Made from gently pressed Grenache grapes in the classic Old World style, the 2022 Rosé presents a pretty pale flamingo hue with scintillating aromas of fresh strawberry, guava, crème brûlée and honeysuckle. Subtle hyacinth and ginger notes are accompanied by cranberry, rhubarb, cherry blossom, and lemon meringue. The palate is exquisitely balanced, displaying a lush, crisp juiciness with flavors of ripe strawberry, papaya, nectarine, and mandarin orange. Hints of spiced peach, mango, and watermelon are complemented by red delicious apple, kiwi, apricot, and honeydew melon, all cascading into a clean, refreshing finish.
THE VINTAGE
DAOU wines represent our passion for approachable luxury. Winemaker Daniel Daou has cultivated deep connections with select Paso Robles growers for numerous vintages, allowing him to maintain absolute quality and consistency. The 2022 growing season was initially marked by winter drought conditions that were alleviated by rains in late March and April—a miracle happenstance that replenished the soils and set the pace for healthy vine canopies to come. A later-than-usual bud break was followed by normal spring and summer weather patterns through August. Finally, a September heat wave prompted an early harvest that put Daniel’s ingenuity, artistry, and experience to the test. In the end, 2022 was a winemaker’s vintage, yielding elegantly flavorful and balanced wines that prove the importance of mastering grape growing and winemaking.
Family owned and operated, DAOU Family Estates is committed to producing collectible, world-class wines to rival the most respected appellations in the world. Situated on a 212-acre hilltop Estate in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles, our remarkable geology, favorable microclimate, and high elevation were once described by renowned California winemaker, André Tchelistcheff, as “a jewel of ecological elements.” As stewards of this beautiful terroir, DAOU’s goal is to make unique fine wines that honestly and accurately reflect the potential of the Estate and to craft Bordeaux style wines that combine Old World tradition with New World techniques.
As young men, brothers Georges and Daniel Daou shared the same dream: to live a life in wine. Their dream prevailed years later when they discovered what would become known as DAOU Mountain, an untapped world-class terroir in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles.
Ever since, they have poured their souls into creating some of California’s most noteworthy wines while cultivating a guest experience to match. In the end, DAOU is about family - and the truth that nothing brings people together like wine.

@Cerridwyn@InFrom I bought these the first time and discovered this. I won’t buy them again. Most of our daily’s end up on a rack and having these in its own separate box was annoying.
@Cerridwyn@infrom I really enjoyed the prior offer, quite enjoyable rose. And a beautiful bottle, making it great for gifting or bringing to a get-together! Didn’t last long enough to be needed to be stored on a wine rack! Grab and go!
A double treat to be a rat for an auto-buy. It’s like a bonus bottle on an already good deal. I grab this wine every time it’s offered, so I’ll put that disclaimer out there. I like crisp, dry, Grenache-based Rosé in the Provencal style, and Daou Discovery fits that bill.
The color is light, leaning into salmon from a hint of yellow/orange. Opened from the refrigerator, poor form but typical when I have this wine, the aromas circle around grapefruit, watermelon, pomegranate and dried strawberry. This vintage has a bit of spiciness and grass which I don’t recall in prior vintages. The aroma profile stayed consistent in the glass over time, with the strawberry coming out a bit.
The entry is crisp, with a zing on the tongue that leaves you thinking tart red berry. That red berry broadens out to let in a bit of spice or mineral on the shortish finish. It’s a lean, bright, light Rosé that works well for afternoon spritz or with light meals. We paired this with Firecracker Corn Salad and fresh baked breads from tonight’s Farmer’s Market.
Heads up from the chatter around prior vintages, this is a very pretty bottle that doesn’t fit in a standard wine rack. Caveat emptor. I stash mine in the beverage fridge where I can grab it on the way out to the patio.
As mentioned, an auto-buy for me. This vintage is a bit more tart and spicy than 2021, but still right in the wheelhouse for my preferred style of Rosé. For Sauv Blanc lovers out there, this is a Rosé you might like. It will give you that same crispness, and generally lean profile, with nuanced watermelon, strawberry and pomegranate that make it fun and interesting. Hope that helps. Did I say I was in for a case?

91 points. Soft strawberry and watermelon aromas are cut by tangerine peel on the nose of this bottling. The palate has earthy tones of wet rocks and chalk, with well-integrated acidity pumping into the finish. — Matt Kettmann 11/1/23
This is a solid deal on a crowd pleasing rose, so auto buy for me! And it makes a great hostess gift with the fancy bottle. No worries about storage, it doesn’t last long, especially during the summer months.

Sorry for this late rattage. Alice notified me on Monday that a bottle was on its way for a Lab Rat evaluation today.
As luck would have it our regular UPS driver was off yesterday, and we were out for an appointment at that time, so we got the dreaded door sticker instead of a package. Our regular guy would have left it.
The bottle didn’t arrive today until after 4:30PM. Of course, it was quite warm to the touch after spending the better part of today in the UPS truck, so I popped it in the freezer for a quick chill.
I have not taken pictures for @cyclensip has already provided wonderful images.
Here are my thoughts as I sip this:
Nice. Fruity, but not overpowering, noticeable acidity (aka zing or spicyness), short, mineral finish with a slight bit of lingering bitterness on my palate.
I won’t attempt to describe all the fruit nuances given by Dadou, or by @cyclensip, but I do agree that I get some melon-like middle tastes very faintly reminiscent of something like cantaloupe.
I didn’t have anything to eat with this during my initial tasting as I want to get this rat report out before it gets any later. I think this would go well with something spicy such as possibly a Mexican or a mild Indian curry, or even BBQ potato chips, where the acidity and minerality would be put to good use.
I plan to make a pineapple salsa (with some Atulfo mango and fresh peaches in addition to the fresh pineapple, which I cut this morning) after a while and have it with some steamed tilapia and some fresh baguettes I baked this afternoon. I think this Dauo Rosé will pair well with that.
I like rosés, in general, and this is right up there with the best of what I have purchased recently (Grandeur Rosé , Vidigal Vinho Verde Portuguese Rosé, Pebble Lane, and several sparkling rosés). At the moment, I have too many rosés on hand.
While the bottle is certainly attractive, it will not fit any of my multiple wine racks, which is a problem for those who rack wines, or at least lay corked bottles on their sides to prevent drying and leakage issues.
I don’t blame Daou for choosing this bottle. An attractive bottle and an attractive label coupled with the beautiful color of this wine are strong attractions to a buyer at point of sale. It also looks handsome, when being served from that same bottle.
That being said, I do want to enjoy a bit more of this one, so I’m in for the four bottle set as opposed to my usual case auto-buy.
We always enjoy this rosé and even though the bottle doesn’t fit the wine fridge or the typical rack, it’s a pleasant summer sipper and always a hit at parties. In for two cases
In for two cases here too. I’ve bought this twice (?) before and enjoyed the wine and then the bottle as a candle holder on my patio table. Just found my last two bottles nestled under some other rosés (maybe Onesta) and was going to be sorry to say goodbye to them. This offer solves that dilemma. Yes, you have to chill one or two bottles at a time, but worth the effort imho.
This wine came on one of the hottest days this summer. Note that bottles were too large to be shipped in the summer packaging. Thanks to the two day shipping all bottles seemed to be fine. Placed a bottle in refrigerator and opened it the next day.
It is a light refreshing wine that really hits the spot while lounging at the pool with friends.

Now I remember why I haven’t bought this before…. no NJ. Any Philly or Bucks County folks interested in a split?
@hscottk in Philly and could do a split, but I should note that I don’t have a car
@murftastic Was hoping to meet in the middle somewhere. But thanks for the offer!
That is an incredibly beautiful bottle
@Cerridwyn The wine’s pretty nice, too!
People with wine racks have pointed out that these bottles don’t fit. No wine racks, no problem!
