“Broad aromas of poached peach, gardenia, apple blossom and lime bubblegum come through on the broad nose of this bottling. It tightens up on the palate, focusing on Meyer lemon peel and pith, with golden-apple and baking-spice flavors arising by the finish.” - Wine Enthusiast
Winemakers Notes
Lemon lime, fruit cocktail syrup, balanced crisp acidity, peach, guava
“Creamy aromas of baked peach, soft caramel and apricot blossom make for an engaging nose on this bottling. It’s clean, crisp and chalky on the palate, where Key lime blossom and strongly mineral tones make for a very clean and focused experience.” - Wine Enthusiast
Winemakers Notes
Pineapple, honeycomb, apple blossom, balanced tart acidity, medium plus finish

As a young boy, Ron Donati grew up in South San Francisco, the son of a first generation Italian-American family. One of his fondest memories was the sights and smells of his grandfather making wine in his basement. Like most Italian immigrants, Albino Donati made his own wine for the family dinner table. As an adult, Ron became a successful entrepreneur with a penchant for making quality products that were attainable to all, not just a select few. This same passion serves as the foundation and guiding mission of Donati Family Vineyard today. It is our goal to produce wines of exceptional quality regardless of budget.

Sláinte all! This will be a different type of review for the Donati Viognier because I was not able to actually taste it myself. I’ve been out of town partying with my gal pals - and the bottle showed up at my house while I’ve been gone. (We’ve been enjoying the Merlot from the mystery case, which I turned into Sangria.) Fortunately, I was able to deputize my spouse and daughter to evaluate the wine - they’ve joined me in the past for my reviews - so here are their notes.
In the glass, the wine was clear pale straw in color.
On the nose, the tasters were sensing melon, apricot and white peach.
On the palate, the wine was off dry; though just a hint of sweetness. Daughter was getting floral notes - rose petal; spouse was tasting melon. They both thought this was a light refreshing summer patio wine.
They tried it with some smoked cheddar and thought it contrasted well with the smokiness of the cheese. They also paired with some macadamia nuts and thought the wine was an ideal match for the smoothness of the nuts.
Thanks Alice & Casemates for the opportunity to review again. I just hope my family left me a glass to try when I get home!

I got a lovely treat yesterday in the Donati Albariño. It arrived pretty late in the day, so I threw it in the freezer to put a little chill on it.
The color has me in mind of an icewine, pale straw.
The nose on the albariño is like candied apricot, but the sweetness stays in the nose. There’s a light amount of spice on the palate, and the same stone fruit minus the candy. It’s a lovely flavor, but it’s not quite cold enough.
After another hour in the fridge, the temperature is perfect and the flavor is bolder. The finish is extremely smooth, and the notes of spice and apricot are almost juicy.
I roasted some veg and chickpeas to throw on a salad with a sour cream based dressing, and it suited the wine perfectly.
This time of year is perfect for this lovely albariño, I’m certainly in for a case.
@erisire Thanks for the detailed review. Now I really want a delicious-looking salad! BTW How do you roast chickpeas? I assume you mean fresh (green) ones. I went looking for those a few years ago and had little luck finding them in stores.
@mattig88 Yeah, good idea. Temp transfer is dramatically faster through water than air. I know some stores used to have quick wine chillers that basically had chilled water and you could put in a bottle and it had a pump to swirl the cold water around a bottle and was supposed to do a quick chill in a few minutes. Probably not “ideal” treatment for a wine but I suppose it will do in an emergency, such as finding out you’re a rat at the last minute.
I think my first exposure to Albariño was the notable WW wine Albino Rhino. Since then I have occasionally found bottles from other producers. Very distinctive and I certainly like it at the right time.
Also notice the quantity produced on all of these is very small, which I think is fine and makes it more interesting. Looks like just a few barrels of each produced.
Thanks for the 2 rattage reports so far. Do we have a chance of winemaker participation? @tercerowines definitely went above-and-beyond in forum participation on yesterday’s offer.
Labrat of the Rose checking in… sorry for the delay
We were fortunate to get the bottle yesterday, but didn’t have a chance to meal plan around it. Immediately put in the fridge to chill for about 3 hours. Excited to see that it was from Donati Family Vineyards. We were surprised to note that the back label indicated only 28 cases produced! back label
Very nice light salmon color, and always love the tall shaped bottles. wine in glass wine in glass 2
Initial pop and pour had some light notes of sour cherry, but clearly needed to warm a bit. After 10 mins, aromas added some grass. Flavors moved more towards grapefruit and a touch of gasoline as it warmed up. Good acidity and also minerality that I enjoy. I found it more classically provence style, more elegant flavor profile than a typical American rose.
Michelle thought some honey flavors on pop and pour, that I didn’t find, and “strong alcohol” after a mouth aeration. As the wine warmed, she said it paired better than expected with the teriyaki chicken, cutting through the salty and umami, and diminished the alcohol notes. She especially enjoyed it with the roasted onions. She was a fan as well.
These seem like a good buy to round out the summer wines, especially with our best weather (September/October) coming up. Nice wines for sitting on the back porch watching the wildfires erupt - we’ll pack them up and take them along when evacuated …

I don’t generally drink whites, but my favorites are Albariño and Viognier. So tempted.

@erisire @pmarin I throw canned ones on a sheet pan - they get nice and crispy
@CruelMelody @pmarin That’s what I do, too! Rise and dry canned and then season however you want.
@CruelMelody @erisire @pmarin same! They’re great on a salad like this.
Tip: Instead of putting it in the freezer, throw it in a jug or container filled with ice water, it will cool much faster and more evenly.

We enjoy the Donati wines quite a bit.
This is a nice mixed summer offer!
Thanks labrats! Been waiting for a solid mixed white case for some summer BBQs, this’ll do the trick
