What are you drinking tonight? Don't be an April 2020 Fool. Stay home and tell us...
1Since nobody else has done it yet…
Wife and I spent the evening eating Thai food while drinking 2018 Trestoria Rose and watching the first 3 episodes of Tiger King. We have been to Big Cat Rescue in person and I have donated to them on and off through the years (they are even my designated charity on smile.amazon). I had no idea about all this craziness surrounding them and “Joe Exotic”!

You can’t April Fool me!
2017 Iron Horse Vineyards Chardonnay Unoaked
2013 Laura Michael Wines Cab Sauv Calistoga
This is really good stuff.
@hscottk Yeah, love the Cabot wines.
@hscottk @klezman Received my BD11 old Syrah 6 pack a few days ago, resting now but next week they will see action!
@klezman @rc70 Based on my experience with the 2010, you won’t be disappointed!
@hscottk @klezman Yesh!! Cabot and Castelli were my favorites from BD10
@hscottk
You inspired me to pop one great stuff!! Oh and love your glass.
@ScottW58 My only regret is not buying more than 2. What’s most surprising is their durability, given how light they are. I’ve knocked them around a bit and expected the worst, but all is well thus far.
Now I need to decide if I need the Cabot cabs! He’s very cleverly left Berserker Day pricing up indefinitely…
2017 Iskaranu Pinot Noir, RRV…on a Zoom meeting with my friends. It’s the best we can do these days.
@karenhynes So no Mr. April?
@rjquillin
Not allowed in the restaurant…curbside pickup only.
@karenhynes I can kinda understand. This is getting to be beyond crazy.
2018 Becheur chardonnay. Found out about this on Wine Berzerkers - very nice wine and interesting pricing structure - great qpr! Still pretty young but will be a great food chard. website: https://becheur.com/product/18avchdp2/ (not a plug - no affiliation)
Wellington 2013 Chardonnay (2 more left – sigh). With take-out mushroom soup and Chilean sea bass. Trying our best to support local businesses.
2000 Turley Mead Ranch Atlas Peak Zin
with newly arrived Flannery shortloin tails
@klezman Missed those by a day. Hoped a call might get them to still honor the deal. Nope.
@rjquillin what deal? I just added these to my half-off order of NY strips
2011 The Weekender Experience, Napa Valley Meritage. Quite a ripe expression for the vintage at 14.9%.
Gruet Extra Dry
2010 Two Jakes cab franc, Roman Reserve
2014 Pedroncelli cab, 3 vineyards
2014 Midnight Vineyards Estate Zinfandel. Big and jammy, which we like, though we also like SH old world zins too. This one stands up to the Italian food with red sauce.
2006 Ridgeline Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
CT is telling me this is way past prime.
Must be time to test the 1st bottle.
Last night we drank a 2012 Castle Rock Pinot Noir Carneros Cuvee with pasta and salad from Piada, while watching the last four episodes of Tiger King.
Last night we had the Wind Gap 2008 Nebbiolo from Luna Matta Vineyard in Paso Robles. Who’d have figured that was a good place for Nebbiolo?!
2008 winesmith pinot noir.
Waterloo sparkling water Watermelon
2009 Hidden Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon 55% slope
2010 Ehlers Estate One Twenty Over Eighty St. Helena
2014 Bedrock Wine Co. Syrah T ‘n’ S Blocks Hudson Vineyard South
Saturday night BBQ on the patio while maintaining proper social distancing.
Attn scott, 2010 Congruence CS. Delicious and plenty of life left in this one. Ignore the last CT comment.
@jmdavidson1
Ha! great to hear, I posted my 09 in the April 2019 thread that Cory brought back last night just to aggravate Ron
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58
jryy qbar
@jmdavidson1 @rjquillin
Is this secret code?
@jmdavidson1 @rjquillin @ScottW58
@jmdavidson1 @rjquillin @ScottW58
ROT13, IIRC. Some peeps were playing around with it a few months ago but I wasn’t motivated to join in.
Cocktail tonight, water lily, gin/Cointreau/creme de violette/lemon juice. It’s stronger than I would normally drink at home, but it’s really delicious.
2016 Brander Bouchet
Twisted Oak Tempranillo (too oaky for me)
2013 Wind Gap Grenache Sceales Vineyard
Digging into the Garagiste boxes that arrived a few days ago.
@klezman Getting mine in a couple days, including one of those, along with 4 other Wind Gaps. I’m trying to taper off my Garagiste, but got up 2 boxes this time. Doh!
2015 Campesino Baybos
For the seder tonight:
2015 Tzafona Cellars Chardonnay Unoaked Niagara Peninsula VQA
2008 Tishbi Merlot Estate, Galil
@klezman Gut yontif! My own seder is pretty much nada tonight. But, I’ll celebrate the fact that whatever virus was plaguing me the last few weeks seems to have passed over with relatively minimal ill effects. I’m even starting to smell and taste things again.
@InFrom Same to you, and glad to hear you’re over what sounds like COVID-19.
We’re hosting over zoom with some friends. Got a whole lamb shoulder smoking on the grill right now.
It’s a rosé kinda day… Virage Rosé.
Playing with my new Corivan man this Kevin White bottle is delicious! Jdavidson must have steered me to this bottle.
@ScottW58 bah! impulse bought a Model One that was even more on sale than last time i looked! hah. You all are bad influences.
@ScottW58 wrong thread…
@CorTot
Whoops I’ll make up for it tomorrow
2017 Kelley Fox Hyland. This was fantastic after a 3 hour decant. SWMBO loved it even more than I did.
@hscottk
Nice glad to hear, I love these too!
@hscottk a little vinitwo del finito behind the glass!
@msten Yep…we use it for leftovers, which is rarely needed these days! @scottw58 definitely give the nod to this over the Momtazi, though a little unfair as that was pnp.
2017 Kay Brothers Basket Pressed Grenache
@losthighwayz
Where did you find that? I have had a couple of Kay Brothers wines and I really loved them! Did you like it?
@ScottW58 TSO for $20. Regret only buying one! Wife loved it
The rest of the Tzafona Chardonnay plus a 2006 Wellington Victory. Gotta celebrate getting this far into quarantine and not having any major problems.
Tonight I’ll be drinking tonight’s offer.
@klezman Rat?
@davirom @klezman That, or clairvoyant.
Graft Cidery “Farm Flor” sour cider. It’s sure sour. And tastes like Elmer’s glue? Not my thing.
@radiolysis Modern Times “Protocosmos” IPA as a back up. Much more my style.
@radiolysis And a bottle of TJ Brut Rosé to finish it off and watch Jesus Christ Superstar on YouTube.
Went looking in a storage box (in the temp controlled basement) for some Twisted Oak Tempranillo I “thought” was in there… ends up wasn’t Twisted Oak, but some stashed away Wellington. Came across a 2012 Cab I marked with a drink date of 2018-2020 - it is AMAZING. Also came across a 2009 Victory Reserve. I didn’t note the drink dates for it… so on a search for that. But knowing Peter’s wine, I know it will be phenomenal!
@melrod333 No need to rush on on the 2009 Victory. Plenty of life left in that.
2014 Halleck Pinot Noir Hillside Cuvee (Sonoma Coast)
…and…the bottle appears to be empty. This social distancing is gonna be rough on my liver.
A wee dram of the 2000 Vintage Port in the afternoon then a bottle of 2006 Prisoner w/dinner and a card game.
Excellent!
@FritzCat in person card game or virtual? We have discovered virtual euchre and are hooked on it.
@pseudogourmet98 In person. Wife and I are being very careful and visiting my mom every day, shopping for her etc. Playing Rummy with real cards. Mom won…maybe the whole bottle was too much.
Pinot Week continues with 2016 Franny Beck WV. Floral nose with cherry notes. Very nice QPR for the Berserker Day “land your helicopter @ Screagle” deal.
@hscottk
LOL!
Tonight just a wonderful bottle of aged Howell mountain cab! Hope some of you people bought some of these from Wine bid over the last 6 months? Pre 1997 anyways.
@ScottW58 love mountain cab. Howell Mountain and Spring Mountain are my favorite
2015 Hanaiali’i Merlot with nothing so far. Maybe later. Or not.
@davirom wow, I’ve never heard anyone comment about that Merlot. I’ve got 2 remaining. Felt it’s gotten better over the years. That, or my buds are changing
@ttboy23 I did not intend to confuse. By “with nothing” I meant “no food”. I did find it a little thin in mid palate. Maybe it’s going to sleep? This was my last bottle of it.
2007 Ridge Lytton Springs with pan seared bison ribeyes
2011 Twisted Oak Syrah
2005 WineSmith Faux Chablis with Greek style baked cod and roasted vegetable orzo. Delicious!
Was looking for a bottle to enjoy tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done, @winesmith – glad I’ve got a number of bottles to enjoy into the future!
@Mark_L Thanks, Mark. It’s at a really good stage in its development. BTW, I’m putting together a series of webinars. Stay tuned for an announcement of the program.
@winesmith I checked yesterday and found that I still have 9 bottles of the Aspects in the cellar.
2003 Turley Charbono, Tofanelli Vineyard
2012 Parallel Cab Sauv
Bulleit Bourbon, neat. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
@karenhynes Oh my. And you can still spell “Bulleit”. Brava!
@InFrom
Yes, and I even prevented autocorrect from changing it to “bullet”. It was a proud, proud moment.
(My last) 2010 Wellington Cab HD… with Flannery Hanger steak. This was one of those ‘ah ha’ wine moments when I first tried these back in the day. A great experience, but painful for the wallet! Thank you, Peter Wellington, wherever you may be.
Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir Heritage No. 9 Durant Vineyard
Now that I know I have them
@rjquillin
Wow I haven’t opened any of my heritage’s how is it?
@ScottW58 Tart, light body, minimal barrel influence and young.
I think I’ll like it, but want a day-2, 3 opinion first.
@rjquillin You’re drinking a 2018 wine already?!
@klezman 2017
Yeah, still…
It was on the top of the stack.
@ScottW58 @klezman
Well, seven days into this, in the fridge, no Ar, and with a couple hours in the glass I’ll have to say this has improved nicely. Tartness no longer overwhelms; abundant sour/tart/bright cherry, nice tannins, lengthy finish. Just put this one away for a few years.
WineSmith Petit Manseng
@karenhynes great minds think alike. After a bombay and tonic.
@danandlisa
I forgot to finish my glass before I brushed my teeth. Warning: does NOT pair well with Crest!
@karenhynes No it does not. Sleep well.
@tercerowines Cuvee Loco 2010
Yum, of course. Glad I’ve got some of the 2012 hanging out with Larry in the tasting room!
@klezman love it! Watch for a.special.offer on my 11 and 12 Loco soon - not here though
@tercerowines killing us with the great offers! I guess if you have your way, we’ll all have several cases waiting for pickup.
Also, this went very well with lamb leftover from the seder.
@klezman @tercerowines hi larry sent you an email earlier regarding my vio order.
Sorry for the hijack!
@tercerowines - special.offer on 11 and 12 Loco - where and when? Do tell…please
@ctmariner if interested, please email me at larry@tercerowines.com. Cheers!
@klezman @losthighwayz Done - and know you received those vios yesterday, right? Cheers
2007 Black Cat CS (Napa)
2013 Gård Vintners Syrah Grand Klasse Lawrence Vineyards
2018 Clos Beylesse Cotes de Provence Rosé
2013 Wellington Meeks Zin with a good ‘ol southern meal. Homemade Mac n cheese with ham, Collard greens, and cornbread.
@pseudogourmet98 That’s the opposite of a Passover-friendly meal
(aka something similar to what we’ll eat Thursday night when the holiday ends)
2009 Château de Sours Crémant de Bordeaux Reserve de Sours Sparkling Rosé Brut
molarchae didn’t feel like red, so we’re having this with smoked beef ribs.
2001 York Creek Vineyards Merlot
2016 Siduri Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
2018 Involuntary Commitment Cabernet Sauvignon
leftovers get what they deserve
Anniversario 62, 2015 primitivo di Manduria
I’ve had this before, and it’s big and fruity, great mouth-feel and smooth. However, even though SWMBO loves it, it’s just not quite as satisfying this time around.
2014 Pedroncelli Rosé
2017 Iron Horse Vineyards UnOaked Chardonnay – received it earlier this week, and with boiled shrimp and garlic lemon butter it was delicious.
Last night, 2008 Virage Vineyards Red Bordeaux Blend
Tonight, 2013 Twisted Oak The Spaniard
2018 Pedroncelli Friends White. Good stuff!
2006 York Creek Merlot
2016 Colome Torrontes
J Dusi 2018 Rose.
2013 Knot Wines Halyard Brut
seemed to suffice with some shabu-shabu
2015 Vino Noceto Sangiovese
2009 J Dusi Carignane. Surprisingly balanced and delicious.
Gruet Sauvage earlier in the afternoon. Crisp and tasty as always. Finished the evening (and the bottle), as my husband made me a French 75. My favorite cocktail.
@pseudogourmet98 what is a French 75?
@mommadeb
Gin, simple syrup (or Cointreau), lemon juice, and sparkling wine. There is also a version made with brandy instead of gin, but I don’t like that one. I first had the version made with Cointreau at a craft cocktail bar in Vegas about 5 years ago, and that is my favorite.
2006 Tofanelli Family Zinfandel Estate - 15.9%!!! But it’s actually drinking pretty well thankfully.
2009 Eagles Trace Cabernet Sauvignon
2011 Wellington Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Mohrhardt Ridge
2010 Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zin
2015 Twisted Oak Tempranillo
@davirom
Same here
2004 Nicholas Cole Reserve. Drink up if you have any.
@jmdavidson1
I think I finished all of those…
2018 Maliviore Gamay Noir, VQA Niagara Peninsula
2011 Bonny Doon Vineyard Old Telegram
@rjquillin i’m a huge fan of Old Telegram. My happiest day at Grocery Outlet was finding some clearance bottles.
Last night we drank half a bottle of Cuttings by Prisoner, and it was fabulous. One of those Caymusesque fruit bomb low acid wines that I do like. Interestingly, I corked it and put it on the counter for tonight, and it wasn’t nearly so good. Yes, it was a good cab, but not the same style as last night, and not extraordinary in any way. I suspect that it will not age well in the cellar, and perhaps all of those I like in that style won’t either.
@FritzCat
I believe you suppose correctly
2016 Temporal Vintners Tempranillo. Washington.
Tonight’s bottle.
@radiolysis Do we want it?
@klezman once the kid goes to bed, I’ll have some notes to post. I did my best on blind tasting to keep the suspense, so we’ll see how they come together.
@radiolysis
/giphy tick-tock-tick-tock
2014 Woot Cellars LARGE BOLD TEXT, as with most Pedroncelli time has been good to this.
2016 Turley Zinfandel Steacy Ranch, Lodi
I don’t care if it’s 15.2%, this is freaking delicious. Somehow it comes across as very light and balanced. Go figure.
@klezman Clearly cabin fever and the kidz are getting to you.
2008 Snowden CS Rsv
2018 Pedroncelli “Family Reserve” Unoaked Chardonnay
@davirom how was it?
@losthighwayz On the light side, food friendly, hints of peach. Better the 2nd day, maybe because it was paired with a spicier entree.
2013 Domaine Collotte Marsannay Vieilles Vignes
A solid wine from a Garagiste mystery case, especially at an (adjusted) $12.
2016 Pedroncelli Cabernet Franc Barrel Select
went well with some Flannery tails and what’s left of some black winter truffle.
Another CT fail from the March '19 Pedroncelli '16 mixed offer I didn’t know I had. sigh…
10% of the cellar, in bottles, to any willing to catalog it all.
@rjquillin I suspect that would work out to about $3 per hour
@rjquillin It was fun to go through my 300 bottles, but that seems unlikely to scale. Not to mention i wouldn’t have room for the 10% vig!
@rjquillin

2016 Scott Harvey Barbera Mountain Selection
2016 Navarro Vineyards Muscat Estate Bottled Dry
Damn this is good. Very much in line with the wines we tasted in Alsace.
@klezman we love that bottle!
@CorTot first one for us. It’s fantastic. Blind you’d never know this wasn’t from Alsace.
2010 Fall Line Winery Bordeaux Blend Red Willow Vineyard
2012 Scott Harvey Syrah Mountain Selection
2018 Cambria Estate Viognier
2016 Halcon Syrah
2014 Once & Future Bedrock Zin
Flannery pork rib cap (perfect Shabbat pork?)
Virage Rose (man this was a great buy) and Casemates QPR
@pjmartin We had another great Casemates buy tonight – the 2017 J. Dusi Pinot Grigio. That was the last of the case. My friends snapped up a bunch of those bottles.
2016 Metz Road Pinot Noir
With PB&J. Don’t judge me.
@karenhynes Struggling with lack of access to that eatery, and the posters?
@rjquillin
Nah. I’ve made a point of frequenting my favorite local place at least weekly through the pandemic shutdown…just not allowed inside (other than about 2 weeks ago when a mishap. with my order resulted in an invitation inside…and several shots of bourbon over she couple of hours ) . I actually do have a pic of Mr. April but you know how much trouble of have posting from my phone.
@karenhynes
PB&J ? I applaud you as long as you had some salty chips too
@ScottW58
Oooh! No chips, but maybe I’ll make some popcorn. I just poured the remainder if the bottle in my glass.
Last night: 2014 Patricia Green Cellars “Berserkers’ Cuvee”
Tonight: 2018 Pedroncelli Rosé.
@radiolysis
Just got the PG Spring newsletter and release offers/futures today!
@radiolysis @rjquillin Have you ever been to her barrel tastings? It is fun. Met her before she died. Still miss her.
@danandlisa @radiolysis
Not I.
SoCal living makes taking advantage of some of those perks just not an easy item to accomplish.
@danandlisa @rjquillin Nope. But i do love talking to winemakers.
1995 Château Fontesteau
Flannery Hanger steaks
2003 York Creek Vineyards Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
2016 Lioco Indica Rosé
Made fresh pasta “with” the toddler along with a fresh tomato sauce. The escapade was less fraught than I thought it might be
@klezman
Lioco makes some nice wines!
@klezman my daughter helped me roast marshmallows until the flames (from the gas BBQ) got too close to her fingers. She’s a great baker but is scared of actual fire.
@radiolysis I’m mostly working on the notion that the “help” shouldn’t add too much time or frustration to the endeavour. I had to slow him down so he didn’t stir the onions right out of the pan and onto the floor.
2008 Virage Vineyards Bordeaux Blend
2004 Laura Zahtila Cabernet, Napa Valley
Nice nose, good Napa Cab.
Malbec from its birthplace: 2014 Domaine de Cause Cahors La Lande Cavagnac
2006 Delectus Cabernet Sauvignon Mutti’s Pride
2017 Schafer-Frohlich Riesling trocken
2008 Trione Chardonnay River Road Ranch
No idea where this came from, but I rather wish I had more.
@rjquillin
Never met a Trione I didn’t like!!
@karenhynes first one, that I know of, for me.
2015 Franny Beck Pinot Noir
My first bottle from them after Scott kept telling me how good they were. Yup, good stuff here.
@klezman Opened one of those tonight. So good.
2010 Cabot Syrah with some Picanha and Hangers(1st time sous vide-r) for one of my sons’s 10th birthday; next week is a 2012 for the 8 year old. When mom wasn’t looking, I gave good ol ‘rusty’ a sip, he said “kinda sour”.
@TechnoViking Wow, very nice of you to treat the 10 year old to Flannery! (Assuming…)
@klezman haha, figured why not… he ate so much along with the rest of the kiddos all claiming “it’s the best steak we have ever eaten”. Yes my children, you all are soo so spoiled.
2013 Scherrer Winery “Huntsman Red”
2012 Venge Scount’s Honor, Zin Blend
92 on Cellartracker. I agree…very good.
I have 1 more, and one of their Cabs.
@FritzCat
I have several of those. Are they ready to drink now? I was thinking of holding for a while longer.
@pseudogourmet98 Try one. I think 2012 is well aged for a zin blend, and it is delicious right now. However, it did seem to have enough of a “rough edge”…(unresolved tannins?) that I think it will last a while longer. I’m going to drink mine.
2015 Leoness Cellars Mourvedre, Temecula
I quite enjoyed this at our tasting last year, and still do. Turns out at least a few wines from Temecula have proper acidity!
2016 Pedroncelli Sonoma Classico Glad that we have more coming @chipgreen Went well with homemade pasta after another long skeleton crew day. Another great bottle from Pedroncelli.
2016 Fogline Vineyards Zinfandel Rocky Ridge Vineyard
2016 Domaine le Pech D’Andre Caracole d’Aramon
2015 DV8 Cellars Syrah Monaco
