This wine belongs to DAOU’s Curious Collection, featuring three limited edition wines that reflect a spirit of experimentation and innovation under Winemaker Daniel Daou. Blend 52B is a unique cuvée of Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and Grenache Blanc that was given extra time to develop, resulting in an elegant wine of sophistication and pedigree. Perfumy and floral on the nose, it offers fragrances of star jasmine and lavender around a core of white peach, fig, and crème brulée. Subtle accents of mango and hyacinth contribute lush dimension. A clean, refined palate shows delicate flavors of papaya and kiwi complemented by Asian pear and Casaba melon. This wine finishes gracefully with lingering notes of citrus, honeysuckle, and ginger.
Family owned and operated, DAOU Family Estates is committed to producing collectible, world-class wines to rival the most respected appellations in the world. Situated on a 212-acre hilltop Estate in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles, our remarkable geology, favorable microclimate, and high elevation were once described by renowned California winemaker, André Tchelistcheff, as “a jewel of ecological elements.” As stewards of this beautiful terroir, DAOU’s goal is to make unique fine wines that honestly and accurately reflect the potential of the Estate and to craft Bordeaux style wines that combine Old World tradition with New World techniques.
As young men, brothers Georges and Daniel Daou shared the same dream: to live a life in wine. Their dream prevailed years later when they discovered what would become known as DAOU Mountain, an untapped world-class terroir in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles.
Ever since, they have poured their souls into creating some of California’s most noteworthy wines while cultivating a guest experience to match. In the end, DAOU is about family - and the truth that nothing brings people together like wine.

Very excited to evaluate this Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache Blanc blend. After a proper chilling, we popped it open for an initial sample and to decide on possible pairings. My cocktail nerd spouse immediately said “smells/tastes Tiki”. We’ll get to that.
Appearance:
Pale straw color, Decent legs
Nose:
Faint aromas of honeydew melon, pineapple, nice floral notes of chamomile and a hint of lavender.
Taste:
Pineapple carries thru from the nose, with kiwi, hint of lime and other tropical fruits- reminding one of a Tiki cocktail.
Mouthfeel:
Crisp medium acidity, citrus feel, long lingering tartness.
Because my spouse got the Tiki feels with this wine, we decided to try a tropical-ish pairing. In the upper Midwest this time of year that means Thai food. It paired quite nicely with spring rolls and Pad Thai, but fell a little flat with a pineapple curry fried rice dish- probably lacking more sweetness and acidity to stand up to that. Same with the crab rangoon appetizer.
In warmer months, I’d enjoy sipping this one on the patio, but maybe it’s the winter weather, but i’m craving a big red right now. This one with the right food pairing is a gem, especially considering the great price here.
Thanks again for the opportunity. Happy New Year and Cheers!
What a nice white wine. Wow! Saw the blend and I was not sure what to expect. First taste right out of the fridge without a chance for it to breathe…what I would call a bit spicy but nice. After pouring, with about 10 mins in the glass, this wine became a smooth and wonderful mixture of flavors. Very enjoyable wine. Highly recommend to the white wine drinker looking for something different, yet slightly familiar. Well balanced. Not buttery, not very oaky and full of flavor.
@DaveSanborn thanks, matches what I would hope for in a blend. I would say with the components mixed in here I would opt for “cool cellar temp” rather than regular food refridge temp. Or at least give it some time to warm up as you did, with good results. Most of my white wines I would drink at 50-60.

Guess I’ve not kept up; Daou recently have some ownership changes? I did look on their site after Larry asked for some labs an this bottling appears nowhere to be found. For that matter, all those in the trade section lack labs too, don’t tell 'em too much seems the mantra.
@kylemittskus So, after all these years, how did you happen to pop in and what pushed you over the edge for a case?
Perhaps you can enable some others…
@rjquillin I get the email for every offer. The label is pretty enough for gifting. Daou is a legit producer and at $12 shipped, I’ll take a solid party wine all day.

@efamily Thanks for the review. We aren’t especially fond of “buttery” whites. We like good grip and acidity. Would you say this one is buttery?
@lionel47 Nope. Not buttery. Quite the opposite.

Dry?
@kainc off dry.
No Illinois. Bummer because I need more whites.
NV?
Edit: “ BARRELS: Likely stainless steel.”
@kylemittskus
Long time since we’ve seen that name here!
All is good in bubbles land?
Offer says 2020; no?
@rjquillin Hey, old friend; happy new year! All good here; kids are healthy and thriving. And yes, my cellar is full of Champagne these days.
2020, indeed, I see now. Pretty sure I’m in for a case, here. Recent sale likely triggering unloading of “old” stock.

@karenhynes Gee, that’s not even recent!
Any further technical data on this one? I know that @winedavid49 always requests it …
Conflicted, I love Viogniers and Sav Blancs, but can’t stand Cali Chards. May just grab 4 to be on the safe side.
@bigjajapoof To me, not your typical California Chard profile. Not buttery, not oaky. The blend they did works.
In for a case. See you all in 5 more years!
@kylemittskus How you doing??
@klezman hey, brother! Happy new year!
Well, man. How are you and Leah and the 2 (?) kids?
@kylemittskus Yeah, two of them! Far less crazy than your brood
We’re good…still in the same place and generally work and life are good.
