnuts, and some Kalamata olives. Camembert played very well with syrah. Roquefort to a lesser extent was still better with the syrah. Walnuts were neutral. Black olives were slightly better with the cabernet, I think because of the strong flavor, oil, and salt. Both are food friendly, I’d be curious about another year or two on the cab, drink the syrah now.

@jfuruno The random order name generator seems obsessed with “festooned.” Not a word you hear in normal conversation often.
@pmarin I noticed that as well.
The consensus was too much for me to resist. Plus I’ve been in a red rut with Italian. In for a case!
