This Sonoma County red blend showcases the vibrant essence of mountain raspberries, delivering a burst of juicy and luscious fruit on the palate. A delicate kiss of vanilla adds a subtle sweetness and an enticing aromatic dimension. Completing the experience are notes of roasted cocoa nibs, offering a rich and indulgent undertone that lingers seductively. This harmonious combination creates a wine that is both alluring and memorable, inviting you to savor every sip. This is a balanced wine with a strong backbone and pleasant soft tannins, which can be enjoyed NOW to 2035.
This signature blend, “Bastille” is made in the style of left-bank Bordeaux reds, with Cabernet Sauvignon that hails from “aCURE eSTATE” Vineyard, located in the hills of Alexander Valley, an area that enjoys long, sunny days and cool nights, and Merlot as well as Cabernet Franc from Dry Creek Valley. After fermentation, this blend was aged in French oak barrels for 28 months prior to bottling.

Good morning! I have the pleasure of introducing the 2018 De Novo Batille. A 66% cab sauvignon, 42% merlot, 2% cab franc.
According to the vintner after aging the cab sauv and merlot for 18 months the cab franc is added.
Bottle arrived and rested for a day before diving in.
deeply saturated purplish reds
On the nose A bright nose of Blackberrys, acidic/sour jammy. Slight rubbing alcohol burn.
First day sips plum, blackberry, leather, pepper, good but not overwhelming tannins. Slight oak.
Letting air for 30 to 45 mins didn’t seem to change much.
Finish is clean, smooth and young. Longest lasting flavor is tart, jammy, blackberry.
Doesn’t stick around on the pallet. Very easy drinking blend.
Second day may have calmed down. Very Welch’s grape Jelly and not rubbing alcohol. Less tart, still blackberry jam, nothing overly complex.

I also received a bottle of the De Novo Bastille but unfortunately, my bottle was cooked in transit or was somehow else flawed. It was 98 degrees here on the day of delivery and the wine arrived during the hottest part of the day. Bummer. It will be a lot cooler next week if Alice wants me to try again!
@jhkey Did Brown negotiate air conditioned trucks? Another reason to wait for cool weather wine shipping. Pretty much nuts to ship wine anywhere right now. I’m surprised producers want to offer their wines here in the summer to be honest.
@jhkey@kaolis Lab rat bottles are much harder - so much less insulation and thermal mass when it’s just a single. My rat bottle a few weeks ago was warm to the touch but a case from CM came with just ever so slightly warm necks in about the same weather and same late-in-the-day delivery time.
@jhkey@kaolis yes, they’re overnight, but it’s the driving around town during the day that’s the issue since that’s when the sun is banking those trucks. And they seem to deliver to me very late in the day.

@jml326 ha I wonder if one reason it’s on here is that it’s composed of 110% different varieties
@CruelMelody hey its giving 110%
@CruelMelody @jml326
56 + 42 + 2 = 100
Is something else missing?
@jml326 @rjquillin the label is wrong

Nice wine at a killer case price, but I don’t have room for 12. Any SF or nearby Bay Area folks interested in a split (2 way or 3 way)?

@jhkey @klezman But rat bottles are overnight
@jhkey @klezman Is what it is. I’d buy more here with a different shipping model and I’ll leave it at that.
