Yes, many times, once I’m sure by a new manager of Office Max, my wife and I both had a card comprised within a half hour, we traced it back to the Office Max as the only place that we had both been at two weeks before, went over there to complain to the manager, realized later, that by his actions, he was the guilty one.
In Early 2020 after Covid hit, I had another card comprised, this time it was a card I hadn’t used for over eight months, (if ever) until I signed up for a Redbox movie rental, by this time I had all my cards give me notification on my cell when ever they were used. Well, after signing up at the Redbox site, a few days later about 12am, my cell notifies me I just bought something in Boston, I shut the card down, went into bank next morning, they checked the log, they had tried to buy something 8 times different parts of country by then.
Yes, I’m quite sure it was a restaurant when we were in Australia. We were tipped off when a subscription to “Big And Naturals”.com showed up on the bill.
Twice in the late 1980s I was contacted by GMAC and somebody else (Citibank?) to ask if I’d changed my address and then ordered “access checks.” In neither case had I done so and in both cases, even tho the CC company knew about the fraud 2-3 days before the checks were cashed, they were unable to stop the miscreants from walking away with the money. The GMAC thing was for $5300 and the other one was for about $3K.
After the second theft, I had them put a fraud alert (or block or some such) on my credit reports and CC accounts. This occasionally caused some minor hassles tho only for the sales clerks that wanted to make a buck by getting me to sign up for store CCs.
Fortunately, that was way back when CC companies still were willing to eat the cost of their mistakes, unlike today, where they mostly refuse to do so and blame the victim for the crime. Regardless, it caused me no major problems and no out off pocket expenses.
The later Home Depot and TJ Maxx breaches were actually more of a hassle for me, even tho (to my knowledge) nothing was actually stolen. The PITA was due to having to update automatic payments using those CC. Now, I use one set of CC for automatic payments and carry another set in my wallet.
Yes, for some multiple of “several times.”
I’ve had a few cards compromised over the years but surprisingly few.
When my business travel was at its peak, my card would be compromised annually.

Once, from Wine Library. No apology or make up. Last purchase from them.
