Muddled raspberry, white pepper, savory herbs, dried strawberry, and sweet tobacco. Swirling brings up sweetness and spice with lots of red fruits, watermelon, and even a light plum skin. The palate is bright and delicate with pressed red fruits, raspberry tea, and fine ethereal tannins.
Production notes
We incorporated more Syrah and Grenache in this vintage to provide a foundation for the Mourvedre that got hit with an early freeze this vintage at our Thunderstone vineyard and resulted in lower alcohol content. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Winemaking
The 2019 vintage was a unique one that ended with an early freeze and a resulting lower alcohol content in the Mourvèdre from the Thunderstone vineyard that sits at a lower elevation on the Royal Slope. We incorporated more Syrah and Grenache in the 2019 wine to provide more foundation in the wine with the Grenache also coming from the Thunderstone vineyard and the Syrah coming from the Scarline vineyard. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
About the Name
Pronounced vah-SEER. The poet Kvasir was the wisest of all men in Norse mythology and is said to have been created from fermented berry juice. He was tragically slain and his essence mixed with honey to become the “Mead of Poetry,” which fills the drinker with wisdom and poetic prowess. May our estate-grown Mourvèdre blend imbue you with the same gifts. Skål!
This wine is sustainably produced vegan and glyphosate free.

2019 Gård Reverence Red Blend
92 points ~ Owen Bargreen
Tasting Notes
Incredibly precise notes of singed black tea, raspberry, pomegranate, spring flowers, and dried strawberry. Swirling intensifies the red fruits and adds plums and currants. The palate has volume and density and is slightly more intense than the color suggests. The finish resonates with red fruits, spice, a hint of crème brulee, and a consistent streak of loamy minerals and salinity.
Winemaking
All of the Grenache was fermented in concrete while the Syrah was fermented in stainless steel. A small amount of the whole cluster was used (5-10%) and the wine was aged in a combination of 500L and 600L barrels of which only 25% was new. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
About the Name
Reverence was originally named to pay homage to our fan-favorite Vaucluse, as the wines featured the same varietals from the same vineyard sources, and Reverence at the time was field blended into a new wine unto itself. Now Reverence has a life of its own, less connected by way of varietals to the Vaucluse, but a significant component to our collection of Rhone-inspired wines.

The Vineyard
Gård Vintners is 100% estate grown sustainably at Lawrence Vineyards, featuring eight distinct vineyard sites in the Royal Slope AVA. With elevations that range from 930 feet to 1,675 feet and primarily a south-facing slope, Lawrence Vineyards provides a great framework for grape production, while the diversity of each of the locations delivers a high level of complexity to Gård wines. We also farm vineyards on the Wahluke Slope and Conner Lee in the Columbia Valley. Lawrence Vineyards is certified sustainable by Vinewise.org.
Gård, meaning “farm” in many Scandinavian languages, is a tribute to our family’s Scandinavian heritage and farming tradition.
Our mission at Gård is to capture and bottle the unique characteristics of the land we farm. We humbly craft value-driven, award-winning wines from our sustainable estate vineyards to create lasting memories for our customers. Gård Vintners is dedicated to crafting world-class wines from its sustainably-farmed estate vineyard on the Royal Slope of Washington’s Columbia Valley AVA. We produce 6,000 cases a year for our wine club, three tasting rooms, and select distribution in the northwest and across the country.
Founded in 2006, Gård Vintners is a family-owned and operated estate winery in the heart of Washington’s Columbia Valley AVA, with vineyards on the Royal Slope, wine production in Walla Walla, and tasting rooms in Woodinville, Walla Walla, and Ellensburg.
The winery was founded by Josh and Lisa Lawrence, along with Josh’s dad John Lawrence and uncle Sandy Lawrence, who had farmed the Royal Slope for more than 40 years. The winery and estate vineyard is now owned and operated by Josh and his wife, Lisa, who oversees sales and marketing, while Josh oversees the vineyard and other farm and orchard operations.
In 2011 Aryn Morell joined the team as a winemaker, and winemaking is now managed at M&L Production in Walla Walla, a partnership between Morell and the Lawrences.

Thank you, thank you Alice for selecting me as your LabRat! Was so delighted to share both the GARD Kvasir and Reverence red wines with our neighbors! Both incredible wines that are drinkable now or can sit for the next few years.
First up was the Kvasir 2019, an intriguing wine with a wonderfully unique flavor profile. With the makeup of Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Syrah, I think it was our favorite of the two. Looked like a pinot noir once we poured. We let it sit for a bit and the smell was of berry and plum. Along with fruit notes, we were tasting hints of graphite and pepper that add dimension to its taste and finding it light in tannins. Kvasir maintains a smooth texture that makes it easy to drink. We paired it with our charcuterie and was wonderful. This is perfect for everyone whether liking a light red wine or wanting to exploring new and interesting flavor combinations. If you’re looking for a light but flavorful wine, Kvasir is definitely worth giving a try. Overall, this is a wine that is sure to appeal to all.
Second up, the Reverence 2019 is an excellent wine made from a blend of Grenache and Syrah grapes. When poured, it was more ruby in color. By smell, we noticed hints of berries, pomegranate with a smoky aroma. After letting it sit for a bit, it reminded us a bit of a Zinfandel. The most notable flavors in this wine is the presence of plum and currents. These flavors are not overpowering, but they are strong enough to leave an impression on the palate. The plum flavor adds a subtle sweetness that balances the wine’s dryness, while the currents provide a pleasant tartness that brings an extra dimension to the flavor profile. We paired with a deep dish Chicago style pizza and was wonderful. We found this as a medium body and the tannins are well-balanced.
Both wines were a big hit and were enjoyed by all. These red blends are unique flavor profiles that sets it apart from other wines, and it is perfect to drink now. This is a must try!! Enjoy!
It’s always a pleasure to receive a care package from Alice, especially when you’ve been snowbound for a couple of weeks…
A brown dog-sled came by and the musher dropped off a bottle of 2019 Gård Kvasir, featuring a grape - Mourvedre - that I am unfamiliar with in general, and especially as a main (74%) ingredient. I let it sit for a couple of days in my cellar in the mid 50s, then popped and poured.
Color: I’m partially color blind, but it was dark and red. Slow developing legs.
Nose: Faint blueberry or plum, slight scent of violet and pepper.
Taste: Brisk and tart, well controlled tannins tickling the sides of my tongue. Dark fruit forward, with just a hint of organic solvent - in a good way. Toasted herbs ever lurking in the background. Pleasantly acidic. Blackberries seemed to rise as the bottle level dropped.
Dinner was left over prime rib which I think was a bit trodden on by the wine - I’d like to try it with something heartier like a beef stew.
But by itself (after dinner), I’m liking it more and more. Will try to save some for Friday; will try to answer any questions. And will probably be in for an order.
We guessed $45 winery price and CM around $20-$25 would make this a good buy.
Color: ruby getting close to bloodish red
Aroma: muted upon opening with alcohol being prominent
Taste: not much fruit maybe some graphite or pencil lead
Tannins: medium grip
Both agreed it’s a well made wine but very tight and may benefit from air
Two hours in decanter: alcohol has mellowed and a bit of red/dark fruit coming through with some all spice notes. Alcohol still present
A darker interpretation of Grenache. I think cab drinkers will enjoy it more than we did. Don’t get me wrong though. It’s a good wine worth $20 or so just not in my wheelhouse
The referenced Owen Bargreen notes (previously Washington Wine Blog)…
92 Points. 2019 Gard Vintners ‘Reverence’ Red Wine- Nearly all Grenache (91%) with a splash of Syrah, this shows off smoked brisket with red cherry starburst candy and smoldering stones on the nose, with bergamot notes. Very fresh and nicely textured, this shows good depth, as this downright delicious Grenache will cellar well for another eight to ten years. Drink 2022-2030
92 Points. 2019 Gard Vintners ‘Kvasir’ Red Wine- The ‘Kvasir’ is a mostly Mourvèdre wine (74%) with the remainder Grenache and Syrah. This comes off very stony and fresh with a soft texture. Bright red fruits collide with smoked pork shoulder and orange zest flavors on the palate. Enjoy now and over the next eight years. Drink 2022-2030. 12/22
Smoked brisket and pork shoulder…what’s not to like?
International Wine Report tasted both:
Reverence, 92 Points. 100% estate-grown fruit from the Royal Slope that comprises a blend of 91% Grenache and 9% Syrah. Lovely typical Grenache notes of ripe red strawberry, bright red cherry, watermelon, and leafy herbs pop from the glass. A stunning color in the glass - bright red ruby with a silver rim - the wine brings medium levels of acidity, silky tannins, and a fresh, rounded mouthfeel. Drink 2022-2030. J Young 6/22
Kvasir, 93 Points. I am loving the Mourvèdre that is coming out of Washington and the Gard 2019 Kvasir is a great example. Checking in at 74% Mourvèdre, 13% Grenache, and 13% Syrah you are greeted with smokey grilled black plum, ground black pepper, smoked brisket, and scorched herbs notes in the glass. Pair it with a grilled steak and watch it come alive. Rounded in the mouth with no rough edges, this one ends tart and meaty on the finish. Drink 2022-2030. J Young 6/22
