In the early 60’s my grandfather was a fan and took my brothers and me to a couple of matches. The only wrestler I remember was Haystack Calhoun. What a spectacle!
@FritzCat I remember Haystacks (with a horseshoe on a chain around his neck). Also that hated (especially during the 60s Cold War) Russian tag team pair (can’t remember their name – maybe “<something> Brothers”) who had the notorious “backbreaker” takedown.
Kids were, for some reason, as was my grandmother (?)
Big assed dudes, throwing things around, and looking intimidating. Damned sure not guys you’d want to get close enough to get a hold of you.
Some of the female ones look a bit scary too, but probably worth the cost of getting closer to.
Hey, it’s like Benny Hill wrote a soap opera then they put it on steroids. Even included the Diva Pillow Fights.
Freakin’ hilarious!

@FritzCat I remember him too!
Big guy, in bib overalls, the nemesis of pine furniture everywhere. One ‘sit down’, and he’d severely crack your bargain chairs like toothpicks.
The Russians, I remember, but not the name. I think there was some Sheik dude running around, too.
Saturday afternoons, this, old movies, or roller derby. No wonder I always went out.
SWMBO likes Sumo, that count?
@rjquillin no, sumo is actually a sport. Pro wrestling is theater. Usually bad theater, but sometimes sufficiently camp to amuse.
