This offer includes two incredible wines that showcase the diversity and quality of Paso Robles, CA as a wine region. Both wines were 100% hand-picked off our estate Red Cedar Vineyard and were made in very limited quantities, sold primarily to the wine club and out of the tasting room. With some age on these wines, youâll be able to really appreciate the complexity of flavors and structure.
2013 Clayhouse Estate Tempranillo, Paso Robles, Red Cedar Vineyard
Tasting Notes
The Estate Tempranillo has been blended with 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Syrah, and 1% Tannat to create a wine that is full-bodied with concentrated juicy sweet black plum fruit flavors. Aromas of plum, leather and black cherry on the nose with gripping tannins and a finish of roasted coffee notes. The Tempranillo grape is a sturdy one that does particularly well in Paso Roblesâ hot summer days.
Vineyard and Winemaker Notes
Warm and long growing season but relativly mild summer for Paso Robles. Yields were low to average producing an intense concentrated vintage with expressive big fruit flavors and dense tannins.

2013 Clayhouse Estate Own-Rooted Cabernet Sauvignon Red Cedar Vineyard, Paso Robles
Tasting Notes
The Own-Rooted Cabernet Sauvignon was grown on its original Vitis Vinifera roots creating a wine with pure fruit flavors and bright acidity that provides a juiciness that makes it a balanced unobtrusive food wine. With aromas of ripe black cherry, tobacco and sweet cinnamon stick, the wine has black current and Bing cherry fruit flavors and a smooth mouthfeel. The finish has a soft warmth that lingers with the texture of the mellowed tannins.
Our family has been working the land since 1898, when we started a lumber business in Aberdeen, on the coast of Washington State. We began with lumber and forestry, and have thoughtfully and gradually expanded our family business to include table grapes, wine grapes, and wine.
Today our businesses are at home in Olympia, Washington (our company headquarters); Hoquiam, Washington; Walla Walla, Washington; Delano, California; and Paso Robles, California.
Because weâve had five generations in the family business, weâre interested in building things that will last, for the fifth, sixth, seventh generations, and beyond.

2013 Clayhouse Mixed Reds - $55 = 33.32%
Wrote this Saturday night - Tossed in our wine fridge on Friday and opened up Saturday after dinner. Let the open bottle sit on the counter for ~20 minutes while we packed for Disney. Once I reminded DW that we need to review this wine her first response was 'delicious - this will go great with packingâ - next thing I know she was asking for a refill.
Drank a bit sweeter than Iâm used to for a Cab Sauv but still wouldnât classify it as a sweet wine. Also didnât taste like a 15% wine to me - maybe the sweetness hid the alcohol perhaps. Very drinkable!
Didnât get a chance to pair with food. Tonight was really the only chance we had to drink and it was daddy / daughter date night at Chick-Fil-A and since weâre at for Disney for a week the fridge was sparse.
Typed this without knowing the offer price but based on Google this will be a must-buy for me. (updated: definitely a purchase for me)
A minor note for the lab rat shipping team - worth taking note where people usually have items shipped to. I have only ever shipped wine to my office but the lab rat bottle arrived at my house. Since someone has to be home the wine didnât get delivered on the first attempt.
@aliengar0 For most of my wine shipments, I go to FedEx online and change the delivery to be held at a FedEx location (which can be many local businesses, such as Walgreens).
This is a rare offer that ships to IL but not MO. Taking advantage of still being in IL (and having an $8 discount code to burn doesnât hurt, either!).

Brought this bottle with me to a dinner party last night. First thing I want to say is that everyone really enjoyed it. Quotes from the evening include: âDelishâ, âDelightfulâ, and âThat is one easy drinking wine.â I was expecting the 4 bottle version to cost in the low 20s per bottle. At this price it is definitely worth buying and keeping on hand as a house red.
With that said, the wine is light in color and body for a CA Cab and definitely more on the fruity side. This is a wine to drink now, not to cellar. It seems very well balanced but it has a short finish. On first opening, aromas of current filled my senses mellowing into darker fruits and eventually notes of fig and chocolate. On the palate dark cherries seemed to be the closest approximation with a touch of blackberries and dates. Paired with a Latin Chicken stew it went well, but probably is not the bottle to open with that filet youâve been meaning to grill.
I agree with the sentiment of the evening that it is a vey easy drinking wine. The kind you open up with some friends and disappears before you know it.
Checked my inventory that shows that I still have some of this Cab. Old site had it 2/29/17 and arrived 1/12/18. Have 2 btls left. Also have 7 btls left from a case of Adobe White, but no reviews.
I finally found the bottles that I thought were the same as this offer, but what I have from Clayhouse is their Cabernet Sauvignon Blend: 82% Cab Sauv, 14% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec from Red Cedar Vineyard, Paso Robles. I popped the cork last night and it has developed nicely with what seems to be similar in aroma and taste as stated in the Winemakerâs notes for the 100% Cab offered now! The old site price was similar to the 4 bottle price, so the case price here seems to be a very nice price! FWIW.
As a bonus for me, I found a Clayhouse Red Blend 92% Syrah, 6% Petite Sirah, and 2% Viogner that wasnât in my database. If I didnât have so much wine in the basement and Casemates splits in-process, Iâd be jumping in on this.
@Boatman72 I still have 7 of that Cab blend, my work friends have been slow to pick up on that one. I wish I could trade for a couple of the Tempranillos from the current offer, or even sell a few, outright. (NYC peeps, talk to me!)
As a few of you long time Wooters know, Mill canât typeâbut, he is a great drinker of quality wine. His unsolicited Golden Ticket arrived just before he was leaving for a week, so he took it with him. He just called me with his impressions. He said is was a decent wine for the case price. It is slightly sweet but very drinkable, with or without food.
@pseudogourmet98 A rare sighting, indeed! My impression, from when we could see who the first wooter was on a particular offer, was that he tended to go for the higher-end wines.
@Boatman72@mill01@pseudogourmet98 Mill was always my deciding factor when I was trying to decide to go for it or not-have missed seeing him as the âfirst suckerâ. Going with this based on Mill.
Clayhouse is one of my all-time favorites. Have never been disappointed. Very impressed with every one Iâve got on here. Still have some 2012 magnums in the cellar. For the price, the value is hard to beat. A great EDC wine for sure! Iâm in for two cases. Keep em coming folks.
@lionel47 by the time you get it you would likely be well on your way to ketosis and the average red bottle is around 20g of carbs so just make the bottle your carbs for the day.
@gstigall Thanks for the advice. What Iâm finding tough is that just about everything has carbs. I am having keto meatloaf for lunch and thatâs 4g carbs right there.
My only consolation is that Bourbon and whiskey have no carbs. But, I prefer wine andâŠoh wellâŠyou know what they say about complaining: âHalf the people donât care and the other half are happy you have problems.â
Just received our shipment today and tucked in. There was a large amount of sediment on the cork and shoulder of the bottle, and apparent line indicating it had been stored upright for quite a while. Anyone else have the same issue?
@f263u The Tempranillo that I got had apparently been stored cork-down for quite a while; there was a lot of sediment on the cork, and some washed out of the neck of the bottle into the first glass. But itâs fairly heavy, and settles to the bottom quickly. The wine sure is good-- I should have ordered two cases. Havenât tried the Cab yet.
@f263u We had the sediment too on the cork and bottle. But we opened our first bottle tonight and Iâd say it was pretty good. Happy with my purchase.
@cutiecupid15@f263u@DickL
I find that this filtered pour spout works great at eliminating all but the finest sediment. It also is handy for broken corks. Instead of trying to wrangle the rest of the cork from the bottle, just push it in and use this filter.
@chipgreen Thanks for the info, but the sediment in this isnât really a problem. I normally use a two-prong cork puller, so very rarely have a broken cork, even on older bottles. On very soft corks, I use a long construction screw to hold them together and push the prongs down at right angles to the screw. Usually works like a charm.
BTW, just finished the last of a bottle of the Cab from this offer. Pretty good wine and a wild price-performer. Amazing stuff for the price.

Enjoyed Clayhouse reds from the âoldâ website - still have a double magnum of Adobe red in basement. In for a case based on this and rattage!

@hershelk and aliengar0 - thanks for the rat reports - very helpful
Did any Rats get the Tempranillo?? Seems like we got two nice reviews on the Cab.

@Boatman72 @InFrom come on, weâre not thAt badâŠ

I want to get a case of this but I am just out of room. Not to mention, my newly engaged keto diet frowns upon such beverages.
Gonna go weep in a corner and pass on this one.
