@CorTot I can do all those other dates at this point.
The 27th is only a “possibly” out, so if that’s what works best for everybody else then go for that.
All else equal I’d vote for earlier since that leaves more time for more fun!
Can you get Kyle to make an appearance?
@klezman
I wish… although I did make it as far as Chicago for jmdavidson’s recent wine and appetizers party. I have heard rumors that back in the early wine.woot days, some CA wooters actually attended wine events in states other than their own!
Not just CA wooters … Cheron98 went to NoVA/DC, Buffalo, and Chicago. TommyTheCat, hitanykey, @ddeuddeg, and @bahwm also went to some. We might have had a slight competition going on how far and how many.
I don’t know what just happened; maybe I took too long to edit my other post. FWIW, we’ve been to “official tastings” in ten (10) states: CA, CO, CT, IL, MI, NV, NY, PA, OH, VA, plus the province of Ontario. For now, I’m defining “official tasting” as an event with wooters other than ourselves, possibly non-wooters as well, gathered for the express purpose of tasting wine, as well as enjoying food and each others’ company. Some of those were convened specifically because someone happened to be in town; for example, when edlada was visiting and we met up with him and chipgreen et al. in PA, or when we were visiting the Sisks and we got to meet a bunch of their friends in CO. We haven’t done a Casemates tasting yet, but I’m prepared to expand my definition once that happens.
@reesai Good question - it seems that the votes are roughly half and half between Oct 27 and Nov 3. FWIW, we’re now more likely than not to be in town for both, so our vote is closer to “don’t care”.
Let’s go with the original date October 27th.
Theme: Single vineyard Syrah’s
Food: We will provide a protein and a dessert.
Start time: 5pm.
Where: Glendora, CA
I’ll whisper out the address and my cell number the week of the gathering to everyone who’s confirmed they are coming.
@CorTot@losthighwayz I just discovered this thread. We can’t make it on the 27th, but could have on the 3rd. Please add me to the address book for future gatherings.
If I move this event to November 3rd is there anyone who can’t make it?
My previous accounting had shown more people wanted october 27th.
I don’t like excluding people but it’s also impossible to please everyone so bear with me.
I’ll second the third. First of all, for CJ, and since Klez was originally holding fourth that he couldn’t make the 27th, I’ve arranged to drink something obscure that day. (But not a fifth!)
@MarkDaSpark@CorTot
If you all decide to bump to the 3rd, I’ll plan to be there. But please be sure you are able to accommodate the most people! I’m just along for the ride…
It looks like we have a consensus on the date change. It included more people than it excludes.
New date: November 3rd.
Theme: Single vineyard Syrah’s
Food: We will provide a protein and a dessert.
Start time: 5pm.
Where: Glendora, CA
@CorTot@ScottW58 Oh, I have some…but most are either young or are things that we all have plenty of. I try to bring things that a different from normal woot wines to these shindigs! i.e. I could easily bring a Wellington single vineyard, from 2 vineyard options across like 5 vintages each. But don’t we all have all of those at home?
@klezman@ScottW58 If you don’t want to bring the wellingtons then go for something young and decant it before bringing it over. Or just bring anything you want. I like themes but I wont throw you out for not bringing a theme appropriate bottle
@CorTot@MarkDaSpark - I am so sorry, but I will need to drop out. Work plans have shifted, and I’m now going to be on a redeye to Indianapolis on Thursday night. (Amazingly, there actually is a redeye to Indy!) Field exercise that I’m joining in progress.
It’s great to be needed, but I wish I was needed a smidge less…
We are getting a bit closer here and wanted to start firming up some details and a head count.
Start time is 5pm, people tend to trickle in so I’ll put the sandwiches out closer to 6:30-7. Our house isn’t huge so we will more than likely be out in the back. So maybe bring a jacket.
Food: We are providing beef deep sandwiches and dessert or 2.
Wine: I’ll have at least one syrah and a white wine or rose open.
Please bring some sort of food to share and a bottle of wine, the theme is single vineyard syrahs but you don’t have to limit yourself there. My wife drinks mostly white and roses so you cant go wrong with that.
Let me know you’re coming and I’ll whisper the address to you and a phone number.
@CorTot
In but don’t know what food I’m bringing? Will be golfing all morning so won’t be able to do tri-tip you will be lucky if I will have time to get a bag of chips
@CorTot
At least one of us will be there! There’s potential for the little one to join in, although he’s restricted to only sniff the wine (Do let us know if that would pose a problem of any sort and we’ll adjust.)
No idea what we’ll bring…we do tend to like getting random tasty hors d’oeuvre type things that we cook on arrival.
Other important question - who do I have wine for? I still have a case of some HM Zin and a few other goodies. Antidote for Scott. Not sure who gets all the Zin, though.
Sparky and Ron still have wine for me. We can sync up via email.
Just throwing this out there but are there any cases that were purchased that were never split but anyone who is showing up Saturday wouldn’t mind splitting? Sadly I missed out on wine smith not that i’m implying anything
4 – Baker Lane Syrah for cortot (pay to Ron)
Same for Ron if he is coming
My notes suggest my four of that order go to Klez.
And Klez may still have 4 Harvest Moon Zin I had delivered to him for Cortot, if not already delivered.
Cortot may still have 3 Stillman mixed for Klez.
I’ve got some TO Spaniard to deliver, Klez 3 and Cortot 2
And to Klez 4 WS Meritage (just arrived) and 6 HM RRV PN.
The HM Zin appears to be over-allocated if 4 are for Ron, 4 for me, 4 for Cory, and 2 for Bill. I’m leaving 3 here for Ron and bringing the remaining 5 unless I’m old otherwise. If I need to drop down to three from four, that’s fine…I’ll just swap it to Ron’s pile in that case.
Teldeschi not in the first small locker. Not this trip.
Could have sworn they were in that one. Other one next to it is full too, but no time remaining to look. Off to visit granddaughter before feeding grandkittens.
@merrybill@rjquillin Yeah, I’m bringing that whole case since it’s all for distribution afaik. I think some may be for Ron, though…how many? I’ll leave those at home.
Got a 2012 Halcon Syrah…might throw in a non-red at the last minute, we’ll see what molarchae says.
Some meatballs w/tomato sauce, then some spanakopita
@klezman Ohh Halcon good idea, I will bring a mag of 09 or 10 or maybe both since I don’t have time to do any food You might have plenty of leftovers! And a 98 Baumard dessert wine
Grand total was 20 bottles killed. 2 were mags though and I rebottled a couple into 375s. Nice work everyone!
I’ll post a list of the dead tomorrow when I’m Vertical again.
Great time and good to see everyone again! Man the food was fantastic and the wines we’re awesome too. Winner Campasino for me. Swmbotot really knows how to throw a party
Just got the shipping notice this morning for my ‘club’ shipment. Not that I’m in the club, but I guess I must have purchased a case of something Paul was holding for me.
Found it:
4 x 2017 Bearwallow, 4 x 2016 Elevacion, 2 x 2016 Petite, 2 x 2016 Alturas
We had a great time as always! Great to see familiar faces and a few new ones. Beautiful home and awesome hosts! WOTN for me was the 2009 Alturas followed by the Campesino. The rat bottle wasn’t too shabby either!
Thank you cortot for hosting and being very welcoming. The wife and I had a great time tasting new wines and having interesting conversations with everyone.
@CorTot What a great evening. Gracious hosts, interesting company, a beautiful house, and wonderful weather all came together perfectly. I think the Syrah theme worked well, mainly because its such a versatile grape that all the wines were different. Thanks so much.
October 27? That date is iffy since molarchae and/or I are likely out of town. Good job picking the one Saturday in October that’s likely a problem!
@klezman 10-4 good buddy!
Last three weeks in October are good for us.
@cortot Please make sure to email me when you confirm a final date so we can send a couple of Lab Rat bottles to the gathering!
@arianaWCC of course.
Since Klez can’t do oct 27th, I’ll also offer up nov 3rd as an option.
@CorTot I can do all those other dates at this point.
The 27th is only a “possibly” out, so if that’s what works best for everybody else then go for that.
All else equal I’d vote for earlier since that leaves more time for more fun!
Can you get Kyle to make an appearance?
@klezman I’ll work on him, hes only a few blocks away…
We have October 13, 27, and November 3rd open
@losthighwayz nice.
Lets get a vote
Oct 27th or Nov. 3rd?
@klezman @ScottW58 @Markdaspark @javadrinker @rjquillin @losthighwayz @funnywontons, @connorbush, @merrybill
also please tag anyone whose screen name i have not included so they see this thread.
thanks
@CorTot 27th at the moment. I will update/confirm once the date is closer.
@CorTot Nov 3
@CorTot Oh can my wife and I join as well?
@i8dacat of course.
@CorTot
27th
@TimothyB
@CorTot I wasnt tagged. Im in long beach. Oct 27
27th
November 3
@chipgreen
@chipgreen
Oh, hai! If it’s the 27th I won’t be able to make it but if it’s the 3rd I still can’t.
@chipgreen Thank you for your update. We couldnt do it without you.
/giphy useless
@CorTot
I sneeze in your general direction!
@chipgreen Now if you were to make a trip down here we would certainly organise something around your schedule!
@chipgreen
/giphy fart-general-direction
@klezman
I wish… although I did make it as far as Chicago for jmdavidson’s recent wine and appetizers party. I have heard rumors that back in the early wine.woot days, some CA wooters actually attended wine events in states other than their own!
@chipgreen @klezman But only in ship-to states.
@chipgreen @klezman
Not just CA wooters … Cheron98 went to NoVA/DC, Buffalo, and Chicago. TommyTheCat, hitanykey, @ddeuddeg, and @bahwm also went to some. We might have had a slight competition going on how far and how many.
@bahwm @chipgreen @klezman @MarkDaSpark I had no idea there was a competition.
@bahwm @chipgreen @ddeuddeg @klezman
Mostly I think it was cheron, jwhite, and I.
And IIRC, there was a mileage spreadsheet.
I don’t know what just happened; maybe I took too long to edit my other post. FWIW, we’ve been to “official tastings” in ten (10) states: CA, CO, CT, IL, MI, NV, NY, PA, OH, VA, plus the province of Ontario. What’s the current (tentative) date?
@reesai Good question - it seems that the votes are roughly half and half between Oct 27 and Nov 3. FWIW, we’re now more likely than not to be in town for both, so our vote is closer to “don’t care”.
@reesai, @klezman, @rjquillin @losthighwayz @ScottW58 @TimothyB @i8dacat @cmerino @MarkDaSpark @merrybill @connorbush @funnywontons @javadrinker @arianaWCC @swmbotott

I’ll whisper out the address and my cell number the week of the gathering to everyone who’s confirmed they are coming.
Looking forward to it.
PS. More than likely no Kyle
@CorTot
Yeah Kyle seems to be a full time berserker now buying tons of Champagne and even dabbling in Burgundy
@ScottW58 With three kids he’s also very busy…
@CorTot Lame excuse!
@CorTot @ScottW58 Seriously! He’s only a couple blocks away…shouldn’t he just come over for a bit anyway? Or better yet…send his lovely wife!
@CorTot @ScottW58 Are there bio-dynamic burgundies?
@ScottW58 @TimothyB No!
Checking with the Mrs on the calendar and availability. Thank you for organizing! Whisper me an address in case can’t come so I can ship a surprise!
Do either Shiraz or Petite Syrah also qualify?
@rjquillin
Shiraz should be fine, but while I love PS, the theme is Single Vineyard Syrah.
@rjquillin what mark said.
If you find a bottle actually labeled petite Syrah I’ll allow it. But it can’t be rose of petite Syrah from 1975.
@CorTot @rjquillin don’t underestimate rjq he might have a rose from 1968 that’s as black as night and you won’t know it’s not syrah
@CorTot @ScottW58 Gotta lub youse guyse.
Looks like we will miss this one. Suckage! Having our annual Halloween block party on this day.
@losthighwayz bummer!
@CorTot @losthighwayz I just discovered this thread. We can’t make it on the 27th, but could have on the 3rd. Please add me to the address book for future gatherings.
@davirom @losthighwayz will do!
@cjsiege will be here on the 3rd from back east. Maybe we should move from the 27th to the 3rd?
Especially since we’ve lost highwayz ( ) and @davirom could make it.
@MarkDaSpark that would be awesome!
@MarkDaSpark @reesai, @klezman, @rjquillin @losthighwayz @ScottW58 @TimothyB @i8dacat @cmerino @MarkDaSpark @merrybill @connorbush @funnywontons @javadrinker @arianaWCC @swmbotott

I think we are fine either weekend, subject to the always-interesting issue of what to do with the little one.
I’ll second the third. First of all, for CJ, and since Klez was originally holding fourth that he couldn’t make the 27th, I’ve arranged to drink something obscure that day. (But not a fifth!)
(And I forgot to ‘@’ CorTot above - I hope a sixth sense causes him to see that post.)
@MarkDaSpark @CorTot
If you all decide to bump to the 3rd, I’ll plan to be there. But please be sure you are able to accommodate the most people! I’m just along for the ride…
I think Merbill said he could make it on then 3rd as well
Either of those dates would have worked for us. We’re game for two weekends
I can’t do the 3rd, have tickets to Dear Evan Hanson. Sorry!
@reesai
It looks like we have a consensus on the date change. It included more people than it excludes.
New date: November 3rd.
Theme: Single vineyard Syrah’s
Food: We will provide a protein and a dessert.
Start time: 5pm.
Where: Glendora, CA
@MarkDaSpark @reesai, @klezman, @rjquillin @losthighwayz @ScottW58 @TimothyB @i8dacat @cmerino @MarkDaSpark @merrybill @connorbush @funnywontons @javadrinker @arianaWCC @swmbotott
@davirom @cjsiege
@CorTot It’s on the calendar in its new position! The harder part will be finding a single vineyard Syrah that’s ready to drink!
@klezman just buy today’s offer!
@CorTot @klezman
What!? No single vineyard syrahs, you should be ashamed
@klezman @ScottW58 he focus’s mostly on yak juice.
@CorTot @ScottW58 Oh, I have some…but most are either young or are things that we all have plenty of. I try to bring things that a different from normal woot wines to these shindigs! i.e. I could easily bring a Wellington single vineyard, from 2 vineyard options across like 5 vintages each. @CorTot dibs on bringing a Buena Vista Ramal Vineyard - anyone remember the Count in the loft on the first RPM tour?
@CorTot @TimothyB The white or black label?
Screw or cork?
@CorTot @rjquillin black, cork - heavy bottle, though not as heavy as, say, a Twisted oak The Spaniard.
@TimothyB
whisper above…
@chipgreen @TimothyB Tim sayz: I’m on the road to Napa. Is this like the old WW you have a PM message, message?
@rjquillin @TimothyB
Haha, exactly. It was a whisper about Madeira on sale at HDHwine.com. I knew he liked Madeira, so thought I would share the info.
Sorry. I’m out. Seeing Dear Evan Hansen that night!
@reesai Next time then!
Thank y’all for moving the date. We will bring a side dish
@CorTot @MarkDaSpark - I am so sorry, but I will need to drop out. Work plans have shifted, and I’m now going to be on a redeye to Indianapolis on Thursday night. (Amazingly, there actually is a redeye to Indy!) Field exercise that I’m joining in progress.
It’s great to be needed, but I wish I was needed a smidge less…
@cjsiege Boo
But if you want to stop by and see those of us who are closer to LAX, you are welcome to.
@cjsiege well, that’s a bummer!
Next time then…
Hey hey. Room for one more? I realized my family has theatre tickets without me, so I’d love to join.
@radiolysis of course. Look for additional details and a bit of cordination next week.
The more the merrier!
@MarkDaSpark @klezman, @rjquillin @losthighwayz @ScottW58 @TimothyB @i8dacat @cmerino @MarkDaSpark @merrybill @connorbush @funnywontons @javadrinker @arianaWCC @swmbotott

Let me know you’re coming and I’ll whisper the address to you and a phone number.
@CorTot I will be there, +1. We will bring a hearty side dish. BTW, will there be a plug available if we bring a crock pot?
@davirom Good deal, yes there are lots of plugs!
@CorTot
In but don’t know what food I’m bringing? Will be golfing all morning so won’t be able to do tri-tip you will be lucky if I will have time to get a bag of chips
@CorTot In! Got the single vineyard Syrah ready to go, just need to figure out a food that will travel.
@CorTot Got a nice SV Syrah, so that’s covered.
Maybe my fruit salad or cheeses. Or macaroni salad.
@CorTot I will be there
We are looking forward to Seeing you all on Saturday!
@ScottW58, we are just glad you can make it!
@CorTot
@CorTot @SWMBOTott
You my dear are the best!
Umm not you Cory.
@ScottW58
@CorTot @davirom I think he may really need a socket/outlet for his plug; likely 117VAC/60Hz/15A or so.
@CorTot I’m in +1. Not sure what food we’ll bring, but I sure do hope to pair it well with the theme of the night.
@rjquillin Ron are you actually going to make it? Should I send you the list of pendings? Or have you still not taken any delivery from Monica?
@CorTot Let Sparky know - he’s my ride.
@TimothyB Done.
@klezman Currently doubtful, but things tend to change rapidly and with little warning.
For those coming, wine country connect is sending a couple bottles.
@CorTot A couple bottles for each of us who are coming?!? Wow!
Just throwing this out there but are there any cases that were purchased that were never split but anyone who is showing up Saturday wouldn’t mind splitting? Sadly I missed out on wine smith not that i’m implying anything
@i8dacat same here!
I have wine for cortot and davirom.
anyone have anything for me?
Well, I should be able to bring the following:
Same for Ron if he is coming
Still need to dig for MerryBill’s stuff!
@MarkDaSpark I have you noted down as having for me 4 bottles of 2013 Iron Horse Unoaked from Ron’s piles in addition to the Teldeschi.
@MarkDaSpark I have 2 Dry Creek Vineyard Petite Sirah’s for you. I hope you can find my Turleys (2014 Judge Bell Zin and Pesenti PS).
@klezman
Have to check, but I thought I brought Ron’s box of those a while back? But no time tomorrow to look.
But if it’s there, they’re safe. Buried, but safe. When Tim got his own walk-in, boxes got moved around.
@merrybill
Keep forgetting to look for them. Will add it to the list like Klez’s (for next fathering).
@merrybill gathering.
@klezman @MarkDaSpark
Yeah, at some point it would be good to unearth that case of IH chard for distribution.
This is that case+ you picked up for me at a Wine Web
15 (750ml) purchased from WebWine on 8/31/2015
Cost Per Bottle: $15.71, Purchase note: order #007125
@klezman @rjquillin
Yes, but I thought I delivered that 1 or 2 years ago to Adam.
And are you making it up?
@MarkDaSpark @davirom
Actually, I think we already split and you paid. Will keep an eye out while grabbing bottles now.
@MarkDaSpark @klezman
@merrybill
2015 Turley’s found. Payment expected.
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @merbill @cortot
Nope, no Baker Lane Syrah for us.
@klezman
Teldeschi not in the first small locker. Not this trip.
Could have sworn they were in that one. Other one next to it is full too, but no time remaining to look. Off to visit granddaughter before feeding grandkittens.
@MarkDaSpark I’m sure one of these years you’ll find it
@CorTot @klezman @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin I think I only have 1 bottle, and it came out of Ron’s allocation.
@klezman
If I start looking 1 month before the next gathering!
Instead of hours before!
I have no wine for anybody and really looking forward to tomorrow, I mean other than the drive which is halfway to Vegas
@ScottW58 we are too!
@radiolysis
Confirmed yes
Cortot & swmbotott
Mark
Jeff and Meghan
Klez & molarche
Scott
Radiolysis + 1
Tim
I8dacat + 1
Daviron + 1
So 15 total. There were a few maybes but those typically become no’s.
If Anyone is snobby on glasses you might want to bring some. I have plenty but not all are equal.
@CorTot Some maybe’s become yes’s too.
@merrybill he speaks!
Tim and I should arrive between 6:30 & 7:00pm. Cat feeding duties at Son’s first.
So cheeses, meats, crackers, and a dessert.
Along with one or more dessert wines with the Syrah.
In case there’s an arrival betting pool.
@MarkDaSpark good on ya!
Looking forward to seeing you guys.
@MarkDaSpark over/under 7:30pm. I’ll take the over!
@losthighwayz
Wine country connect shipped a baker lane syrah for the tasting and a rat bottle that goes up next week.
I guess I’d better pick a wine, eh?
@klezman @rjquillin Klez, looking at my trade notes, I think you have a 2012 Harvest Moon RRV Zin from Ron that’s for me.
@klezman your Canadian is showing!
@merrybill @rjquillin Yeah, I’m bringing that whole case since it’s all for distribution afaik.
Lost +1 wil be there. Bringing a red and rose + baby back ribs, cole slaw, potato salad, and corn salad
@losthighwayz lol, you’re bringing a whole picnic!
looking forward to seeing you and you’re better half.
@CorTot @losthighwayz
“Your”
@MarkDaSpark uninvited.
@CorTot @MarkDaSpark
I’m currently smoking some spare ribs i plan on bringing.
ETA for me is a little after six.
@radiolysis You bringing the Oakville Station?
FYI, the 210 East looks miserable. sorry folks.
@CorTot every damn freeway is awful! When are you moving closer
Closer, as in from San Diego?
You and Klez are lucky to be so close,
as are Tim and MdS.
Lots of delicious wine! Lots of fantastic food! Thank you all (and especially cortot and his lovely better half) for putting up with our toddler, too!
@ScottW58 Sangiacomo Old Lakeville?
which vintage?
@rjquillin @ScottW58
Las Madres vineyard
Those halcon mags were drinkin real well.
@CorTot @ScottW58 I think the 09 Halcon was my favorite for the night. Thanks for bringing that, Scott!
@CorTot @ScottW58 @radiolysis
Not sure I even looked?
@CorTot If anyone has issue with their likeness being shown here let me know and I’ll ask for a deletion.
@CorTot I don’t remember seeing a drone fly over…
You guys did a great job tiring our kiddo out! He slept 14 hours - he just woke up!!
@klezman Its always fun seeing someone else’s kid enjoy all the toys your kids now take for granted. I’m glad you guys were able to make it.
Oh and thanks to i8dacat for making the ribs delicious! And I just like saying i8dacat
@ScottW58 Yeah, those were some excellent ribs. Kudos!
We had a great time as always! Great to see familiar faces and a few new ones. Beautiful home and awesome hosts! WOTN for me was the 2009 Alturas followed by the Campesino. The rat bottle wasn’t too shabby either!
Finally, I won the Sparky bet! Lol
@cortot @SWMBOTott Thank you both for hosting. We had a wonderful time at your lovely home. Also thanks to the other guests who brought food and booze.
Great turnout! And you guys did some serious damage to a lot of bottles. Pretty proud of the entire lot.
