Inspired by the renowned rosé wines of Provence, France, our 2020 DAOU Discovery Collection Rosé remains faithful to its origins. This wine is remarkably fragrant, offering generous aromas of fresh peach, Bartlett pear, and nectarine, with subtle notes of hyacinth, apricot, and crushed rose petals. The palate is delightfully silky, underlying a clean, fresh crispness delivering enticing flavors of mango, Crenshaw melon, lemon chiffon, and tangerine. Secondary layers reveal hints of sweet cherry and vanilla with orange peel accents. A luxurious and lasting finish leaves traces of apple pie, strawberry, and kiwi.
THE VINTAGE
DAOU Discovery Collection wines represent our passion for approachable luxury. Winemaker Daniel Daou has cultivated deep connections with families of growers for numerous vintages, allowing him to maintain absolute quality and consistency. The 2020 growing season began on a dry note, followed by much-needed rain in April that replenished the soils and set the stage for healthy canopy growth. Conditions through midsummer remained mild and steady, with the exception of a rare August thunderstorm. The wines of 2020 are marked by a voluptuous mouthfeel with considerable flesh and power.
Family-owned and operated, DAOU Family Estates is committed to producing collectible, world-class wines to rival the most respected appellations in the world. Situated on a 212-acre hilltop Estate in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles, our remarkable geology, favorable microclimate, and high elevation were once described by renowned California winemaker, André Tchelistcheff, as “a jewel of ecological elements.” As stewards of this beautiful terroir, DAOU’s goal is to make unique fine wines that honestly and accurately reflect the potential of the Estate and to craft Bordeaux-style wines that combine Old World tradition with New World techniques.
As young men, brothers Georges and Daniel Daou shared the same dream: to live a life in wine. Their dream prevailed years later when they discovered what would become known as DAOU Mountain, an untapped world-class terroir in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles.
Ever since, they have poured their souls into creating some of California’s most noteworthy wines while cultivating a guest experience to match. In the end, DAOU is about family - and the truth that nothing brings people together like wine.

91 Points. Light peach and apricot aromas are leveled by wet rock, rose and lemon peel accents on the nose of this bottling. It tightens firmly on the sip, where melon and stone fruit flavors are splashed by a bit of citrus. MK 9/1/21
from Vinous:
90 Points. “Limpid pink. Raspberry, nectarine and a hint of ginger on the mineral-accented nose. Lively red berry, citrus fruit and honeysuckle flavors show very good depth and are complemented by a refreshingly bitter hint of quinine. Finishes chewy and long, leaving red fruit and floral notes behind.” - Josh Raynolds (6/2021)
…and this review better left unsaid…but it is Wacky Wednesday (WW) after all, and Wacky Wednesday is when the gas station up the road offers 1/2 price car washes and usually one great deal on a product inside, usually toilet paper, which may be appropriate here but I digress. So without further ado, from Wilfred Wong (WW, see the tie in?)
COMMENTARY: The 2020 Daou Rosé is fresh and active. TASTING NOTES: This wine offers pleasing aromas and flavors of candied cherries and earthy notes. Enjoy it with fresh salmon and avocado handrolls. (Tasted: May 16, 2021, San Francisco, CA)

@bunnymasseuse@DebRVA I’m hoping for rats also. We’re becoming more and more rosé people. As a cheapskate, anything over $10 counts as ‘fancy’ for us, and I need to see the review.
It’s quite a coincidence that a wine from Daou is offered today. This is a winery that I was not familiar with until I visited two of my favorite restaurants in SoFlo in the past couple of weeks, and they both have wines from Daou. I have not tasted this wine, but I did have a Cab and a Cab blend, and they were delicious. Tempted, but I’m also waiting to see what the Rats have to say.
I was lucky enough to receive this last minute bottle from Alice. Have made several purchases throughout the years but this is my first time being a Lab Rat.
The look of the bottle is very elegant. The color is a pale salmon that compliments the bottle.
Upon opening, I’m getting soft rose petals as well as a a blend of light fruits such as strawberries and watermelon on the nose.
First sip, wow it really pops with flavor. Second sip proves this rose to be well balanced all around. Fresh, crisp and bright.
The smell, flavor and appearance of this wine meld together to make for a perfect afternoon sipping wine
I have never been to Daou winery but am aware of their reputation for producing great wines from Paso Robles and this one does not disappoint.
What would be disappointing is not getting some of this exquisite rose. And for those Harry Styles fans… It’s better than a Watermelon Sugar High!
@jennyrenard dang…now I kinda want some but no delivery to me…
My sister is a member of this winery. Maybe I’ll ask for a sip next time I go to her house…
@TimW I would say it’s off dry. I love me a rosé and this does those trick. I never like
My rosé to sweet. I’m finding it perfect for a fresh fish, shell fish or a great cheese board. Not only did I have flavors of watermelon, but found notes of mango and pineapple. Hope
@jennyrenard we don’t like anything sweet or usually even off-dry (except port). We do really like the Onesta Cinsault rosé which is also Provençal style, so we might like this. I’m worried that we won’t like it if it’s off-dry, though.
If anyone in MA near the NH border grabs a case I’d definitely be interested in splitting or even just buying a few bottles to try! Sounds intriguing, but alas for no NH shipping!
Hello Casemates. The bottle arrived this evening, through no fault of Alice at WCC. Given the late arrival I’ll cut to the chase. I’m in for a case. For those who prefer a tad more deliberation and perhaps a bit of information please read on, but the risk of the crushing bitterness of a sell out is on you.
No rest for this wine. One glass went directly into the cellar, and another glass into the refrig. while I scrutinized an empty larder for some slight sliver of inspiration. The unique bottle telegraphs the color pretty quickly, a pale pink leaning toward salmon, which once in the glass, was consistent and solid to the rim. It’s fragrant with a medium high intensity of aromas that are broad, and fruit rich. Meal prep was pretty quick, since I was already running late. The cellared glass was mid 60’s and refrigerated glass mid 50s. The warmer of the two showed off impressive aromas of stone fruit, apricot for me, grapefruit, tangerine and a definite floral character that bordered on rose petals. The chilled glass had slightly less expression, as expected, and I got more strawberry and melon, and less florals. The aroma is big and embracing in this wine, and it greets you beautifully in every sip you take.
I did my best with slim pickings and paired the wine with a salad of fresh farmer’s market arugula and mesclun greens, avocado and flash fried zucchini with truffle and pecorino romano. Entry was broad, fruit forward and welcoming with apricot and now more melon. A flavor profile that was consistent across both samples. The acidity is high and there is a bit of mineral zip, but I would not say this is a lean wine. It paired very well with the creamy avocado and held up nicely to the sharp pecorino romano and fried zucchini.
I enjoyed it, and as mentioned, I’m in for a case at this price. I prefer rosé to white for light meals, appetizers and summer sipping, and this hit the mark. It mentions in the description, the Provencal style, and it may be my own experience, but I found this wine to be a bit broader, slightly more fruit rich and fragrant. It was less citrusy and more multi-dimensional than Provencal Rosé that I recall, but still with a bright and definitive acidity.
Not a fan of the package really, does it fit any conventional racking? Anyway considering a purchase. Contacted the winery about RS and it is bone dry.
@losthighwayz So, they sent us the wrong vintage. we stopped it transit and sending of the pallets with new vintage took a long time. it just came in. we are turning it around today and you should see UPS activity starting this afternoon. yes, this took too long.
@deadlyapp@Winedavid49 man this order is jinxed! I missed delivery on saturday. Was to be delivered Monday and UPS tracking let me know package damaged and was being returned to Sender. This has never happened to me! I am bummed.

Tempting, but I’m waiting on rats. I’d love to hear how this compares to the Ion Wines Rose, which I loved.
@DebRVA I have one of them left, I also need more Rose.

So is this dry, off-dry, semi-sweet? I don’t see that in the description or a mention of residual sugar.

@cyclensip Great write up. Found a local to split a case with.

@cyclensip you’ve sold me! Thank you for the write up-you did a nice job on it.

“I drink, and I know things”
@cyclensip Thank you for the report
@bunnymasseuse @pmarin Oh, now I understand. I thought that saying was " I know I drink things"

It looks like the winery itself ships to IL. But I don’t see IL listed as a state for this offering from Casemates. Any chance this can come to IL?
@drcanak checking.
I was just noticing I need to restock rose´s, and this is exactly my style. Plus, Daou never disappoints.

Thanks, Lab Rats - I’m in for a case!

I’ve had it, and it’s great.

@WCCWineGirl This might have sold me!
If anyone is interested in splitting near Indy, I ordered a case.
Not a fan of the package really, does it fit any conventional racking? Anyway considering a purchase. Contacted the winery about RS and it is bone dry.
@kaolis Same issue with Acquiesce, but those I know are tasty, so I deal with it; and no, they don’t fit well.
@kaolis @rjquillin Unfortunately, it’s a bit fat for traditional racks. Just checked it.
@cyclensip @rjquillin Thanks and apparently will not matter as cases are sold out…so much wine so little time!
@Winedavid49 Cases gone, any chance of a reload?
I don’t believe so
@Winedavid49 Cool, thanks for checking back.
Taking unusually long to ship within CA. I usually get wines shipped within 10 days
@losthighwayz came from Paso. may have had some delays. i’ll check.
@Winedavid49 thank you!
@losthighwayz So, they sent us the wrong vintage. we stopped it transit and sending of the pallets with new vintage took a long time. it just came in. we are turning it around today and you should see UPS activity starting this afternoon. yes, this took too long.
@losthighwayz @Winedavid49 thanks for the update, the QC check is appreciated!
@losthighwayz @Winedavid49 man, most companies would have just taken it and sent out a note to everyone saying “sorry! Enjoy this other vintage!”
@deadlyapp @Winedavid49 man this order is jinxed! I missed delivery on saturday. Was to be delivered Monday and UPS tracking let me know package damaged and was being returned to Sender. This has never happened to me! I am bummed.

@bunnymasseuse @deadlyapp @losthighwayz @Winedavid49 Mine just arrived and after an especially trying day, I opened a bottle, it is amazing. Hope you all get yours soon, worth the wait.
@deadlyapp @losthighwayz @mew5280 @Winedavid49 hope my case is untouched by damage, will b enjoying for Sunday Easter. Dinner!
Just drove by the winery yesterday en route to Tablas Creek!
@Winedavid49 any update? I sent you order number last week. Thank you!
@losthighwayz @Winedavid49 sorry to bother again but I have not heard from anyone about this.
@losthighwayz pinging again. stand by.
@Winedavid49 support team reached out. Looks promising. Thank you!
