Nice clean, fruit-forward nose, delicate and smooth in the mouth with herbs, honey, white flowers, and gingerbread aromas. Weighty and quite complex in the mouth with good acidity and minerality, nice and balanced on the finish.
Extended skin maceration, while not the norm for Bordeaux Blanc, gives this wine unique weight and color along with distinctive honey notes on the palate. Organically grown grapes from estate vineyards owned by Christophe Pont with clay and limestone soils. ‘Demoiselle’ means “damsel” in English.
Elaboration: Grapes are hand-picked in small boxes for delivery to the winery. Grapes are pressed, left to sit on the skins for several hours, and fermented with native yeast in stainless steel tanks with temperature control. Conservation: Unoaked

About The Winery
Winery: Château Val Beylie
Location: Mérignas, France
This small hillside estate is situated in Merignas, just across the Dordogne River from the Saint Emilion appellation boundary. While the soil and climate here are essentially the same as Merignas’ famous neighbor to the North, the culture cannot be different. Upon pulling up to the Chateau entrance expect to see children jumping on a trampoline, wooden swings cleverly wedged between Acacia trees, hand-sewn clothes drying in the sun, and pets of all shapes and sizes bounding about. The vines here may not be perfectly manicured, but they are pulsing with life – The air is loud with insect calls and flowers of all colors shoot up from the wild grass below the estate’s organically farmed vines. Christophe Pont runs all aspects of this operation with his own bare hands. The ten-acre spread of Val Beylie is large enough to feed the family and small enough to avoid the need for employees – Just the right size for a man driven to keep life simple and fulfilling.

What a lovely unctuous wine this is. I was very excited to try a bordeaux blanc that wasn’t sauterne, as I was interested to see it au naturale, so to speak.
However, if I hadn’t know what it was, I would have sworn this wine was Californian because stylistically, it leans into being plush and ripe. While there is minerality on the nose, the wine is also flush with the aromas of ripe stonefruit and a hint of something tropical. It follows this up with some deep fruit (green apple, maybe?) and a last kick of citrus. Where this wine really shines is in the wide, broad, and super fat middle, presumably thanks to the semillion. It elevates the wine up to something quite addictive.
This a very soft and glouglou wine. With a just a tad more acidity, it would pair well with a lot of foods (soft cheeses, blue cheese, scallops, risotto, etc) but I think as is it is best had on its own.
Honestly, the worst thing about this is that it is so cheap. When French winemakers can make wines this lovely and with this much of the new world’s trademark ripeness, it is much harder for our local hard working winemakers to stay in business
@novium Thanks for the notes! Sounds like a delicious Graves-style white wine, from the large Entre-Deux-Mers appellation only about 20-25 miles east of Pessac-Léognan.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?

I think I’ve got to jump on this. You can find some fantastic value from Entre-Deux-Mers, the large appellation that sits between Pessac-Léognan/Graves and Saint-Emilion. I’d highlight this wine’s proximity to Graves, personally, as it is a Graves-style dry white (Sem-Sauv). Sounds like a great summer sipper with light appetizers, cheese, sushi, etc. when you want an alternative to rosé.

This sounds delicious but I’ve bought so much wine (and other things) lately.
Well bummer! Cases are gone? Any chance of a refresh on those? Cheers!
