Our 2023 Pinot Noir delivers the subtle elegance that can only come from sustainably farmed, cool-climate vineyards. Key aromatics include black cherry, raspberry, and currants, with notes of mocha and vanilla. Medium-bodied, the palate is smooth and silky with integrated red fruit and a lingering sweet oak finish. This Pinot Noir is the perfect wine to serve with salmon, pork, lamb, or soft cheeses.
Vineyards
Of all the grape varieties, Pinot Noir is perhaps the most sensitive to its terroir. It responds to every fold in the earth and every suggestion in the weather. We harvest our Pinot Noir from sites located on the northern benches of Monterey’s Salinas Valley. Here, the cool, windy, foggy conditions produce wines of great character, texture, and structure.
Winemaking
Each of our estate vineyards is harvested block by block based on flavor and ripeness rather than statistical analysis. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were de-stemmed, crushed, and fermented in open-top fermenters. Regular punch downs of the cap over the 2-3 weeks of fermentation and maceration ensured full extraction of the color and flavors. The wine was aged with new and seasoned oak to retain the fruit and enhance complexity.

District 7 is all that Monterey as a wine-growing region has to offer. The number refers to our official regional designation within the state of California, but District 7 is much more than just a prime number. Most experts recognize Monterey County as one of the most beautiful and diverse wine-growing regions in the world, with complex soils and coastal weather patterns. Our winemaking team reaps the benefits of the exceptional fruit we produce, creating wines that are fruit-forward, true to varietal character, and a delicious reflection of Monterey.
Our family has farmed wine grapes in Monterey County, California, since 1972, and we are committed to cultivating a sustainable future from grapes to glass. Our vineyards and state-of-the-art winery are certified sustainable following all the best practices outlined by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance. In addition to these earth-friendly practices, our winery and entire bottling operation are 100% powered by renewable wind energy generated by an on-site 400-foot wind turbine. At our core, we strive to grow and produce delicious wines in a way that is good for the environment and good for our community.

87 points. Best Buy @ $16. Savory aromas of sagebrush and tart red fruits show on the nose of this bottling. The palate is wild with flavors of game, sour fruits and turned earth. — Matt Kettmann 12/1/25

2023 District 7 Estate Grown Pinot Noir - $20 = 15.38%
I got the notification of a delivery (woohoo) early last week, but the devastating crash in Louisville put a short halt on deliveries. I didn’t know when this would launch on Casemates and figured most everyone would be understanding of delays. To my surprise, a bottle of District 7 Pinot Noir was delivered just in time for a review.
I am quite a fan of Pinot Noirs, and I enjoyed the District 7 when I picked up a case of the 2020 vintage when it was last available. The color of this one reminds me a bit of cranberry juice. It has legs that linger for a few seconds. The aroma I get is mainly strawberry, but there’s something else going on there too giving something more, it could be vanilla. It’s real strawberry too, not a sweet or artificial strawberry aroma.
The first taste is pleasant. A bit of fruit hits at first, then some oak, with the tannins hitting almost at the same time at the end. Despite coming in at 13.5% ABV, I would have called this more on the light-bodied side. There is a complexity of flavor here, and different flavors come throughout the entire sip. It’s almost deceiving based on the aroma. There’s just a certain lightness to the mouthfeel, even though I feel like it definitely holds its own to a steak and richer fare. It just (obviously) doesn’t have the body of something like a Cabernet Sauvignon. If you enjoyed the previous offerings, I have no hesitation recommending this one either.

First, thank you to Alice and all involved for the chance to rat. Second, I want to mention that I think we received a bad bottle. This was unfortunately not a pleasant experience. I shared with my husband, who has very different taste from me, to be sure I wasn’t having tasting issues this weekend.
Day 1: Smells like cherry cola. Very light in color. Appears extremely light bodied. Photograph does not do the color justice.
First sip: dirt and dill. Sweet, then vinegar finish
Hubby: dusty, unripe plums
Overall, we felt day 1 was very unpleasant and were praying the bottle would open and be palatable.
Day 2: smells and tastes much sweeter. Less funky but still dusty. Not my cup of tea.
Hubby said “The wine is definitely less hateful than it was yesterday. It is drinkable but still harsh. Tart cherry maybe?” Lemon juice. Smooth mouth feel.
I have had bottles from District before and they’ve been pleasant. However, I still wanted to post to contribute our experience.
