2016 DRM Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Tasting Notes
This magnificent 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is a superb blend of three vineyards creating a quality wine with a bold, rich Bordeaux style. Layers of ripe currant and cherry engulf the palate, to prepare for a mighty and tannic finish. The 2016 DRM has a light cedar box and vanilla aromas. In the mouth, it’s peppery with black cherries and cocoa on the palate with a lingering finish. This is a more reserved style of Napa cab and people who love Bordeaux will appreciate this wine. This inaugural Cabernet is plush and extremely soft to the finish.

With a legacy that developed Opus One into a world-renowned icon, winemaker Daniel Manies has ventured out on his own to develop his own signature label of elegant wines.
Utilizing his classically trained authentic French Bordeaux winemaking techniques, in combination with his unique and creative approach to winemaking, Daniel has developed wines with characteristics that will amaze and delight the most discerning of tastes. With his incomparable approach to quality, these premier wines will tantalize the senses and transport you to the vineyards of Bordeaux, France with every sip.
About the Winemaker
With ancestral roots originating in France, Daniel Manies’ forefathers made their way to America in 1874. From a long history of agriculture and French heritage, Daniel has come to know that winemaking is in his blood. As a very young boy, Daniel’s family settled in Napa Valley in the early 1960s. Through a lifetime of hard work, Daniel has achieved many great goals. Beginning his career in the wine industry, earning his credentials on the stomping grounds of winery greats such as Beringer, Mondavi, and Christian Brothers, all while attending college courses, has positioned him as a valuable member of the power team that put Napa Valley on the map as the world-renowned wine region it is today.
Daniel Ray Manies (DRM) has an extraordinary winemaking resume. After 10 years working in the cellars at Robert Mondavi working alongside Tim Mondavi, in 1991 he became the first Master Cellarman for Opus One, hands-on at the start of the world-renowned iconic wine. A decade later, he took his skills to Bordeaux’s world-famous Baron Philippe de Rothschild, one of Opus One’s parent wineries, and further enriched his winemaking knowledge.
After his experience in Bordeaux, Daniel returned to Napa, first launching Chateau Manzanita Winery and finally DRM Winery, the culmination of 40 years of winemaking experience in two of the world’s premier wine regions– Napa and Bordeaux. He has devoted his entire life to the pursuit of making great wines, and his passion and sincere love for the work eventually led him to follow his intuition and create his own signature wines.

@TimW yes i’ve had a lot of drm wines and they’re all 7.5-10s on my palette. at this price point they’re real bargains for the vineyards and varietals that are included
Anyone get the DRM offer from the end of last year? I am very tempted but saw a comment from someone about the last offer than has me hesitating to pull the trigger.
@pseudogourmet98 yup! That’s the one I’m talking about. So far only one post over there about someone’s experience, and it was negative. Looking for some addition feedback before I pull the trigger
@dak52 I also got these in December, and have been happy with the ones I’ve opened so far, which did include a Syrah. I’ve no notes, I’m afraid, except that I think for me the Zinfandel is the stand out favorite. I think I’m in for more today.

Opened the 2016 Syrah. I knew there was going to be a problem when noticed the cork was drenched and leakage was evident. Tasted like paint thinner. Wondering if these were stored properly. Bummed and a bit upset at the same time.
@dak52 sorry, I found it. Did I quick scan previously and didn’t see anything. For what it’s worth, I had no issues. Wife and I both loved these wines and will be grabbing a case this time.
Incidentally, if you find a bad anything in your shipment (other than “I don’t like it”), contact casemates. I received a bottle that was slightly uncorked and they replaced
SWMBO and I ratted the 2016 Cab in December and we both really enjoyed it so bought the case. The 2016 Zin is really nice. We’ve opened one of the Syrahs and it was a little funky and needed a day to mellow out, no critical tasting, but not our favorite of the lot. It could have just been an off bottle though. Here’s my previous notes FWIW:
Opened a bottle of the Zin from the December offering and it is wonderful!! Ordered a case even though I still have half of the other offering left. This is a steal.

well positive rats on ‘16 cab and zin. Sounds like maybe lost just got a bad bottle of syrah??
@dak52 replied on that thread
@dak52 @pseudogourmet98 I got the december offer and so far everyone has been delicious. Thinking about more.

What comment was that?
@chrisjj625 see the link above, but they mentioned issues with the Syrah

@chrisjj625 nice! Just wanted confirmation that it was an isolated issue. These look really good and I think I will jump on it
@chrisjj625 @dak52 @stinks off bottle rest were ok. I also added my thoughts on the wines in that thread in case anyone cares to read them
@chrisjj625 @dak52 @stinks sounds like a bad bottle. No problems with the Syrah for me

Bought previous launches here and had no issues with the Syrah
In for a case!
Was waiting for a solid mixed reds offering. In for a case in NW Columbus OH; could be persuaded to peel off four or maybe split if anyone interested.
