Quite the scheme
Wow. The amount of effort put in for this kind of racket must have been amazing. You’d think that importing bulk wine to Champagne would have been noticed, or having Champagne labels applied elsewhere and then exporting the bottles around would have been a challenge.
The remarkable thing is that apparently some consumers have so little experience with the taste of Champagne that they can be fooled by carbonated plonk.
There are remarkably good methode champenoise sparkling wine made from the traditional grapes made in many parts of the world. Many consumers might well be hard put to tell them from Champagne.
But this fraud was not that: cheapest plonk with carbonation added…not even Charmat process!
I say drown the perp in a 10,000 gallon tank of his dreck!
