Grocery Outlet deals!
2This could be folded into the other deals thread but GO is really a different breed. So much crap with a few (perceived) diamonds in the rough.
This week. Some nice pricing and interesting bottles found at the Duarte store.
Charles Smith 2015 (Vino) pinot grigio $5
Carne Humana 2015 White blend $5
Arbor Bench 2009 Meritage (reflections) $8
If you are a bargain shopper like me, then post what you find!

I think their semi-annual wine sale is really close as well.
@rjquillin 10/31-11/6. The Napa store is somewhat hit-or-miss. I did find a bunch of Rockus Bockus here.
@rjquillin @winejosh I missed it by a day. Just bought a mixed case yesterday. Grrrrrr.
The two GO have terrible selection. My biggest score was a pair of Bonny Doon Old Telegram for $20/each. Maybe I’ll check out during the wine sale.
270 miles to the closest GO from where I live so I guess I will let those diamonds stay in the rough!
Found at GO today Wind Run 2013 Pinot noir SBC $4.99
Grabbed a couple to try.
@CorTot yea, that was a reject for Casemates. found it muted.
@Winedavid49 based on initial impressions flat seems generous.
@CorTot @Winedavid49 That would be an interesting thread: wines that didn’t make the cut for this community.
@CorTot @Winedavid49
Dig that quality control!
@CorTot @klezman same thread…
@chipgreen @Winedavid49 Agreed! however it wont stop me from skimming the bottom.
@chipgreen @CorTot For sure!
Some interesting bottles I’ve found this last week.
Mostly older whites but for the most part by good producers so they should hold up.
2014 Tangent Grenache Blanc Paragon Vineyard Edna Valley $2.99
District 7 by Schied vineyards sauvignon blancc $4.99
2015 EOS Chardonnay Paso Robles $3.99
2015 Lyric by Etude Chardonnay Santa Barbara County $5.99
2015 Liberated Wine Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma County $3.99
2014 Chalone Vineyard Chardonnay Gavilan $3.99
2017 Shannon Ridge Vineyard Dalliance Lake County $5.99
If you live in SF, please ignore this, but GO has a 2002 Raymond Napa Valley Cab Sav for $15 that’s pretty delicious and still has more than a few years in it. 13.8% abv, pH ~3.5 (don’t have my meter, just the strips that indicated between 3.2-3.6, but it reminds me of other wines just below 3.5). I’m in for a case (unless you all beat me to it)
@novium nice find!
@novium Geeze, pick up an extra case if they have one and let me know.
OK, half case will do, storage issues down here.
@rjquillin I bought two cases, but they also had like another 20 out just on the floor
@rjquillin Ron, my local azusa store had multiple cases out as well. I bet your local store has some. And yes it was quite tasty.
@CorTot Just in yesterday, scouting for the 20% off sale that begins next week. No Raymond, but I did see a couple other bottles I need to check out.
Anyone have knowledge of this?
2013 Pope Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve
@rjquillin I’ve seen it but couldn’t take the plunge with no info online and a steep price tag for an outlet bottle.
I picked up the Raymond this week that was posted about earlier.
I also found a 2016 Rockwall Wine co Petite Sirah Contra costa county for $10.
Any of these located in the East Bay?
Went to my local store and the best was JanKris. Ugh.
@radiolysis
I remember JanKris had a red on wine.woot that was one of the more panned wines to ever appear there but I quite liked their Viognier, FWIW.
@chipgreen @radiolysis Jankris is always available at GO. Usually several different bottling for around $5 each.
@chipgreen @CorTot @radiolysis
And usually on the bottom shelf.
At my GO the best deals are typically found in boxes on the floor. The stuff on the shelf doesn’t really move.
Holy cow! My GO finally had an interesting selection! I didn’t buy any yet, mostly because a quick glance on CT didn’t yield much.
2014 Stratton Lummis Cab Sauv Private Reserve, $10
1998 Rubissow-Sargeant “Trompettes” Cab Franc / Merlot, Mt Veeder, $20
2016 Rubissow Cab Sauv, Mt Veeder, $24
2017 Swanson Pinot Grigio, San Benito, $3
2018 LUNA Pinot Grigio, $4
Anything I should get?
@radiolysis
Ummm no ymmv
@radiolysis I’d bite on both the '98 CF/Merlot and the CS; for science.
Worst case, you’re out $44 and don’t go out for dinner.
Which GO?
@rjquillin Point Loma. The '98 seemed my best bet just to see how it was handled.
@radiolysis Well, looks like I will be making a trip to GO. I think I’ve seen the Trompettes before, but not a 1998, which I would have bought immediately
@novium I’ll post a picture of my selections in a bit, but they ran out of the 2016 Rubissow Cab, replaced with the 2015 Rubissow Trompettes ($21). Felt like i was stealing.
@radiolysis I’m a bit sad, I got a bottle of the 98 last night, enjoyed it, went back today, and they were sold out! Boo
@novium dang! Mine had probably a case or two of the 98. Maybe four cases 15. At least this morning…
@radiolysis I’m going to try my luck this weekend in my home town of Napa
@rjquillin I was just at Point Loma and they have '98 and '15 Trompettes, and a mix of '11, '14, and '15 Syrah. No more NV Table Wine. I bought myself the mini-vertical of syrah.
@novium @radiolysis Snagged a bottle yesterday.
Dry crumbly cork, at least mine was. It’s got years on it, and they show, but perhaps it was just the dry cork I got and others will be more lively.
Interested to know how other bottles show.
[edit] much improved on day two.
2014 Jenner PN for $7.99 is solid. Purchase by the case if you see it!
Some wines from my last stop by the duarte store
White oak vineyards 2013 - Might Oak red blend $8
EOS estate 2016 - Zinfandel $6
Clos La Chance 2015 - merlot $6
Browne Family 2014 - chardonnay Heritage $7
Buena Vista 2015 cabernet sonoma county - $13
White Oak 2014 zinfandel - alexander valley - $10
Chateau st. Jean 2013 - Pinot Noir Sonoma County - $7
Vinum Cellars 2016 - Chardonnay - montery - $5
@CorTot What’d you think of the BV?
Not sure I could even identify it as a CS.
Gave the remaining 1/2 bottle to an office mate;
he had the same impression.
We both rather liked the Mighty Oak.
@rjquillin I actually didn’t buy it.
@CorTot @rjquillin i had high hopes for the white oak. Did not like it
Stopped by my local grocery outlet in Azusa CA today and found some stuff
Pavi Sémillon Due Sorelle Vin Santo $6.99
2016 Testa Dura Cabernet Sauvignon sonoma county (rumored to be wellington cellars) $9.99
White oak vineyards 2014 - Might Oak red blend $7.99
2016 Pacific Rim Riesling Wallula Vineyard $4.99
2016 Little Vineyards Band Blend Live $4.99
2014 Wind Gap Wines Chardonnay Sonoma Coast $5.99
2015 Divum Chardonnay Redding Vineyard $5.99
@CorTot If you see any Wind Gap Syrah or Pinot Noir, you can pick a few up for me. They’re excellent.
Looking forward to hearing whether there’s any evidence (e.g. a cork) that confirms Wellington Cellars. I couldn’t find it on the TTB approvals website. Odd.
@CorTot the Point Loma GO has tons of the Band Blend Live. I also spied some more Rubissow-Sargent. Looks like that winery rebranded to be just “Rubissow” and is clearing the decks.
I was with my kid and in a hurry, so i didn’t look as closely as normal.
@CorTot @klezman
Been drinking some
2014 Wind Gap Wines Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
the past few days.
Thoroughly unimpressed at PnP, and it hasn’t gotten any better. Just unappealing grape juice to me.
@klezman I’ll keep an eye out.
I pulled the cork on the testa dura, completely blank…
Today, Nov 5, is the last day of the 20% off sale
Found 2013 Kendric PN, Marin County on Friday for $9.99. Took it to dinner that night and was amazing! Going back for all!
Spotted: 2013 cougar crest Syrah estate reserve for $7.
2013 pavi dolceto $7
Couple of decent finds at my last trip to GO: 1996 York Creek Meritage. Needed about an hour to open up, but it was fantastic and still has a lot of life in it. $13.
2012 Avio Zinfandel, $8. Nice sierra Zin.
@novium Most all the York Creek bottles I’ve gotten were outstanding qpr, and there have been a few…
@rjquillin some of them I’ve had have had a hint of menthol which is very love it or hate it, I think (not a fan personally), but the quality is always so high I always buy it to try when I see it
Grocery outlet has the inspiration vineyards syrah for $8.99 and the 18’ rose for $4.99.
Both are nice wines for the price.
There are also a number for roses in the $4.99 price point that are quite good.
@CorTot
Whenever we visit my sister in law in CA we seem to make at least one stop at a GO. I have always been amazed at the wines we found there. We have nothing like that in FL.
@CorTot Looks like they must have gotten additional stock in.
Don’t forget I’ve got three each for you down here.
@rjquillin didn’t forget, just figured I wouldnt see you for awhile so I bought some for now.
@CorTot With what’s going on, good call.
@CorTot I have been to four GSOs the past few weeks searching for these to no avail!
@CorTot @losthighwayz

Someone say ‘call’?
@losthighwayz Azusa has cases…
@CorTot are they worth the drive?
@CorTot @losthighwayz
How many you gonna get?
One or two bottles?
Not worth it.
Half a case?
The GO price more than pays for your gas.
I quite liked the Syrah, and the Rosé isn’t bad either.
@CorTot @losthighwayz @rjquillin And if you’ve already thought it was worth driving to four different stores…
@klezman @losthighwayz @rjquillin lol. i couldn’t say it…
@CorTot @klezman @rjquillin I stopped at ones close to home or on my way home from work as opposed to purposely driving to Azusa. It is not like I looked up GOs to look. But based on my experience with Inspiration it may warrant a special drive which is why I asked!
I enjoy going to new GO stores that have a better-than-my-local-store selection. Huntington Beach had more '96, '97, and '99 York Creek Meritage. The '99 was in 375mL, so i had to buy some.
I also picked up an appassimento method Dolcetto/Barbera to give a whirl.
Generally, this store was much more well stocked in beer and wine than my regular outlet.
Stopped at my local Azusa GO this afternoon and came out with a case from the fall wine sale. Prices shown are less the 20% off.
2016 Esterlina Chardonnay Napa Valley $10.00
2015 Geyser Peak Cabernet Sauvignon Walking Tree Vineyard Alexander Valley $5.00
2018 Geyser Peak Pinot Grigio California $3.00
2018 Inspiration Vineyards Syrah Palindrome Vineyard Dry Creek Valley $4.00
2018 Outlot Rosé Alexander Valley Rosé Blend $3.00
2017 Rock Wall Wine Co. Zinfandel Harris Kratka Vineyard Alexander Valley $8.00
2017 Suncé Barbera Reserve St. Olof Vineyard Clear Lake $8.00
2019 Suncé Viognier Capay Valley California $5.00
2018 Three Thieves Zinfandel Rosé California $3.00
@CorTot You tried the Suncé Barbera yet?
Just saw it down here for $5.
Totally missed the sale this year…
@rjquillin nope, probably over Xmas break.
Candace liked the Viognier quite a bit.
@CorTot @rjquillin I had the barbera a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it.
The Huntington Beach GO has oodles of '97 York Creek Meritage and a handful of '96 still.
Visited the Azusa Store today and found more Sunce wines as well as Baker Lane
2019 Suncé Zinfandel Rosé $6
2020 Suncé Viognier Capay Valley $6
2017 Suncé Cabernet Sauvignon Pl. Franicevic Sonoma County $15
2018 Suncé Aglianico Heringer Clarksburg $10
2018 Suncé Carignane Sandy Lane Vineyard Contra Costa County $10
2015 Baker Lane Syrah Estate Vineyard Sonoma Coast $15
@CorTot Nice selection!
My two GO stores (beaumont, grand terrace) here in so cal are having 20% off all wine.
Checked out a couple different stores this week
Duarte: Big on Sunce still
2018 Sunce Tannat Clarksburg $13
2017 Sunce Petite Sirah San Fran Bay - $10
2018 Sunce Tempranillo Arroyo Seco - $13
2019 Sunce Pinot Gris Clarksburg $7
2016 Rock Wall Wine Company Tannat $10
2016 Rock Wall Wine Company Baydeaux Blend $10
2018 Rock Wall Wine Company Zin - Harris Kratka Vineyard - $13
Divum Pinot Noir - 2 vineyards Monterey $7
Azusa Store: lots of Kenneth Volk
2012 Kenneth Volk Cabernet Pfeffer San Benito $6
2013 Kenneth Volk Negrette San Benito Calleri Vineyard $6
2012 Kenneth Volk Tempranillo Paso Robles $6
2012 Kenneth Volk Zin Lime Klim Valley Enz vineyard $6
2014 NXNW Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla $15
@CorTot nice. Best the downtown San Diego store had was 2016 NxNW Horse Heaven Hills Riesling, $5.
@CorTot if either of these are any good, could you pick me up a few?
Too bad @winedavid49 isn’t on speaking terms with them.
@rjquillin @Winedavid49 I actually didn’t purchase, I’m stocked up on reds for the time being.
@CorTot San Benito County and Enz Vineyard have not let me down! I bet that Cabernet Pfeffer is from Enz Vineyard, too.
PSA I just read that 2015 Vintage Grahams Port for $34 are popping up at west coast stores! Normally around $90 to $100 iirc. Also a 20 percent off sale right now? If you’re a port fan I would check out some stores!
@ScottW58 Yes, the 20% off sale is active right now.
Went by one on my way home yesterday and saw a Sunce what I think was a late harvest fortified Port style Zin from Foppiano Vineyards for sale.
Will need to look for that Grahams.
@rjquillin Shoot me a text if you see any truly compelling deals.
@ScottW58 thanks for the reminder. I’ll need to stop by this weekend.
@CorTot @ScottW58 @rjquillin anyone find anything good? i went to the Point Loma GO and it was a sea of plonk. I have a few others in SD to try, but i’m not particularly hopeful…
@CorTot @radiolysis @ScottW58
I found the same, or, rather, nothing.
I did pick up a few different bottles from Michel~Schlumberger, but after tasting didn’t go back for more.
Escondido has about two cases of '96 York Creek Meritage ($8). And some RD napa valley cab sauv reserve in '14 and '15 ($20). No mystery port though
@radiolysis RD?
@rjquillin https://rdwinery.com/trade/
@radiolysis Hundred Knot?
@rjquillin https://rdwinery.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/99-Cabernet-Sauvignon2014-Tech-Sheet.pdf that was the 2014. I swear the 2015 was also the “99” bottling but it may have been the Grand Cru. The extraordinarily high MSRP caught my eye.
@radiolysis @rjquillin They call that a tech sheet?! It doesn’t even list the alcohol %. The bottle looks like it might say 14.9%. Looks like that winery totally reset itself after the 2015 vintage.
They still have York Creek? I nearly opened my last 1996 tonight. That’s worth a coupe more finding their way up here…
@klezman i’ll probably be up that way again soon and can see about getting you a few
@radiolysis Might also be moot if @rjquillin still has piles of it at home.
@radiolysis my local store has had some of the RD winery stuff, I never tried any even though the bottles were heavier than normal and price point seemed silly.
A few GO finds yesterday at the SF Van Ness location:
2006 York Creek SV Cab Sauv ($19)
2003 Candale St Emilion Grand Cru (merlot & cab franc ($15)
Both were great. Think the Candale could go a few more years, bit the York Creek is a bit more drink now.
And a recent casemates offering, the Mulderbosch Rose ($5)
I found these at the SF Grocery Outlet. Both quite good!
Subsoil Merlot- Horse Heaven Hill WA
QSS Rare - Portugal
@winecatlady which one?
