Introducing our first ever @ Rosé! The grapes for @ Rosé are picked later in the season resulting in an off-dry, or slightly sweet Rosé. The acidity is softer & the color pinker. The luscious fruitiness explodes across your palate; Perfect for a summer day.
Pair with fruit salads & Asian cuisine.

12x 2023 Deerfield Ranch Winery @ Rosé, Sonoma Valley
PJ and Robert met at Berkeley in 1968. Robert, a backyard mechanic, kept PJ’s Italian sports cars running – takes an Italian to do that. As a thank you, PJ gave Robert, who was already interested in fine wine, a winemaking kit – seemed a good gift for a chemist grad. Robert made his first wine in his garage in Berkeley in 1972. He entered it in the California State Fair and took home the Best of Show Award. Robert found his passion and continued making wine in his garage, turned winery, for his family and friends.
Ten years later, PJ and Robert left their good jobs in the city to pursue their dream of owning a winery in the Sonoma Valley. In 1982, they bought the Deerfield Ranch in Glen Ellen where they got married, and turned the horse barn into their first winery. The Rexes still live there today, however, in 2000, they bought 47 acres on Highway 12 in Kenwood to expand the winery operation. The Deerfield Ranch Winery is still family owned and operated producing about 20,000 cases a year.
Our wines are barrel aged in the 23,000 sq. ft. cave, also home to the tasting room open daily to the public. Winemaker Robert Rex was the pioneer of the cleanwine® movement and can often be seen at the winery. His philosophy is “Wine should be good and good for you.”

I scrolled down quickly to avoid looking at the price and any other information that may subconsciously influence my report!
First off, UPS sucks. Deliver was next day on Tuesday so I redirected to my UPS store and I received the dreaded “sortation” message and that delivery was delayed
Anyhoo, picked up the bottle earlier this evening, threw it in the freezer, and opened an hour ago
Temperature: 49 degrees
Color: opaque, copper salmon. Dark for a rose
Smell: holy tropical fruit smells abound! I picked out guava while my wife smelled stone fruit, likely peach
Taste: this is a bigger than usual flavor and weight of Han we are used to as rose lovers though not in a bad way. I am 99 percent positive it’s a swinger Rose . It has weight without being heavy and lots of fruit without being sugary. My guess is no RS, plenty of fruit, and no oak.
Wife and I settled on a canned peaches flavor profile though NOT sugary and less syrupy. It’s light on its feet but definitely the profile is there.
Alcohol: my guess is around 14 percent which is a tad high for roses we typically enjoy.
Conclusion: this is NOT a Provence rose. It’s lacking the minerality and bright red berry fruit flavors we associate with these along with the pale salmon color. That being said, we both found it quite tasty and enjoyable and will be in IF the price is right. Think of this as a winter rose.
Our winery price guess is $24-$28 and a great CM would be in the $12-$14 range.
Note: we drink roses often in this household.
Thanks Alice and WD for the opportunity to share our thoughts on this offer
@losthighwayz I believe that when you suspect there’s no RS, but there is a little, that means they did a good job with it. (Also when there’s no RS, but the fruit is so rich it seems there might be.)
Boosting the fruit. Sounds good. And they beat your target price. You’re in?
My wife and I are a little conservative, and I’m not sure we want a Swinger wine. Maybe if we were a little younger. But Saignée shouldn’t scandalize the neighbors too much. I’m in.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?
(Note: tax and shipping are not included in savings calculations.)
2023 Deerfield Ranch Winery @Rosé - $50 = 33.33%
Day 2: nose going strong and wine just as fresh as last night. Not gonna lie but after reading description (off dry) I am now tasting RS. Call it power of the mind! That being said, I am still quite enjoying it. The acidity is there to offset the sugar. Can see this working with some spicy food such as hot wings or Indian. Still quite enjoyable on its own.
Better yet, this is something that you can drink with your crappy sweet wine drinking friends (Stella Rosa types )!
Again, not your typical Bandol or Provence rose so don’t expect that.
Finally, I would never guess this was Syrah since none of the characteristics I associate with the grape are present

@kaolis @wardad same
@wardad haha
Some sad news about PJ - she died just a few months ago. (No personal connection, just found it searching around about the winery.)
