On the nose are strawberries and crème aromas, while the palate welcomes tart berry notes with a refreshing off-dry mouthfeel and lingering finish.
The Grenache Noir was harvested on September 20th 2019. This was our first machine harvested fruit of the season. The fruit was crushed, destemmed, and sent to tank in the morning and the temperature of the tank was lowered for a cold soak. The fruit arrived at 23.4 degrees Brix level and at 3.49 pH. Tartaric acid was added to adjust the pH level and QA23 yeast was used to inoculate. The must was cold soaked for 36 hours and then the excess juice was drained from the tank and sent to a separate tank for our Rosé. The remainder of the first tank still on skins would be used to make red wine.
On November 13th, the Rosé finished fermentation and was racked off lees. Bentonite and SO2 were then added for wine preservation and heat stabilization. Then the wine was racked off bentonite, and cream of tartar was added for cold stabilization of the Rosé. The wine was filtered before bottling.

Aromas of watermelon and ocean spray meet with crumpled lavender and red flowers on the nose of this bottling. Stony flavors show on the palate, where wet cement, plum and ash elements make for a compelling sip. MK 12/1/20

Sorry for the late report but with tax day and crazy work schedules, things were much busier than usual. I should say that I was in a very good mood when sampling this wine, having completed an upgrade successfully the night before. It was also a perfect day for rosé which didn’t hurt either.
Pnp the nose was strawberry with some stone fruit as it warmed from fridge temp. It tasted very much the same, with watermelon notes sneaking in. Acidity was in check with the slightest hint of residual sugar. Finish was short to medium.
I’ve never had a wine from Broken Earth before, as they don’t ship to my state. I was quite pleased with this as a summer quaffer and pegged this in the $10-12 range for a case which turned out to be correct. I was happy to see the rs numbers given and that we were in dry territory. It has plenty of fruit which can sometimes be confused with rs. My wife also really enjoyed this and gave big thumbs up.
Overall, I think this is a great choice for a daily summer rosé and would be in for a case if I was on the ship to list and wasn’t overflowing with rosés. This is good qpr and timed perfectly for summer.
Thanks to WD, Alice, and the entire Casemates team for the opportunity. It’s such a great and unique program. As always I’m happy to answer any questions. Cheers!
@Belbembef That is a kind offer. I am in Michigan, although coincidentally I may be driving through Mpls next month. (I am originally from MN so that’s why I get to say “elites” … we’ll be visiting family in IA and MN in June.) I don’t need this rosé that badly, and if I even have time to stop in the Twin Cities it will probably be at Surdyk’s. But thank you anyway!
@baldwino0@Belbembef thanks for your kind offer. It is very much appreciated. Unfortunately I don’t come west via MSP very often and even less so this year and last. If we have something a little bit more compelling that I can’t get on offer in Wisconsin I would love to take you up on it if you are game. The reciprocal opportunity exists via MKE if you want/need.
Sorry for the late report, ups had some issues and delivery was delayed by a couple days. All is well though and I received this delicious rosé this afternoon.
After a quick chill, yum! I’m getting strawberry and fruit notes on the nose and clean strawberry flavor. Cold, light, refreshing, fruity deliciousness. All in all, I think anyone that enjoys rosé will like this wine. Not sweet or cloying but still fruity enough that I think it would also satisfy those that generally prefer a sweeter wine. I’m going to buy a case! Thanks again casemates for letting me taste this one!

I would have bought it if WI was on the list of the available states. No such luck.
@BurntEnd Ditto! The entire midwest is no-go on this offer (except for those Minnesota elites). wtf?
@baldwino0 @BurntEnd. I’m in SW Minneapolis and would be willing to order if you are ever in the Twin Cities to pick up.
