A structured and balanced Cabernet Sauvignon from three prestigious California wine regions-each lending their own unique characteristics-to provide a Cabernet that is sure to create a following. We believe a handcrafted cabernet should be cultivated through terroir knowledge, blending expertise and barrel selection. CULT was developed for restaurants and wine merchants to provide their customers with a fantastic Cabernet at a fair price. We hope you agree.
Our Cult Cabernet opens with a mélange of baking spices including cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and cocoa powder. Savory and fruit-forward, this medium-bodied Cab features notes of black cherry, raspberry, blood orange peel, cola, and forest floor. The palate boasts chalky, refined tannins and smoothness throughout, finishing long. A touch of vanilla can be found on the finish.

2017 CULT Cabernet Sauvignon - $22 = 15.70%
@danandlisa the last one i bought on here was the 2016. i liked it, and i am ordering a case now. that being said, i am by no means an aficionado, so i can’t offer any insight into any specifics. but i know what i like, and i liked this one. lol
@danandlisa Saw your post so popped that synthetic cork. Good wine. Especially for the price. Light colored for a cab. Nothing stands out, medium sweet, medium tannins, medium body, medium finish. Opens up the second day which makes me wonder how it will drink in 5 years. I’ll re-order.
@danandlisa I order a case of the 16 and this offer is the 17. Solid QPR, to compare it I’d say the Martin Ray was better and a little more expensive, some of the Moran Manor bottles were much better, but some of those were slightly off. The 16 Cult is what Casemates QPR should have been, again I only ordered the 1st QPR rendition and that was enough. I’m not ordering this manly because it isn’t interesting enough for me. Plenty of wine in the old cellar.
On first pour there was a not unpleasant mild fruity fragrance. Fairly transparent for a Cab. Not a particularly dense looking wine. On first taste, I got light fruit flavors, a sweetish affect (without really being sweet at all). No tannic grab here. No wood. A handsome front label, looks like it should be more expensive than it is.
This reminded me of the 2016 Fetzer “Anniversary Reserve” Cab. I opened a bottle of that, and my hunch was correct. The Cult has a little more of some light fruit (red currant?), and a slightly different mouth feel-- coats the tongue a little more. They’re the same color in the glass. I don’t expect either to get better with age, but I’d expect them to still be drinking pretty much the same way for at least two or three more years. My wife thought the Fetzer was better, but she much prefers her favorite, the red Bogle Phantom, to either.
The Cult Cab goes down easily. It would make an excellent base for sangria.
Dinner tonight will be garlic broiled salmon on a bed of lemon-balsamic lentils, a somewhat challenging dish for wine.
Later: the Cult Cab worked fairly well with the strong flavors of the meal. But it wasn’t a sipper of note after the meal.
So: okay with food, not much on its own. Hmmm. Earlier it was a sipper; after the meal it wasn’t. I don’t know what to make of that. There’s about a third of the bottle left for tomorrow night.
Second night: Both the Cult and the Fetzer had been sitting on the table, corks in, no special handling. I thought both had improved a little. The Cult still had a flavor I couldn’t identify, but which didn’t improve the wine. It went okay with the fritatta we had for supper.
My conclusion: a decent wine with no edges, but not one to make most wine drinkers ecstatic. The casemates price is good, particularly by the case.
Just tried one the other night, first smell and taste was somewhere between barnyard and bandaid. It took several hours for the “medicine cabinet” effect to wear off. Just saying…
@InFrom It could’ve been a bad bottle, it’s the only one I had, from a friend on here. Some people don’t mind a little Brett (I think it’s called). Wifey enjoyed it more than I did. I went back to it the next night, not as noticeable.
@InFrom@ttboy23 it’s too late to buy but to close the loop… Tommy, I got a little bit of the smell you talked about when I popped one last night but taste was good, as remembered. Seems maybe similar to the one up now. Still deciding.
Thank you to WCC for the opportunity to be a lab rat!
This wine is good and at this price point, a steal. A lot of cherry, red berries, and currant flavors. A lingering finish with just the slightest hint of oak. I don’t like oak flavors in my wine, at all. That being said, this may be the first time I was not bothered by (and actually enjoyed) a very subtle oak flavor.
If any old wooters here remember the 2009 Mirage “accidental sparkling” reserve cab, this flavor profile and mouthfeel match that wine pretty well. Definitely worth a purchase.
@chipgreen I think the lowest I saw was 99 a case and I absolutely loved it. Sparkling and all. So this wine gets a pretty high endorsement from me. My wife said no, because I’ve ordered a couple of other cases lately. I may need to get creative on this one… Any RTP folks up for a split?..
@chipgreen@kevo152@losthighwayz Wasn’t that Fred Rinaldi? (Is that his last name? I think so.) The only wooter I know of to have a sale named after him (Red Said Fred)?

For those who have bought before, would you buy it again?

@foxrunner @ zekeswine1@ keili30 Thank you all very much. This is why I love this community. Wish this repeat offer was the Cinsault instead.
@jrbw3 yeah B-Dub, would you buy again?
@jrbw3 that bottle you gave me from the last time offered had a different color label? I’ll have to check the vintage
@ttboy23 I’m seriously considering. QPR solid.

@DickL Thank you for the report. I liked the comparison with the Fetzer.
Just tried one the other night, first smell and taste was somewhere between barnyard and bandaid. It took several hours for the “medicine cabinet” effect to wear off. Just saying…
@ttboy23 thank you for changing my mind. I would never get past the smell.
@ttboy23 Ok that sounds bad. Was it possibly just a bad bottle?
@InFrom It could’ve been a bad bottle, it’s the only one I had, from a friend on here. Some people don’t mind a little Brett (I think it’s called). Wifey enjoyed it more than I did. I went back to it the next night, not as noticeable.
@InFrom @ttboy23 I definitely didn’t have that experience, and I’ve had multiples. Sorry Tommy, I’ll make it right.
@InFrom @ttboy23 it’s too late to buy but to close the loop… Tommy, I got a little bit of the smell you talked about when I popped one last night but taste was good, as remembered. Seems maybe similar to the one up now. Still deciding.
@InFrom @jrbw3 Ok, thanks. Let me know if you need help with “the Stag”

@kevo152 Thank you for ratting and your thoughts.
@kevo152
The Fizzy Cab! I still have a bottle.
I think WD blew those out at like $80/case.

@chipgreen @kevo152 I miss CabSaidFred was that his handle?
@chipgreen @losthighwayz that sounds familiar! So many old timers lost in the wind…
@chipgreen @kevo152 @losthighwayz Wasn’t that Fred Rinaldi? (Is that his last name? I think so.) The only wooter I know of to have a sale named after him (Red Said Fred)?
@chipgreen @InFrom @kevo152 @losthighwayz
Yup, as I recall.
He never made it to a gathering…
Moved to TX from SoCal/LA area iirc.
@InFrom @kevo152 @losthighwayz
Yes, fred rinaldi. He was all cab, all the time. He even drank Ardente from the stanley cup.
@chipgreen @InFrom @kevo152 @losthighwayz
That was an epic post
