The CULT Wine Co. 2021 Sauvignon Blanc is an aromatically vibrant white wine with tropical tones. An array of fruit forward citrus notes co-mingles with a bright acidity creating a well-balanced and refreshing palate. A natural crispness on the finish cultivates an undeniably perfect accompaniment to enjoy on warm days.
Region
Lying directly east of the largest gap in California’s Coast Rages - the San Francisco Bay - Lodi experiences a Mediterranean climate. During the growing season, warm sunny days allow for the optimal ripening of wine grapes. By contrast, cool winds off the Pacific Ocean which travel inland over a network of waterways act as a natural air conditioner for the region, helping wine grapes maintain racy acidity.
Let’s snap out of it. Wine doesn’t always need to be taken so seriously. Taste leads the way, not the price tag on the bottle.
At The Cult Wine Co., we believe enjoying wine should be fun. For us, wine is for loud potluck style dinners, endless catch-up conversations, poured for those long rambling toasts, with glasses that don’t need stems, all to make every occasion a celebration.
From our seasoned wine family rooted in Napa Valley, The Cult Wine Co. started as a pursuit to prove that great wines can be crafted outside the limits of the valley. Napa Valley produces powerful fruit, but it’s not the only place that grows quality wine grapes. California’s Lodi region also benefits from a Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool evenings that develops rich flavors in the wine grapes.
With The Cult Wine Co., all you need to know is what you like. This bold honesty is captivating and suddenly you want to be surrounded by those that see the world of wine as we do.

This bottle luckily arrived nearly a week in advance, so I was able to let it rest and chill slowly to 55° before twisting off the cap on Friday evening.
Before pouring I sniffed at the spout a few times to see what I could pick up. It struck me as sort of crisp – mild lemon, pear, grass or straw. It’s getting to the point where the only whites I really come in contact with are Labrat samples so I’m mainly drawing on previous reviews for experience, but there was something I couldn’t quite translate: slightly buttery oak? Not that I’m any olfactologist.
Once in the glass I noticed its color was very light, almost clear pale yellow. Still quite cool from the chiller, the flavor was muted and acidity was less present on the tongue than the scent implied. No real finish, in fact it fell off quickly as if pushed off a cliff. What I could catch was dry but not astringent. Not much heat either so at this temp I could see this being pretty refreshing (perhaps even dangerously so) on a warm day.
Not being much for whites, my partner and I both found this to be a simple, unoffensive, easy drinker (“flat” is how she described it). We typically cook with sauvignon blanc, and found this to be hypothetically suitable for our purposes. After 30 minutes to an hour as it warms some, the finish lingers a bit more and flavors become more apparent: apple, banana, along with some of that butteriness and some heat. Even so, still seems better to keep cool unless accompanying with food- something creamy, or grilled poultry/pork, or I dunno, sushi? A friend also tried it and detected a hint of lemon, crisp finish - found the acidity to be nice but better with cheese, noting that pairing with spicy food gave a bitter finish.
This is a first white from the Cult collection that we have tried, and can recommend the cabernet without question. I was even lucky to find one (cabernet) in my mystery case a couple months back. Also found a similar offering of the year prior vintage of the sauvignon blanc and found the responses to not be far from our feelings now. Honestly decent I’m betting if you’re a fan of dry whites, and probably worth $12-15 a bottle if that’s where it lands today.
Many thanks to the Casemates team for the chance to rat! Always a fun pleasure to try something!

@TimW With you, four posts. New record low?
@rjquillin and one of those was a rat report! Pretty unusual.
