The unique climate of our Paso Robles vineyard allows us to ripen all of the Rhône varieties that go into this blend to perfection. This CdR is our expression of blends from the famous region of the Rhône Valley in France. CdR is a blend of four varieties: Petite Sirah (53%), Syrah (22%), Grenache (16%) and Viognier (9%). Viognier is, of course, a white variety but the grapes are co-fermented with Syrah to greatly enhance texture and mouth-feel in the wine.
Breathe in deeply the luscious floral bouquet and spices, both handed down by Petite Sirah and Syrah. The Grenache lends Bing cherry and red fruit flavors on the palate while the Viognier adds to the acidity and melds well with the supple tannins. The oak offers a subtle vanilla spice while the toast from the barrel adds caramel characteristics for you to enjoy at the end and even after the wine is gone.
The wine is deep garnet in color with aromas dominated by masses of fruit. Floral on the nose, red fruits with vanilla oak and a hint of spice, and a delicious lingering caramel taste to finish. It’s a beautifully balanced red that pairs wonderfully with pasta and a rich sauce.

@chipgreen Yes, but as the Rhone Rangers know, if you sit quietly and listen to your feelings, and your heart is pure, and you believe, Petite Sirah is a Rhone varietal. You have to look beyond French wine laws and what anyone actually grows in Côtes du Rhône. Listen to your Rhône heart, dangit.
Which works for me. I love Petit Sirah, and Syrah, and Grenache. Put 'em together, I say. By calling that “Côtes du Rhône”, I get to call my favorite varietals together a name with a fancy “ô” in it. What is a “ô”? I don’t know but clearly I’m sophisticated as hell if my favorite wine style has multiple weird lines in it.
So this is a Côtes du Rhône blend and I don’t want to hear any crap about it.
@emccafferty
That’s 0.59% RS and likely near or below the threshold of detection for many, generally considered to be ~1%. Now, if that were 5.9g/100ml, yeah, you’ll likely taste that…
@CruelMelody@emccafferty@rjquillin Well we could argue this all day, but 5.9 g/L puts it squarely in the “it’s getting to be off dry category”. How’s that for technical expertise. Yeah there’s tables that tell you 10 like Wine Folly but many seem to think that threshold is more in the 4-6 to range and I tend to agree.
This looks intriguing. discounted from what people on CT thought was a reasonably good deal anyway, and with some nice age on it, but apparently with a couple years (at least) of life left. And varietals I like. Any rats?
@wardad Probably no Rats because it’s not going to ship to anyone around here who typically reports.
It’s not even shipping to any of my neighbors in the tri-state area
@kaolis@ttboy23 Indeed. I just noticed no Virginia. Very sad.
But also good. My wife works very hard to not notice the cases of wine that barely fit into the (now two!) wine closets. Another case on top of the 3 I have in transit, and she might be forced to notice.
Sorry late to post was out of town & quick taste tonight due to busy schedule & unable to pair with food but think would be good with pizza/pasta maybe not bold for meats in my opinion.
On pnp nice ruby color. Red fruit on nose. Taste smooth light tannins. Red fruit, jammy, some spice & on the earthy side. Nice blend.
Felt went a little downhill as opened longer but at this price point good qpr for weeknight wine.
Thank you for the opportunity but for me have to pass & have to many recent case purchases recently. Happy holidays to all!
Thank you for the opportunity to taste the Broken Earth 2016 blend. I was also coming back from being out of town today and just tasted it with the wife, brother, and sister in law.
First impressions on pop and pour: chilled the wine to around 65F; light colored, nose initially was alcohol and strawberries. Got jam on the palate, acidity and spice, and a light oak finish. Tasting committee enjoyed the initial impresion. Had cheese, salami, and olives. Wine went well with salami and cheese but not with olives, perhaps too much acidity. We paired it with sautéed shrimp and arugula salad with shaved Parmesan. It wasn’t a perfect pairing but enjoyable nonetheless. We decanted the rest of the wine, with the strawberry and red cherry flavors became more clear, with spice and oak still at the end. Not a super complex offering, but enjoyable nonetheless with fat-containing fare. Creamy pasta dishes would pair well, or shrimp and grits. Solid light bodied QPR after seeing price.

@Springbank Craving daily dRinker!
A little winery blurb here:
fwiw and it’s not much
With 53% Petite Sirah, I have a little trouble accepting this as a “CdR blend”.
Just sayin’…

5.9g RS
Way too sweet for me
@emccafferty 0 - 10 g/L is standard for a dry red.

@emccafferty @kaolis @rjquillin wine folly is 0 - 17
@CruelMelody @emccafferty @rjquillin Apparently the editors there have a sweet tooth, or lack of one…ha!
EU standards:
Up to 4g/l… Dry / Sec
4 g/l – 12 g/l… Medium dry / demi-sec
12 g/l – 45 g/l…Medium (Medium sweet)
More than 45 g/l…weet / Doux
@CruelMelody @emccafferty @kaolis @rjquillin there’s a reason it’s called folly, LOL.

@ttboy23 @wardad Actually some of their offers look interesting but I have three possible ship to states and none are ever on the list.
@kaolis @ttboy23 Indeed. I just noticed no Virginia. Very sad.

Yup, this seems to happen all the time, good offers, that ship nowhere.

I was able to purchase a case of the Two Jakes of Diamonds mystery case. I am happy to do a Marin/SF share/split.
