My aunt used to send us kids out to pick wild raspberries in Wisconsin, in the hot summer sun and the low areas where the berries grew were swarming with mosquitoes, but it would still take all afternoon because we were eating as much as we were putting in our pails because they were sooooooooooooo goood!
The fresh-picked wild ones are always best. As kids in the foothills of the Sierra’s we ate manzanita berries. Later, on the Olympic peninsula I was chowing down on salmon berries, when a Ranger stopped by and let me know that there was a poisonous berry in the area that looked just like the ones I was eating.
