Tasting Notes
Beautiful cherry-red colour with pink highlights. The rich and complex nose displays hints of vanilla and oak, combined with caramel and coffee notes, alongside balsamic and liquorice aromas. Swirling in the glass unveils overtones of sweet spices. Starts out full-bodied on the palate, accompanied by smooth, elegant tannins, and roasted overtones of stewed prune come through on the lovely long aftertaste.
Climate Conditions of the Vintage
The winter of 2014-2015 was one of the sweetest of the last thirty years. The cold has yet settled for a month with 14 days of frost in February. The month of March was less watered than normal, followed by very good conditions in April with a regular bud break. The warmer and cooler periods alternated until the blossoming. The hot summer was punctuated by substantial rains after August 21, causing a rise in the berries. September was dry but without excessive heat and October, just as sunny, completed the last phase of maturation by improving the extraction of colored compounds without excessive loss of acidity.
Château Bois Mondont Saint-Germain, recognized Cru Bourgeois, is a property in its own right that benefits from the know-how of the Château Castera team. Château Bois Mondont Saint-Germain Cru Bourgeois du Médoc has its vineyard located in the commune of Saint-Germain d’Esteuil. It bears on its label the image of a magnificent deer that inhabits our forests.
Thomas C. Press, son of Carl E. Press, took over management of the estate in 2008. He has breathed a new dynamic into Château Castera, with emphasis on quality control measures (the selection of vineyard plots and meticulous sorting of the grapes) and on enhancement of the château’s already fine reputation.
Distributed in over twenty countries around the world, Château Castera is one of the leading “Crus Bourgeois”.

Nice dark brown cork with dark plum staining. Minimal penetration, some crystal. Wine is somewhat
light in the glass, burgundy with a brownish edge. On Pop n’ pour the wine smells light and bright, fresh
red raspberries with a hint of a bassy low note, like chocolate covered cherries. There are also tertiary
aromas like cigar box and forest floor. Tremendous depth in the nose. Hmmm. The palate is a bit
unexpected considering the nose. I was primed for fruit but it is medium bodied, balanced claret. Not
bad just… surprising. Tannins taste fully resolved, and the wine is balanced if a little on the tart side.
My wife thought the dominant note on the nose was sour cherry, hint of something musky like new
leather and allspice. On the palate raisin, something tart like a good balsamic vinegar (with emphasis on
the balsamic, not vinegar in a bad way), earthy with a touch of leather. Its not bad, but she prefers
more fruit on the palate. Almost tastes like a wine that has aged all the fruit out of it.
After several hours and significant swirling, this wine has really opened up. The nose is more graphite
and violets with a touch of shoe leather. The palate is full and rich with more texture than before. In
addition to rich dried fruit and touch of dried herb, there is something more floral on the tongue. Tastes
like a completely different wine.
After a night out on the counter, the flavors have really come into focus. The nose is leather and baking
spice, the palate is dusty and chalky, rich and full with brown sugar, toasted pecans and a touch of dark
fruit, like plums or dates. This is such a fantastic wine, I’m so glad I got the chance to taste it. Buy a case
and lay it down or decant heavily if you can’t wait. Many thanks to the Boys in Brown for delivering yet
again, to Chateau Bois Mondont for making a fantastic wine, and to Alice and WCC for giving me the
chance to taste this fantastic wine. Salut!

2015 Château Bois Mondont Saint-Germain - $30 = 15.00%
Still showing its wood aging, this wine is packed with black-currant fruits, firm tannins as well as layers of acidity and fruitiness. The high proportion of Merlot gives the wine a delicious juicy character that will develop further as it ages. Drink from 2022. — Roger Voss 9/1/18
TLDR: Maybe I received a bad bottle. Overall okay-to-good but had a damp/musty smell that was off-putting preventing much enjoyment.
Pop’d bottle, poured 2 glasses, and let it sit for ~2 hours before tasting
Pale Ruby in color
ABV pronounced on the nose but dissipates with time. Cedar, cranraisin, bramble and dark cherry (slight damp/musty)
Grippy medium tannins
Medium long finish
Finished first glass to get notes, but couldn’t get past the slight musty damp smell. Cork looked good, and did not show any obvious defects. Wife liked the wine, and enjoyed a second glass. Would have pegged it at $16-18 retail

A truthful Rat is a good Rat.
@KingKoopa @rjquillin Sounds like you got a corked bottle. One way or another an off bottle. Bummer.
In for half a case.
