“Remix” is a barrel selection blend crafted from our favorite barrels in each lot. This wine is made with incredible intention and attention to detail. The idea of adding this wine to our portfolio came about in 2015. The quality of fruit in that vintage was high and gave us a lot of inspiration to be playful and to try some new blending concepts. We lovingly called our first go round with this wine “Mixtape”. Just like a mix tape is a compilation of favorite songs from varying musical genres, the blend was bringing together a mix of different varietals, with each one adding unique characteristics and layers to the final wine. As we continue to learn from prior vintages and blending sessions, we decided to branch out with this wine and now call it “Remix”. The 2021 Vintage is impossibly dark and supremely complex, and concentrated. The final blend is nearly equal parts each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah. In additional steps to make this blend extra special, we aged this wine in 20% New French Oak for 21 months and held it back in the bottle for an additional 6 months before release. This wine will improve with time in the bottle. If you plan on drinking soon, try giving it a few hours of extra oxygen in a decanter to make this wine sing!

Tasting Notes
Our vineyard site for our E11even Petite Sirah is located within the Los Olivos District AVA. It shares a common boundary with Ballard Canyon AVA on the west side and a boundary with the Happy Canyon AVA on the east side, distinguished by its uniform topography, geology, and soil type. Petite Sirah is a very thick-skinned grape, with intense depth of color and full tannic structure. We ferment in large, open-top tanks for a gentler, softer level of extraction. After fermentation is finished, we leave the wines on skins for another week, which allows the tannins to soften and integrate. We then transfer the wine to barrels for 20+ months of aging in 25% New French oak. We then allow the wine to slowly develop in the bottle for nearly a year before finally releasing it. The 2021 Petite Sirah explodes with aromas of fresh blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, vanilla, and lavender. On the palate, you will taste mouthwatering tart summer berries, espresso, and mocha wrapped in dense velvety tannins. Don’t be afraid to hide this bottle from yourself for a year or two, as it has aging potential for 10 years and beyond!
This is a very personal project for me. You see, I adore music about as much as I love wine. I am also nostalgic for an era when music did not come on a chip, an era before auto-tune, before hi-def, when scratches and skips were a sign of a beloved album played over and over again. Informed by this all-consuming passion, my E11even label is inspired by a vintage concert ticket that I found.
Perhaps the most important thing that I really want you all to understand about our E11even Wines is that they are NOT some kind of second label, or declassified Andrew Murray wines. I think of our E11even wines as an amazing opportunity to show off and share the bounty of our diverse vineyard sites. These are our first wines, not copies or imitations of anything else. These wines are informed by my 30 years of winegrowing in Los Olivos and represent the VERY best barrels that we craft each year.
Some may ask, “Why E11even?” We think we are one better than “10”, always pushing the envelope in order to grow and craft the best wine possible. While others may settle to be a “10”, we strive to be better, we yearn to be an “11”! Oh, and Yes, the name is also inspired by one of my favorite movies, “Spinal Tap”.

It’s always fun to see a bottle headed your way - thanks to Alice and the team for including me on this one.
I got the PS and the bottle and cork looked good.
The wine is very, very dark. The aroma is pretty dark as well.
Their website says, “On the palate, you will taste mouthwatering tart summer berries, espresso and mocha wrapped in dense velvety tannins.” I can’t disagree with that. It’s definitely a wine in what I consider to be the “New World style” that aims for the combination of tart and dry. Some friends tasted with me and “plum” was the most common flavor description after “tart.”
Flavor stayed the same over the course of a couple of hours with the bottle open. Maybe the initial acidity dropped just a little bit but overall the wine held up to the exposure.
If that (what I described as) New World combo of very tart and very dry is what you’re after, I think you’ll be pleased with this bottle.

Same 2 bottle mix in February on RWS:
The 2021 Andrew Murray E11even Petite Sirah pours wonderfully dark and inky in the glass. It presents an amazing array of attractive aromas like dark berry fruit, lots of spice, licorice, leather, some lovely floral notes, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. This one has it all and manages to combine them quite harmoniously.
Wow! This tastes big, rich and tannic yet is still very drinkable. As the winery notes this has an aging potential of 10+ years and they are absolutely right. Fantastic now, it will be very interesting to see how it tastes every couple of years for the next decade or so. (It’s one of our favorite experiments - opening the same wine every year or every 2 years just to see how it has developed.)
It features all those same flavors from the nose wrapped up in smooth yet chewy mouthfeel. And while it’s fantastic right at pop and pour, it’s even better after a couple hours of air. (Patience is greatly rewarded.)
It ends dry, extremely long, dark, juicy, grippy and mouth-wateringly good and was similar on day 2. This is over the top delicious!
The 2021 Andrew Murray E11even Remix Red Blend begins with quite a pleasing and attractive aroma of ripe dark fruit, well integrated spice, vanilla and lots of other barrel room like notes. It’s a great start and as the winery notes, giving this wine some time to breathe brings out even more nuances.
Taking a sip reveals a smooth, tasty wine with similar flavors to the nose and lots of ripe dark fruit in the mouth. It definitely needs some air to fully open up but once it does it is quite nice. This is a lovely red blend. It ends dry and quite long with tons of lasting juicy fruit and spice on the very satisfying finish. It was even slightly better on day 2.
Edit…the RWS notes seem to be from November '24 when these two bottles were part of a 3 bottle mix.
2 bottle mix, no, 4 bottle mix, no 2 bottle mix, no no 3 bottle mix, nooo today is a 2 bottle mix
Background: My wife and I are Rhone rangers when it comes to Reds. Grenaches, Syrah, and indeed Mourvedre alone or any combination. Even secondary “rhones” like Cinsault and Petit Sirah are up our alley. We historically have not enjoyed Bordeaux blends, though we’ve appreciated a few lately. Tasted blind, my wife has liked every Grenache and quality Syrah I’ve passed her way, from Europe or California. When I’ve snuck in Bordeaux varietals, even very good ones, she’s no go. Recently she’s allowed that some Malbec or Merlot-heavy Meritages were okay.
This wine is 75% varietals that have never worked for my wife, and not so much for me either. So I did not have high hopes for this wine’s reception. Saturday night we started on this after a half-hour sitting in the glass. I greatly enjoyed the first sip, then eyed my wife for the moment of truth. “Mmmm, nice. Lighter than it looks. Very good. Grenache?” “Nope.” “Definitely Syrah in there.” “No,” then I told her the varietals ending with Petit Sirah. She was surprised until the end, “So there is some Sirah,” she said. “No, remember, Petit Sirah is totally different.” “That’s right,” she says, “but don’t we also like that one?” “Yes we do.” We continued to be surprised how much we enjoyed this 75% Meritage.
The nose is wonderful, red fruit like on the palette. Nice finish, which goes on for a bit. Nothing off-putting. I think if would go with a lot of things and please pretty much everyone. Went great with Bulgogi.
It’s lighter than it looks; PV and PS certainly make it inky. And from that heavy beautiful bottle, with those varietals. It’s got heavy flavor, but not heavy body.
Taste #2, After 25 hours sitting in bottle room temperature, 3/4 full:
Before eating, and then again with bulgogi, was great. Great nose. My wife thought it tasted the same as the day before, very enjoyable. I thought maybe it had fallen off just a little but not sure; nor really improved. Still very enjoyable.
Taste #3, After 49 hours sitting in a bottle room temperature:
It still worked. So by my sitting-on-the-counter-multi-day-comparison test, this wine is very, very flexible on when to drink. Fantastic in the glass after just a few minutes, but should still be good in 8+ years. My guess is that it won’t be a LOT better in 8 years, mainly because it’s so good right now.
Opening this wine anywhere will be a success. If you and 7 friends each brought a bottle of wine who’s normal price was around $30, and then sampled all 8 blind, and each wrote down their top 3 wines, and every wine gets a point for each vote, this wine will probably win. It would be in most everybody’s top 3. Wine newbies will love it, and your wineaus will also appreciate it.
If you are hosting an event, this is your wine. It will disappear quickly. Also it’s a very nice elegant heavy bottle, giving a great impression.
I am on my first actually successful SIWBM, and will sadly continue that with this offer. We have reduced our wine-consumption frequency; we’re no wine currently for Lent and temporary health reason; and due to and UC Bankruptcy sale and WineDavid doing his thing for years now, I have wine piled high and deep. Kind of embarrassing. Must . . . Not buy … . Wine.
You know, this is really the perfect bottle to bring to someone’s house that you’re visiting, both the wine and the beautiful bottle. Yikes, I’m talking myself into getting this. Help me.
